will you be looking forwards to full frame in the future? if yes, then 50mm 1.4, if not the 1.8 will be a cheap and cheerful lens which will last u quite a while... that small amount of aperture difference will not make THAT much of a difference anyway...

welcome to the club ^^ rclxms.gif

hi all!

got some questions

currently using the kit lens 18-70mm

wanted to snap macro photos

Macro and wide angle converter << this one worth the value? i getting it around RM150++

btw, its not a lens isit? it is just a converter? which means? mind explain? thx all sifu for explain for me, really appreciate it!
*
convertors are not really a solution to macro (its called close up filter) or wide angle convertors, they degrade image quality and causes a lot of fringing and blurring. if you have the 150 to burn, then go ahead with it and see how it works out for you. else, save up another 100 or so to get the Raynox 250... that will give better results.

lwliam : Coma? I don't think so. I think most probably it's a little flare made worse by the UV filter. I was shooting the scene at f8 so I think any coma that can happen should have been gone after stopping down so much.

Anyway, here's a little story behind the shot. As I was framing my shot and waiting for the fountain to start, along comes a Chinese (meaning from China proper) lady and asks to look at my cam.

So I stepped back and she peered through the viewfinder and said, "Wah! Jiang je kan dao hen ching chu or!" Or translated - "Wah! Like this can see clearly!"

She is very nice looking and the fact that she peered through the viewfinder without any prompting means that she knows a thing or two about cameras. If not for the fact that she was hanging off the arms of another guy, I would have made my move! .............. Or not! LOL!!!!

iso 1600 f3.5 looking very soft there, but yeah, got the moment i guess.
*
i dont think that is soft, its subject movement..

QUOTE(eddybeh @ Nov 23 2010, 12:04 PM)
shootkk: if not mistaken, lwiliam said tat. if not mistaken la.. haha... Too bad it's quite hard to find 50mm f1.7 lately. few months ago there were plenty but not now.
*
eh since when i said that? rclxub.gif even if i made the comparison also, it would be the coatings as Sony will have a better/improved coating than back in the Minolta times.. but anyway, unless the lens is really in good condition and is dirt cheap only i would go for a 50mm 1.4, else, i think my 1.7 can do the job (minus the bokeh - which is bad wide open sad.gif )

im eyeing the 35mm as well, either the 1.8 or the 30mm 2.8 macro... too bad they're both DTs.

you could use Kelvin settings to get the ambient like you want, even WITH flash... probably use 7000K-9000K depending on the actual ambient light, of coz your flash light have to be diffused enough..

at 1/160, what ambient light in the background also gone edi laa... with f/10 your camera is detecting sooo little light from your flash that the flash would need to fire nearly full power to actually light up the scene.

next time with conditions like this, take this as a guideline.. its not set in stone, so follow where appropriate..

f/4 - f/5.6 (larger aperture the better)
1/30 - 1/50
ISO 400 minimum, higher the better (noise limiting factor)

QUOTE(eddybeh @ Nov 23 2010, 11:52 PM)
lwliam: good guideline. say at f1.4 at these situations, don get too shallow DoF?
*
of coz depends on the situation as well.. if big groups, then use 3.5 / 4 like that lor.. generally, if u are far enough from your subject, even at 1.4, the DoF is still 'thick' enough to cover the subject you want...
and at times, dont be afraid to use direct flash if bounce is not enough to give sufficient light..
