one dead N8 here. barely 3 weeks old.

1U NCC has absolutely no stock for the motherboard.

was playing Guns'n'Glory with USB cable plugged. not long after answering a call and back to gaming the phone restarted/turned off. i tried to power it up immediately and it got to the Nokia logo only. after a few tries it managed to boot properly but it turned off again in just a couple of seconds.

over the period of 3 weeks i've experienced the phone restarting not more than 5 times when playing the same game or web browsing using Opera Mobile. i'm guessing Symbian 3 has a memory leak of sort and it goes haywire if its turned back on immediately after a hung state.

Most probably , Motherboard defect as i had it too . Went NCC , changed board , it works all fine now except for all my data lost and a few minor damages done by NCC.

I type half way can cancel it just now when u all talk about n900...

it is truly a crappy phone if you call it a phone..

and those "tablet" are really not mean for mass market...

do not expect ppl buy a phone and fool around wt it like most of us here

And to think all this while Nokia provides great phone functions, even on the Symbian. When switch to Maemo, suddenly all those functions and features missing.

The Maemo is completely like a product from a different Company. Although it's a different team, but if it's under the same company, it should have shared the strength and implement those functions and features; They didn't even provide a better profile manager (easily done?), no ringtone assignment features (again easily done?), no contacts grouping (again easily done?), no official MMS, no 3G call functions, etc.

Anyway, such a device is usually not meant for everyone, it's an Internet Tablet. Not everyone wants or needs it, some people want a good phone, with nice camera, and usually also with lots of games; but sometimes, people buys product because others say it's good without reviewing themselves or knowing what's the product, does it meets their requirements/needs, etc. Every device has its target market, usually the wrong person buying the wrong device because listening to other, will claim the device is not good after using. Just like someone who wants a spacious car with ample leg room space, big boot that can fit their MIL, golfs bags, strollers, etc. but end up buying a car that doesn't meet his/her requirement because of how good people praise the car for it's features, performance and value for money.

In N900 case, many people actually buys it without knowing much about it, then later complains about it, they don't subscribe data plan, they don't/rarely browse with mobile devices, etc. They want a phone for SMS, MMS, 3G Calls, decent/good camera and play games.

Pergh, mad.gif because of them, we need to clean up their rubbish work, my current workplace outsource some projects to them and now we're taking over the maintenance, it's utterly rubbish work from them; If there is a bug, you report to them, the is possibility the bug is STILL there after they mark it as RESOLVED, and it can even repeat again!

For those who know about web development, guess what? They pass the whole SQL Where condition through URL String as parameter, there is so many redundant codes copy-and-paste, etc. Reviewing and cleaning up their codes is full of curse.
The best part? To achieve something, they like to take a complicated and long path.
Example in other terms:
1+1 = 2
BUT, they must do complicated calculations and formula: 1+(5X2)-(19/2)-1........ = 2

Profile manager,Ringtone assignment features,Contacts grouping & MMS all delivered by community apps...I think the people at Nokia just let it slide because somebody else is cleaning up their mess.

Try being N900 TS.You'll be bombarded with question like "why there's no new firmware yet?","why no 3G call support yet?","The OS is too hard to use,can you guide me step by step?" etc2...Mayeb I should clarify that I don't work for Nokia sweat.gif

Also I've seen plenty of N900 users who sold their phone after less than 1 month of usage. The main reason they state is it's bulky sweat.gif

Back to Symbian.
Now I can't wait for E7 launch. Some claim that these N8 damage is caused by the OS( blink.gif )
I wan't to see whether E7 will have similar 'dead" issue like N8.

Ya, I knew being TS is tough, much much more worst for N900. Imagine aspire being TS for so long, especially when it first started. Anyway, for those features, if Nokia wants to add it in, it's should be very easy and many things could've been done on the OS, it's a great OS which is different from other smartphone OS, too bad it's been left aside.
I remember when the N900 was still new, it was sold at lowyat forums for over 3.3K, there're people who bought it and then sold it after a short while. Later AP starts bringing in and the price drops to around 2K++. It was after quite some time, finally Nokia Malaysia decided to bring it in, but the Launching event seems nothing compared to India and HK where there're so many professionals in the event sharing tons of information and capabilities of the device.

As for N8 or Symbian, it's suited/targeted for more variety of Customers; but for me, as N900 user, really cannot switch, N900 connection to WLAN is excellent compared with Symbian, web browsing blows everything away, the "true" integrated social network accounts (+ can add more via 3rd party plugins), sharing feature to accounts, mplayer with KMplayer to play almost every type of video files, gosh, too many to list. BUT then, this depends on individual if he/she likes all the features I just mentioned.
Aside from that, having used to using physical keyboard is another issue when using the N8 which doesn't have physical keyboard, so many things is "harder" to do, typing sms, email, message, etc is "very the pain". E7 looks great plus having physical keyboard, but the let down is the camera and no external storage support. There just have to be something lacking, so hard to find an "almost complete" device from Nokia.
Will see how MeeGo devices from Nokia turns out, the specs, etc. Hopefully, it's really a high end device with great functions and features overall...

One more thing I forgot to mention that day in NCC is that I was somehow given priority to get my phone repaired in 2 hours. So Maybe that rush that caused my phone the unexpected damage?

Anyway thanks to those involved to make my phone repaired on time. Especially Radiance and ofcourse the Nokia team , NCC too altho it isnt a perfect service. So yeah.

Mostly high end will be meego then mid and low will be symbian.
If you tried and master Maemo you will really feel its potential. Maemo is more like what you can imagine it can do it but you must know how to haha.
