MSI MPower and GTX 680 Lightning

MSI MPower

Unlike some other manufacturers, MSI have a clear division between each model in their range, from the lowly G45 up to the enthusiast GD80. It's a simple system with a bigger number meaning a higher end motherboard, and few branches off the path.

The Big Bang nomenclature is reserved for the highest models in the range. Where Gigabyte has a UD7, ASUS the 'Extreme', so MSI have a Big Bang. Each model comes with a different suffix, and today we're taking a look at the latest in their range, the Z77 Big Bang MPower.

Military Class III is the big buzzword with the MSI MPower. Polymer capacitors, Super Ferrite Chokes and MSI's own DrMos II ensure that the MPower really does live up to its name. The Military Class isn't just a bit of meaningless advertising blurb either. These components have passed the MIL-STD-810G test, which is the United States Military Standard for ensuring that items are tested to the very extremes, and thus worthy of use with the Department of Defence. Given how much of a pounding they'll get in the field, it's pretty safe to bet that they'll be indestructible on your desk.

MSI GTX680 Lightning Edition

All hail Megatron -- well seriously it's the first thing that went through my mind while looking at the GeForce GTX 680 Lightning from MSI today. A beast of a graphics card that breathes power to show its performance.

Fast and furious are another the two keywords that describe the Lightning product from MSI. Today they released their GeForce GTX 680 Lightning edition. An all customized PCB, extra features, a fast factory-overclock and that new TwinFrozr IV cooler is bound to make the Kepler GPU empowered MSI GeForce GTX 680 Lightning a very sexy product.

MSI Military Class - Personal Analysis

user posted image

Military Class Overview
MSI first launched the Military Class product series at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2010 and now a new revision of Military Class of products will be seen in the upcoming Intel 6 Series Mainboard. In short, Military Class is referring to a combination of stability, extreme durability and high performance through the implementation of server grade materials in MSI line of component products, namely Mainboard and Graphic Card. The mentioned server grade materials are Hi-c CAP, Icy Choke, Solid State Choke and Solid CAP. In the upcoming Intel Sandy Bridge platform, MSI will launch the second generation of Military Class components, named Military Class II.

Hi-c CAP
* Highly-conductive Polymerized Capacitor
* Tantalum Core
* High Capacitance
* High ripple-current handling capability
* Mainly used in Military, Avionic, Space System industries

ICY Choke
* High Heat Resistance
* Low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance)
* Reduced Operating Temperature.
* Lower Power Consumption
* Smart Power Saving Usage

Solid State Choke
* Manage Higher Voltage
* Reduce the production of Noise
* No high frequency Buzz Noise

Solid CAP
* High Polymer Aluminum
* Increase heat-resistance
* 10 years of product lifespan in 80°C operating environments
* Feature in entire range of MSI Military Class product series

Super Ferrite Choke
* Increases Maximum Current by 30%
* Increases Power Efficiency by 10%

When the Military Class Concept was first launched in 2009, MSI is the only manufacturer to include the mentioned server grade components in the production of Mainboard and Graphic Card. It's pretty clear that MSI is very much focused in providing better stability and durability in their product line. Now that it's an open secret that MSI is going to introduce Military Class II in the upcoming Intel Sandy Bridge platform, I notice that other than a new revision/generation name change, the only difference spotted is the inclusion of Super Ferrite Choke. After a quick peek at the upcoming P67 series mainboard, it seems that all of them are equipped with SFC. One will get disappointed with Military Class II if he/she hopes for full-makeover while those who ponder just a little, they may realize that it's quite difficult to make a improve something which is already one of the best around.

hrmm... MSI did bring in 20 pieces if i'm not mistaken, the normal version. but within days all sold out. and i see this trend not only with MSI brand, other brands as well. Maybe because of the pricing of 6870. as for Cyclone, Hawk or Lightning version, it is definitely slower as it's not reference card.

but now the main issue of the delay is caused by the shortage of AMD GPU Chipset.

Unboxing - MSI P67A-GD65

Computer Technology Enthusiasts is now sitting tight anticipating for the release of Intel Sandy Bridge Platform on the 5th of January 2011, including me. Rumours has it that the upcoming Intel 6 Series Platform is one hell of a performance giant succeeding the Intel i5/i7 Lynnfield and Clarkdale processors. I'm lucky enough to be given the opportunity to unveil some of the Intel 6 Series Mainboards from MSI. While my regular OC Partner, dblooi is also lucky enough to be given the same opportunity by Gigabyte to show some actual pictures for their own mainboards. Cut the crap, straight to the unboxing of MSI P67A-GD65 Mainboard.

TechnoG: yeah... it's my fault. cause i'm not a gamer. and by the time i know that the game is not stressing, it was already the day before the event starts. i couldn't make any changes anymore other than changing the graphic card. initially we planned to showcase the MSI N480GTX Lightning. about the monitor, no idea actually. all i know it's an 27 inch Viewsonic loaned by Viewnet, the Official PC Reseller for the event. hehe..

MSI ClickBIOS of P67/H67 Lineup Preview

It's really time to say goodbye to the traditional "Blue & White" Bios Screen. No doubt that the more-than-a-decade-technology has served us well and still going strong among users/overclockers, and honestly I still like it. Now with the new up-coming Intel Sandy Bridge Platform, we are going to witness a new era of BIOS with better interactive interface, the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI). Not only MSI, I believe other manufacturers are also providing EFI Bios for their P67 Chipset product line. EFI has been seen around for quite sometime in the server industry, but starting from 5th January 2011, it will be largely seen in our daily desktop. I'm not an expert in explaining the difference between BIOS vs EFI, wikipedia should be better than me. So just click the below link for detail information about both BIOS and EFI. However, i would like to share with the community on the EFI that will be seen in MSI P67/H67 Mainboard Lineup, namely MSI ClickBIOS. I'll share some of the key features we always play with. I deeply hope those who 'love' to lurk around in BIOS will be interested.
