I mean this wan 18-24-35-55. Normally you shoot using which one? 18,24, 35? or 55? If you always use all of the ranges, then don't think about prime lens. Use your kitlens first. Then later upgrade to Tammy 17-50mm Non VC because it the most reasonably price, has good optical performance among it's range and lighter compared to VC.

35mm F2 is about RM1105

For the money, its better off getting the Sigma 30mm f1.4 compared to the Canon.

The canon is an age old lens and doesn't come with USM compared to the sigma. And the sigma is a full stop faster than the canon.
Doesn't really matter if the Sigma is a APS-C lens.. if you are going full frame, you would probably pick the canon 35 f1.4 over the f2 anyway.

Plus, the bokeh of the 35 f2 isn't that pleasant too according to reviews from certain sites.

2000 ISO  shocking.gif  shocking.gif

my 450D on 1600 ISO like phone quality already
i'm using tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC

It is THE latest full frame model from Canon. And higher end products don't get replaced that fast anyway. They have much longer life cycles compared to entry level models.

ISO1600 on 450D like phone quality? It's pretty much usable imo

hi guys..

lets say i wanna get a 500d, but i dont want to use the 18-55mm kit lens... for the same category (standard zoom iinm) and similar focal length what would be the best lens? any brands.. it'll be better if it defers only a few hundreds.. tongue.gif
*
What's wrong with the 18-55 IS? For what it's worth, it's a decent lens.

If you are looking for something which differs by a few hundreds (dunno what's your definition of a few hundreds here) .... chances are, there's not much to look at.
If you can stretch your budget to around 1k, some of the standard zooms available are the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non VC / Sigma 18-50 f2.8
Oh and Sigma does produce a 17-70 f2.8-4.5 but you will lose out on the IS which can be helpful on the tele end.. There is a newer version with IS but then that will stretch your budget even more.

Well, you will be the one deciding on what you intend to shoot and where. If you know you'll be needing stuff like the constant f2.8 aperture then go for it.

If not, it would be better to stick to the 18-55 IS. Plus, it does have IS which is quite a nifty feature considering the price you are paying for the kit lens. Another advantage being that it is actually much lighter than its fast standard zoom counterparts.

Ultimately, it all comes down to what you really need. (But as goldfries pointed out, most of us won't really know what we need when we start off haha)

Lol.... even the 580EX II can have inconsistent TTL at times. But that is due to contact issue. You know, sometimes when there's "dirt" or whatever in the contacts and the camera's hotshoe contact, it can cause the TTL to go haywire.

Talking about this kind of contacts, today after I transferred my shots from my SDHC and put it back to my camera, it shows something like no memory card is inserted, took out and reinsert again, then no issue. Tested few times and only the second insertion works...
Terkejut I, I thought my memory card is spoilt already, took it out and rubbed it with eraser, then reinserted it again and tested for few times, it works charmingly now...
Hopefully I don't need to send back for warranty...

tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC sound good

anyone use this lens before?

If you are going to use it on a crop.. 28mm is not going to be very wide.. It's almost close to 50mm (35mm equiv)

Pic spam..

Some Siggy 30mm poison .. Had it attached to my cam the whole time cuz i lent my Tammy 17-50VC to my friend to use, else i would be reluctant to actually "shoot properly" with it laugh.gif

did u try a shot wif f1.4 n c how is d sharpness?

I have shots at f/1.4 but will prolly upload them later...

Though I suspect that my 40D's outer AF point is abit cacat.. The ones on the extreme left and right, tends to misfocus somehow.

Sigma 30mm at f/1.4.. Can see purple fringing in this kind of shot due to the high contrast area between the background and subject

great pic. I don't really see the fringing, so its still potent poison in my opinion  thumbup.gif

Thanks.

QUOTE(vikingw2k @ Dec 4 2010, 02:01 AM)
Frankly speaking, the purple fringing is pretty common in big aperture lenses hence one shouldn't be too particular about it unless it's too distracting. smile.gif
*
Yeah, and lightroom does help in removing part of it. DPP has a function called color blur under CA correction which helps too but only if you shoot in RAW.

I have another shot where the PF is more obvious because the bright light background area is directly behind the subject's head.
Still better than the 85 f/1.8 at least, in my books =p

Have you tried playing around with the sharpness settings under Picture Styles? I set to to as high as 5 on my 40D as the default settings aren't sharp enough for my liking.
