QUOTE(G-17 @ May 16 2011, 09:52 PM) What happened to piping conky to your scrotbar? ... any problems? Yeah, I'm not keen on piping conky into my scrotbar. Still looking for a way to directly put my moc straight into my scrotbar. I got the theory right but its not working. I suspect Slim (yes, always the culprit) is the reason for this. But too busy to test any further now. Also, you need some color in your life, girl!!... Pimp those .Xdefaults~!! Colour? Rainbows? Unicorns? Then I shall switch to 'Hannah Montana Linux' (screenshots available on request) |

QUOTE(G-17 @ May 21 2011, 02:33 AM) Uhm ... I meant you should pimp out your .Xdefaults/.Xresources. Hmm, you have a point there about clear syntax highlighting. Might seems trivial, but if you go through a lot of config files or documents with Vim or Emacs (or even Nano, for that matter), having clear syntax highlighting makes for a more pleasing experience. Hmm .... Feel like we should start a .Xdefaults/ Term-Colors thread, though I foresee only 2 or 3 members contributing on a regular basis :-/ Also, yeah you should start a .Xdefaults/Term-colours thread. It might help. |

Guys, the fact that we are using Linux means we aren't mainstream or have you forgotten that *nix is only 5% marketshare.
And monsh, welcome to Linux and the rabbit hole. I think everybody started with an installation and then said, "What????". <fast forward X days/months> They are now recompiling their own kernels. So its going to be a long bumpy ride but it will be interesting. Related to topic » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by farkinid: Jun 10 2011, 09:52 AM |

QUOTE(cocooh @ Jun 13 2011, 12:27 AM) You can refer to my Tiling Window Adventures (hosted by G-17) thread found here. If you discover anything new, please do not hesitate to add to that topic. Might turn it into the Tiling Window Guide if enough ppl contribute. |

QUOTE(monsh @ Aug 4 2011, 06:13 PM) what are these things u guys doing ? Awww.... don't worry. You can do it too. Just do a minimal install on any computer. I suggest Debian but I'm bias.cant even stand any bit of it man . and yet, u all having fun of it . im all left out T_T Then look at the screenshots and choose a WM you like. I use ScrotWM, cocooh uses EvilWM, G-17 uses.. well... ALL. You can be the next guy and try RatWM. Configure in any way you want and post screenshot here. Then we'll all go oooh and aaaah. (seriously, we will) Try it. No fear! Edit : You can get a comparison of WM here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compar...Window_Managers. I wouldn't be surprised if G-17 wrote the whole thing. QUOTE(G-17 @ Aug 5 2011, 08:54 PM) What is RatWM? O_o ... I've never come across it. Do you mean Ratpoison? Yup, sry I meant Ratpoison. The name is so cool, I might want to switch to it. Subtle WM does look interesting though. But I am kinda stuck on a project. Might go on for the next 6 months. And NO, I don't use ALL One WM I always wanted to try was WMFS. It's absolutely wonderful in use, and can be configured with almost infinite possibilities. Reason I don't run it right now is because it displayed higher CPU load cycles than normal when I last tried, and had a habit of leaking memory and forcing the swap. It's still on my -to-do list, though. Try it if you like. No official debs but the main site has instructions for getting a PPA up or pulling from Github. Zai, EvilWM and Openbox are not Tiling window managers. They're still stacking/floating types, FYI Added on August 5, 2011, 8:58 pm Back on topic, Posting a scrot of Subtle WM from a few months back cos Zai was curious. ![]() ...and yes, I actually listen to Prince ... embarrassing but true >_< Also, TAFKAP???? QUOTE(G-17 @ Aug 11 2011, 05:17 PM) I wouldn't say fun, just more comfy for me. Tiling WM's were mostly designed around the needs of CLI users, mainly people who do a lot of editing in Vi or Emacs, giving them the ability to automatically tile projects side-by-side and make diff comparisons and whatnot. You'll see a lot of posers all over the web who show off a tiling wm, but actually use regular Nautilus or Thunar for their file management and Gedit or Mousepad for their editing. What's the point? Actually, I use ALOT of command line but still use gedit for editing. I like the background colour when editing. Its easy on the eyes.Use a tiler only if you feel your apps and workflow will benefit from it. One benefit (regardless of whether you're a CLI or GUI guy) is that you'll never feel the need to minimize to a panel or tray ever again. It's an acquired taste, though. A tiling wm must feel like a second skin to you, or it'll just be a pain in the long run. Some of my most efficient setups are extremely low contrast and bland, like this one; ![]() P.S: Could you guys please start using thumbnails. That being said, command line is imperative for network related stuff. The only networking tool I use with a nice GUI is wireshark. Everything else (tcpdump, nc, etc) all use command line. |

QUOTE(G-17 @ Aug 11 2011, 06:12 PM) I'm curious. How does one do manual diff comparisons on GEdit?? (I mean side-by side, not using a diff checker) I've tried it before, but Gedit seems to prefer a tabbing type of mode. I don't usually need to compare multiple documents. Usually its just to examine results and figure out what the data means. And there is ALOT of lines to go thru. |
