Hmmm i see... i still dont get harmonics, how exactly do you play it? and what type of sound is it supposed to produce??and how do you know if u're bass has intonation problems?
*
Hmm...how to explain...i'm now back at my dad's hometown so there's no picture i can show. There's few types of harmonics but I only know natural harmonics which is the most basic harmonic.

Anyway, this websites have good examples :-
http://www.cyberfretbass.com/techniques/ha...tural/index.php
http://www.deanpeer.com/BassHarmonics.html

Intonation problems...hmm, I think when you play on 12th fret, the note that came out is not exactly the same with the open strings one...

QUOTE(kardock @ Oct 31 2005, 09:12 AM)
so i just need to call tham and arrange a meeting with him? oh okay, i'll give it a shot. i'm not sure whether it is really bend or not. but when i tune my bass (using the tuner of course) and play the F note (u know, the 1st fret of 1st string from above). it will sound bzzzttt. like, the string touched with the fret line. can i repair it by myself? it happen after i didn't play it for quite some time and my mom place it by laying it against the wall. so saddening. sad.gif
*
You can try repair it yourself, but since you not really sure anyway, it's safer to send it to techie. From your description, it's a fret buzz, can play around with the trust rod but it's not recommanded. Afraid further damage could happen.

QUOTE(NZX @ Nov 1 2005, 01:54 AM)

QUOTE(foogie @ Nov 2 2005, 06:15 PM)
Anyways, out of curiosity, when u guys run scales as fill-ins fr rock songs, where does ur scale ends, i mean like let's say when da key u're playing is G, obviously u run Gmaj scale, which is G, A, B, C, D, E, F# and G again. on which note do u end da fill-in? fr church songs, i wud skip a few chords, and play until da higher G which is quite nice even fr jazz, but for rock? i recently saw a few of those bassists in bands like Seether dat runs until D if my hearing is correct. On some jazz songs, it's quite nice to continue da scale after the higher G if there's 2 bars of G (a quite rare occasion but do happen). sumtimes if played fast enough, 1 bar of G is possible to do it. anyways, jz tell me wat yall think. sum might disagree tho.

P.S. Hoobastank's bassist disappoints me.
*
QUOTE(NZX @ Nov 3 2005, 01:07 AM)
I tot u supposed to do fill ins then end in wut the next chord is in the next bar? If not then u would sound like u playing wrong note coz out of synch wit da band. Well i think i not answering ur question lar..coz i dun really understand ur Q.
*
I'm pretty much have the same opinion as NZX, since I don't have music theory background. Maybe you could simplify your question for n00b like me? notworthy.gif

Oh, checkout Hoobastank older material...like this one song called "Can I Buy You A Drink?"...very funky & jazzy stuff. I don't really like their modern rock stuff.

QUOTE(MoNnY @ Nov 3 2005, 05:46 PM)
the RBX has a boost switch... i think its the same as chapree's bass

Curbow boost switch will boost the mid. I look around for RBX, there's no information of what the boost switch does.

By the way.. how about TGM's bass????

I saw a few, especially the acoustic bass one...
The acoustic one...given the price less than RM 1k, not that bad la...ok for beginner/no money to buy more expensive acoustic bass but i never tried the electric one before.

For sub-RM 600, there's not much option I guess...let me try list some below. Not according to ranking yah...

1. Squier - i think you can get one around slightly above 600 for a P-Bass. Backed by Fender but dun expect it could be a Fender. tongue.gif

2. SX - definately around your budget. You can choose either P or J style...IMHO, better tone & quality than Squier. Since the build & quality are quite good for the price, it's suitable for future upgrades.

3. TGM - their acoustic one are not bad (RM 750), but hope the electrics will not far off if not as same quality as their acoustics for sub-600 ringgit.

4. Prince - the cheapest of the lot, u can get em around 400. Quality & sound very doubtful.

Just my 0.5 cents worth of talking smile.gif

Awww...thanks.

But dude, I'm aiming for a Fender Percision Bass standard, is that possible?

Oh yeah, my budget is not RM600, it's RM3000 for bass and amp.

Note: I've have posted a question about the bass on the price list thread, they haven't reply, so I ask here.
*
Oh...the answer just now are for another fella...hahaha laugh.gif

For RM 3000, yes u can get both Fender MIM P-Bass Standard and a 100-w amp (at least an Ibanez). Just need to do some bargaining smile.gif

IMHO, P-Bass sound are not modern...they are retro to me. laugh.gif

MIM = Made in Mexico
MIA = Made in America
MIJ = Made in Japan.

