I bought the Nokia C7 a few days back, and it hanged more than 10 times on the first day!

I did a google search, and it turns out that hundreds of other people are experiencing the same problems:

1. Phone hangs then restarts after a few seconds

2. Unable to download and/or use apps from the Nokia OVI Store

3. Worst one - phone hangs, shuts down, then cannot be started up again for a while, like 30 minutes to a few hours

These problems occur VERY frequently.

Apparently Nokia rushed the launching of these phones to compete with Android based phones before complete testing has been done, so the software is still in its early stages. No sign of when the new software version will be released.

You can check out this forum to see some of the complaints and Tim Allen, Product Manager of the C7 itself posts about the phone:

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96993

P/S: The C7 is REALLY nice to use, touch screen is responsive, interface is smooth and beautiful, so if you really want one, I suggest you wait until the problems are fixed.

Been trying to find time to get to a Nokia Care Centre, but:

1. The 1U branch is supposed to be open on weekends, but no one answers the phone on Saturdays and Sundays

2. I work in Sunway, so tried the SS15 branch, was closed with a sign; SYSTEM TERGENDALA with a phone number which no one answers

3. The one at Amcorp is closed on weekends

4. All centres are closed on public holidays

Quite disappointed with Nokia..

According to the top manager the necessary manufacturing changes have been effected, but improved phones will go on sale by the end of January or the beginning of February. They will be manufactured at the end of November or in December of 2010. Whether Nokia managed to solve the issue remains to be seen, but as of December 2010 Nokia will start producing handsets free of defects.

defective earpiece is different than N8's dead brick..

according to Eldar, it seems that N8 is like a timebomb lottery waiting to happen to any N8.. not sure how true is that..

Just sent in my C7 to the care centre at Amcorp in PJ, there was a lady there that told me she had the same problem, and they told her that her motherboard needs to be replaced, takes 2 weeks...

Apparently she wrote a complaint letter to Nokia headquarters, and all they told her was that they'll 'take note', and that Nokia Malaysia's policy is that they DO NOT replace phones..

This is getting ridiculous. How can Nokia sell defective products and refuse to replace them?

I had similar issue with my wife's C7 that I purchased for her birthday. It became dysfunctional within a day of purchase. It reset automatically and would not turn on. If it did turn on, it would hang for unknown reasons. I estimated that my wife was able to use her Nokia C7 less than 10 hours of the 7 days when it was in our possession before I sent it for Nokia service center. It was the worst purchase that I ever made because this handset is dysfunctional since it was shipped from Nokia factory. It seems that there is systemic problem with this Nokia C7 if one were to do goggling on "Nokia C7 hang".

Ultimately, I have sent my wife's C7 to 1Utama Nokia service center. I was informed that they are still waiting for 'motherboard' and the estimated time for Nokia to have some sort of fix my wife's brand new handset is at least 1 month. I overheard that the 1Utama service has already received 50+ returned C7 within a week of its launching date.

I felt cheated and very upset with this kind of quality expected from this supposedly world leader in handphone. I have been their most loyal customer for the past 10 years. I have never considered purchasing other brands except Nokia due to its quality and ease of user interface.

My experience was like purchasing a luxury car but you are unable to start the car for the next one month till the manufacture replace the engine. In the meantime, your hard earned money has gone to this supposedly world class company's pocket. They have NOT even offered to exchange their broken C7 handset with brand new one. It seems that Nokia think that their fumed customer can wait patiently for months to get their new handset fix. Due to Nokia's incompetency, my wife has to continue using her old handset which was supposed to be replaced by her new 'high tech' Nokia C7.

The decision by Nokia to launch this dysfunctional handset (and never publicly acknowledging their mistake or offering new replacement to affected customers) has lost one loyal buyer for good. I will never consider Nokia as my first choice handset after this experience.

Having the same problem, use the phone for less than 2 days. then need to wait for a month. spending so much and need to wait for a month. And yet, we lost 1 month warranty just for waiting...... (when we receive back the phone, it become only 11 month warranty left.....) sad.gif

We are in the same boat unfortunately:-(.

What I can't understand is the Nokia official statement that the problem is only related to few customers and it is under warranty. So essentially Nokia is telling us (customers) that we have to wait for a month before we eventually can get on our brand new fully paid C7 handset.

If I knew beforehand that anyone purchasing brand new C7 will be required to part from his handset and immediately send his dysfunctional but beautiful handset for one month ICU repair, I will NEVER purchase such a product in the first place. It doesn't matter whether the product has 10 or 100 years of warranty. A brand new product is simply supposed to work and not under ICU.

If the C7 handset is not ready for customer shipment due to its hardware/software bugs, Nokia is "supposed" to postphone the scheduled shipment. If the bugs were discovered after the shipment, Nokia is "supposed" to offer immediate replacement or money back just like its competitor Apple did recently. Nokia should NEVER ask its loyal customers to wait endlessly another 4 weeks on his fully paid handset. Unless it is the customer's fault for trusting the "quality" of leading hand phone brand.

the factory machine to manufacture this model still new. if u see car engine, the first time u buy the car, need to service more often cuz it has some chances to broke. machine are mostly like that. give it some chances, it will improve in times nod.gif

Latest update, my C7's been in the Nokia "Care" Centre for about 2 weeks. Called them, and they told me that "it's a global problem", and that I have "no choice but to wait".

