cause everyone is basically using the same gear... so what set you apart is the way you think... which leads to your point of view... your creativity... the way you composite...

That's why I love the phrase "making a picture" instead of "taking a picture".

Making a picture takes the effort of thinking and creative process into producing the final picture. icon_idea.gif

Fuuhhh.. After carrying my prime for half a day yesterday, suddenly the 18105 kit feels heavier. Having more than 1 lens made me to plan my shots, cos I'm a bit lazy having
to change lenses. tongue.gif

Don care bout which is better 1st, try 35mm and 50mm in your kitlens and walk around...... see whether which focal length u can tahan.... haha, DX users 50mm is really just for portraits IMO!! Can't do much, group portraits oso diff, too tight!
*
I still feel the 18-105 kitlens rocks after playing for a while with my prime! thumbup.gif

Noob prime lens question here:

I know the in-focus range is quite limited when the aperture is close to f/2. Usually how far you guys stand from subject with this kind of situation. I hope you can understand what I meant. smile.gif

It's like 50mm on DX sensor = 75mm, so sometimes, when framing too tight, step back a bit, but then usually when try to focus again, focusing not as sharp, because of shallow DOF, so temporary workaround = increase aperture, but sacrifice bokeh lar... tongue.gif

Still experimenting to find a workaround.

tongue.gif I just fell in love with the sharpness and bokeh when I first got my prime... But when comes to the time to frame and focus, gave me so much headaches. rclxub.gif

I rather buy with less accessories that I DO NOT NEED and get a more cheaper price. Free gifts ain't free actually. They are added to your total cost of camera.
For me, i would get the camera + kit. The rest, I slowly survey if i need it myself or not. What's the point of having so many itemz tat you wont reli use lol.
*
Now I just wanna spend more on batteries and memory cards. It's really a lousy moment when I know that my camera is running out of juice during events. doh.gif

What is so special about AF motor?
*
If body don't have AF motor, then you have to rely on lens with built-in AF motor, which are usually pricier.

Very true. It really depend on that you want to shoot.
I'll bring manual lens out if I plan to go out walk around the park see got anything nice to shoot.
If I go out shoot fashion show or event, bring 70-200 and aluminum stair.  <-- I was like this, now no more...

No offense, but i see that most of the new people who just into photography are so worried about gears more than their skill.. Even pros with normal camera can take good picture... So advice is get a grip on ur skill and think about gear later on....
*
I prefer newbies to worry how to use the equipment and learn to overcome the limitations rather than whether or not the equipment performs. Every lens have their own characteristics, and it's not about whether or not it's quality is good or not.

yep for me photography is about seizing the moment. I love watching how people react with their natural expression. Most prefer they pose themselves because if I were to make them pose for me... seems abit awkward unless they are comfortable with it  brows.gif
I would try to grab as much opportunity as possible to take photos, can't grab much experience at home. Yeah, human subjects always make a photo very interesting and livelier.

Stop arguing about this crap and that crap people. Expensive lenses do not guarantee a good picture if the photographer is a crap. Mastering your metering and using available lighting are what I learn from my fellow photographer friends.

Shot using D40 and kitlens 4 years ago I think. It's a crap lens.. laugh.gif

Expensive lens are to make your life easier, if taking photos gives you 3 meals a day.