These 3 places are the places where Fender basses came from. Affect the value & prices too laugh.gif

I don't know the exact price...just my estimation. If you concern about tone, then Ibanez are not really for you...just visit Bentley and test around. You have big budget, they will welcome u one laugh.gif

Heheh...what amp? Set aside money for your Fender, then look at what option you have. smile.gif

I prefer Ampeg amps...I only use like once or twice in my lifetime and it's god damn expensive to own one. That's the main reason why I bought a Bass V-Amp since it got Ampeg model inside smile.gif

But I'm gonna buy a 100 Watt amp to play on the open-air gig next years. And yes, gonna use the 100 Watt to practice at home as well. sweat.gif
*
The last time I did an open air show, they gave me a 50watter...thank god for good P.A system laugh.gif

QUOTE(ZidaneZCustom @ Nov 11 2005, 01:37 AM)
Haha, that's good. What about all of us (SPM students) find a job and get RM3k after the exam to get ourselves a dream setup?

By the way, what is the limiter for? Limiting the watt?
*
I salute you all SPMers...all the best for exams and work hard for your rigs thumbup.gif

Limiter will cut some of your upper frequency are to prevent clipping (overlimiting your amp). From Behringer.com - "Limits the dynamic range similar to a compressor but only "at the top" and in a more drastic manner: the maximum level of the signal is prevented from exceeding the set threshold level. "

Second paragraph: 50 Watts, you mean the bass amp connected to the PA system and make it both speakers and amps to show the sound?
*
They miked it. So the puny amp just there to be my monitor. laugh.gif
I got another two open air show setting that I like to share with you guys (lol, sounds so poyo...) :-

1. Fete De La Musique 2004 @ Berjaya Times Square
- Ampeg combo amp (forgot how many watts) - DI-ed to the console.
- sounds good on my monitor but some of my friends complain they can barely hear it up front.

2. Fete De La Musique 2005 @ One Utama
- Ampeg combo (the same Ampeg, yesh)
- not D.I'ed.
- since we playing at a small space (at the rainforest area in the new wing), everybody can hear it.

QUOTE(ZidaneZCustom @ Nov 11 2005, 01:32 PM)
Oh my God, should I get a Squier P-Bass and get a better amp??? blink.gif

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Get a Fender! Get a lesser amp... tongue.gif
Think about it...you definately bring your P-Bass everywhere...but not your amp laugh.gif

Then 2k for the bass and 1k for the amp. I hope can get the Bassman 100 at 1k.  unsure.gif Bargain needed.

After I got the P-Bass playing for years, I might get the American P-Bass that costs exactly 3k. I'm like more into P-Bass, other model like J-Bass and other brands are good, but still prefer the sound of P-Bass. wink.gif Mark Hoppus' J-Bass would sound good with a customized Seymour Duncan P-Bass pickups.

By the way, is it okay to full blast a 60 watt amp in open-air gigs?
*
American P-Bass is RM 5k.
Except for Highway 1 Series it's 2.5 - 3k. Made in USA but diff material in finishing and some hardware.
I suggest from the 3k, buy the Behringer BX1200 and get Highway 1 P-Bass thumbup.gif

QUOTE(ZidaneZCustom @ Nov 12 2005, 01:35 AM)
Okay, never full blast. Okay...
Well, I have posted on the previous post. The price is quoted from SameDayMusic.com, the Bassman 100 costs $350 x 3.8 = RM1330. Hmmm...I think it's made in Indonesia one.

I have quoted the P-Bass pricing at SameDayMusic.com, the P-Bass cost 440$ x 3.8 = RM1672. So it's around RM1.7k (good job charpee! smile.gif) But I prepare for RM2k for the P-Bass as well as the extra accessories for my bass like the Gator case. But still will bargain.

All together is over RM3k, needed RM4k. Sighs, maybe I should look for a job offer higher salary loh...

I'm still thinking in my mind, 60 or 100 watts? Maybe set my budjet higher is the best choice. wink.gif Don't you guys think a 60 watt amp can play gigs on a open-air gig?
*
The thing about pricing in online shop, they are different with physical shop. Somemore we talking about buying stuff in Malaysia. So the price are totallty different...somemore u know la how Bentley markup prices ritee...if you really want it cheap, Ebay.com is the way thumbup.gif

I forwarded your dilemma to some of Jamtank's Bassist thread forum for further clarification and idea, this is what they suggested.

1. For amps, even for 100w you will be underpowered by your guitarist as heard by your audience especially in open air situation. (as told by a veteran sessionist and jingle composer)

2. So for that, it's better to DI you bass to mixer. Add a good pre-amp/DI like SansAmp, off you go! (suggested by a sound engineer)

Setting your budget higher can improve lotsaa things laugh.gif

Well, for the Warwick Thumb 5, u can check it out at JS Music (same row with CK Music), Jalan Imbi. Although I'm not sure if it's still there or not. For the Thumb 6, then you gotta to arrange with the owner.

Monny : Relaxx...don't let you GAS blind you...HAHAHAHA laugh.gif laugh.gif The cheapest 6-string I ever saw is Samick's 6 string...i think around 1.4 - 1.6k...but that was looonggg time ago laugh.gif