So now, no refund, no replacement, just waiting for Nokia to get off their arses and do something.

Been a loyal Nokia consumer for years, but this may be the last time I buy anything Nokia.

I had just get Nokia N8Nokia N8 from online shop. The Nokia N8 is the first device using the Symbian^3 operating system from Nokia (or anyone), Along with the new platform, this smart phone also features a 12 megapixel camera with HD video recording, HDMI output, and an enhanced AMOLED touchscreen which places it right in the mix of today's hottest models.

In my time with the N8, I've looked at how much it measures up to its competitors, as well as how it compares to its predecessor, the Nokia N97 -- this company's previous attempt to keep its devices in the hands of the mobile elite. In some respects, it matches up well, in others, there's still some work to be done.
After using Nokia N8 seriously I don't have to face any problem like this.
Hope you will find it helpful.

yeah, my c7 hangs for no reason too, usually it says phone to restart, sometimes it says please insert SIM card.

WTF is wrong? so it is hardware issue? I'm actually getting sick of it!

My C6-01 seems fine. Some usual Symbian lag at the usual places but otherwise it's fine. No hang whatsoever. Been abusing it heavily since i got it.

i think Symbian is still not so stable comparing with iPhones or Androids, the only thing this phone wins is the 12MP camera & HD recording
It's OS cant be compared with other smart phones...hope Nokia will do sumting abt it or else there will be more & more loyal customers choose to leave it

They have big plans next year. Dual core, optical zoom, new browser, revamped UI, etc. As a long time symbian user, symbian^3 is a nice update with lots of big and small but useful changes. They might not have much market in the USA, but elsewhere they're still rockin'. At least, they're in Tron Legacy. tongue.gif

Hello All C7 and N8 user..
I would like to share my experience..
I currently use both C7 and N8, and I do a lot of heavy workload on it..

Everything goes worst when :
1. There a lot running application like reading pdf file, quick office, web surfing, playing music in one time..
2. When I start using an after market theme. (Really Quite Disappointed)..
3. When I do not turn off my phone for a week.. yes.. It is the worst ever..

But, It doing well and i really fell in love with them when :
1. I use default theme..
2. Clear all history in web apps once i done my surfing.
3. Close all apps properly every time when not use it anymore.
4. Never use fancy app like dummy apple slide to open apps.
4. Every night, I shut down this phone for 30 min. (to clear all data maybe.)

I assume, this is just like pc with atom compare with i7 pc.. Need more patience rather abuse it with heavy load..
Pity it... sweat.gif

Helo there..

Hmm i'm looking forward to get this N8 phone.. coz of its 12mgpixcel camera and the xenon flash (miss my late N82 though.. nice camera phone) unlike N97 before this (which ive sold it already) the pics taken with it seems not good enough and the color are not liking..

Hope nokia have resolve the probs.. im in so planning to get this phone..

Heard before this Nokia have re-called all the N8 phone becoz of its instability.. is it???

But it's kinda true if your issue is Firmware. NCC pretty much can't do anything except reinstalling your Firmware.
It still depends on Symbian team to work out the bugs smile.gif

if problem solved, then those in "nokia care" should be returned? guys, please update. Thanks!

btw, anyone research on the camera? Since it's a 28mm wide angle lens, is all portrait pictures (shooting a person) distorted? I really don't like the wide-angle distortion feel.
My questions are:
1. how far away should your target located in order to get the picture without distortion?
2. Its 2x (for still) and 3x (for video) digital zoom used full image sensor resolution, so the outcome is exactly the same quality as if without any zoom? is that true?
3. when using this digital zoom feature, can it solves the wide-angle distortion issue i mentioned in point 1?

Please share your experience. Thanks!! notworthy.gif

yok... if u understand digital zoom u won't ask question like 2x zoom still use full sensor in still image..... digital zoom always sacrifice pixel... but for video its still pretty good becoz 12mp still have plenty of extra pixel to spare for 1280 * 720 video....

I was considering the case where if I chose at a lower resolution (say 5MP) still photo with digital zoom (say 2x), will it smartly utilize the sensor such as when shooting video? Thanks! notworthy.gif

Is it? But those photos shot by N8 on the web seem mostly quite in a perspective distorted style. That's why I am worry. blink.gif

I bought the N8 three weeks ago and only used it for 8 days, the phone just died and a new motherboard was replaced after two weeks at NCC. Prior to that the phone was buggy with wifi not wanting to switch off and screen going blank when receiving or making calls etc..so today i collected the N8 from NCC thinking i would be getting a perfect phone, however the phone was even more erratic and i just had enough..from the NCC i proceeded to digi mall pj and traded in the phne at a big lost financially but a big relieved of getting rid of such an lousy product..sorry nokia, never again..
