Bro. When do you think one should upgrade their kit lense?
I bought my DSLR like 1 month ago, and I am thinking to upgrade my kit lens 18-55mm to 50mm f\1.4G?
a lot of people say it's too soon. as I only know DSLR for 1 month, I myself find it kind of true as I saw people carrying their kit lens for 10 months even more.

So I am wondering when is the appropriate time for upgrade the kit lense??
is it when you know aperture, iso and shutter speed?
or anything else??
*
You need to go out and take more pics rather than sitting there and think about what lens to buy. As I said, each lens has their own characteristics and each time you use a different kind of lens than your kitlens
it opens u a whole new chapter on photography and may confuse you even more if you are still not familiar with the basic foundation.

Now since you have a brand new DSLR, learn to take and make pictures that looks like a DSLR pic, rather than still looked like a point and shoot. smile.gif

yes they do... and no special technique really... i used nikon diffusion dome on my sb most of the time....

I read somewhere on the Internet, the pastor (other countries) would specifically ask for no flash during certain occasion in the church, so I'm a bit curious.

same aperture sharper? meaning wif prime lens background sharper?
*
Overall image sharper. Due to prime having less optical elements than zooms.

Usually we talk about subject in-focus. If want background sharper, use a smaller aperture.

We should do like "Iron Photographer" spam. Which means spam picture based on the theme but remove one element. Challenge your creativity. thumbup.gif

Hi again..

Excellent explaination..which given me enuf information on why photo had being poorly shot.  Thanks again..I will try out again tomorrow...

All the while, i was thinking..smaller aperture will come out sharper photo..and I dont know that going to cause diffraction...

Yes, you were right, i was using crap tripod..(free by salesman)..I will bring a better one tomorrow and try out.

Shutter releasse delay function - I never realize has this function. THanks for the infor. I will try out.

Self timer - in fact, i was using self timer when took the photo.

Thanks.....at least i have a solution for this problem..

thanks...I got the message.  actualy, in wat situation we should use number above f/11??

Added on November 26, 2010, 12:57 am
thanks bro...I should go and get a remote shutter release..because i use to take photo alot in low light situation..

I was try to use flashgun with disfuser, shoot the flash up the ceiling..mm..the outcome..very "flash" feel..product sharp, but no natural feel...
*
Usually we use f/11 or above during broad daylight or when shooting panorama when we want larger depth of field so that more will be in focus. We rarely use very small apertures during indoor shooting. Unless you have super bright light to compensate it, but so far I can't think of any reason to do it indoors because the light is already so limited.

As for the flashgun, you may be able to set to a lesser flash output and crank up your ISO a bit. Don't just try to bounce to the ceiling. Can bounce to the walls also, left or right, or bounce to your back, whichever is convenient to you. Try to experiment with different aperture and shutter speed settings so that you can blend in nicely the ambient light and the flash. It should look natural.

Not bad, the 85mm able to focus fast enough for event tongue.gif. But definitely not as fast as the 70200.

Yeah. Confirmed. I used my D90 body to drive the autofocus on the f/1.8D. smile.gif

You can get it for around rm380.

After plugging in the 50mm, my D90 feels like a casual point and shoot again, doesn't feel like a paparazzi lugging a 18105 when walking around. thumbup.gif

I used Lenspen. Just cleaned my 2 lenses *filter* for an event this Sunday. thumbup.gif

Actually you can just get the spectacles cloth from optical shops. Some shops they just give them out for free, cos there's no reselling value anyway. All you need to do is ask. laugh.gif

Environment is very warm, with normal lighting coming from the window below. When I adjust the white balance leg areas will be affected to be cold instead. If I balance the legs area then whole photo would be very warm.
*
When you mentioned about WB, some questions triggered in my mind again.

What do you think about a photographer's perception about the warmness of the photo? I mean, is it subjective to say whether or not having a warmer photo is good or bad?

Because there was a time I shot 2 pics, one warmer WB and one cooler WB. I like warmer WB because it fits the mood that time (yellowish somehow feels more romantic). My friend, on the other hand feels cooler WB is nicer. So, yeah, I think depends on one's preference. smile.gif
