Go for CM6.1. The latest. Can't comment on the battery though as I feel it just the same as 6.0 or any other roms I've flashed.

Yes it is an app. You can check some battery app in the market, I'm not sure which one but there are a few of them that can save battery by turning off something and whats so ever. I believe it is either BattExtender of JuiceDefender. Welcome to the club bro.
Yes it is Froyo. I don't think so. Tried it with mine but didn't work. Some people in XDA did report it is working by using an app called Barnacle.

It reads your CPU load. Meaning how much is the CPU being use while in a state. For example User 64.4%, it means it is using 64.4% of the CPU while you were playing with it. Idle 0.0% so no activity on the CPU while the phone is idle. So on and so forth.
Is it working in the stock Froyo?
Try searching app on the Android thread, I've posted a list of some pretty darn good apps that most of them I have since way back.
Same here except I've already rooted. Just won't flash another rom until CM7 is released!
I've looked around XDA and found out that there are a few people with the same problem as yours. Nobody can figure it out yet. My advice is to do a factory reset and see what happens.

my 1st android based hp. Juz wanna ask. im currently on official 2.2 froyo.

Is there any way juz to give my hp 'superuser' access with modifying any stock app etc. Just need a root access to use some apps on d market.

That Windows Phone 7 look can be done by using Desktop Visualizer. It can be used on normal launchers such as launcher pro
