blacktrix ! you rock ! that's a great idea you just had. did you do all the scratch sounds, or were some already there ? The intro for instance, is it you ? (I dun think so, but I can be sure)
It reminds me of what Van Halen used to do : pop songs revisited by a furious metal guitar.
Your end solo lacks a bit of a kick, except the last part of it, which i like smile.gif And regarding the whole rythm part, you could have push it even more into the "heavier" hell with more PM, in a pantera style... arrrrgh. poor hillary duff laugh.gif One part I like also is the one harmonic note played repeateously during the "break". It lifts the atmosphere by one notch, that's cool.

I wanted to ask for the original mp3, but it's forbidden to ask that kind of stuff here. (yes, that's also a reminder to you guys)

btrix, thx for the PM laugh.gif
another thing i noticed : duff can't sing !! she has no "voice"... but i bet she has enough lung capacity though, knowing blacktrix's tastes (i've never seen her myself...)

btw, today i have lunch in the same restaurant than Miss Tahiti 2005... wooow.. she's SO HOT.

btrix, nice one you got here ! i'm suprised by your choice of 3rd chord... and no 4th chord ? that's weird, and a bit disturbing. Why didn't you follow the bass line ?

You had great ideas overall, but I find it hard to hear your guitar solos, especially towards the end, where you're starting to build stuff (well, by stuff, i mean pings and pentatonic runs wink.gif ) on top of the rythm. You could have spread the stereo a bit... dunno.

And the way you play the rythm is totally different than the way I usually do it : you do this Chung-chaaaaaaah.. Chung-chaaaaaah, that's fun, I'll try that smile.gif And at 2:30, your natural harmonics are freaky !! And you use the wah at some points, that's cool too because it's quite rare. Mine should be finished this week end... I just got a little puppy three days ago, so no time to play guitar yet (he's peeing and pooing all over the place laugh.gif it's like having my own led zep at home tongue.gif ) .

blacktrix... once you do a song, you should sitck to one version only, it's exhausting to hear many versions of one song laugh.gif just move on and do another song wink.gif

HH7, just listened to the song finally...
Jemi has been really nice to you actually laugh.gif

Your guitar is not tuned !!! there are dissonances everywhere... com'on, respect your listeners and do songs with a perfectly tuned guitar... where a E is a E and so on...

The solo is a bit out most of the time also, but I can't say if it's because of the bad tuning or a wrong choice of scale..

Good thing : I would have liked the arpeggios main theme, if it wasn't for the tuning. I usually like those moving chords on static melody, very efficient and catchy.

wtf ?!? I posted a whole reply earlier, but it disappeared !?!
nvmind.
I was saying that your producer's skills and your voice were amazingly good. I especially like the way you overdubbed layers of voices, very airy.
Now, about the composition, the bass is overwhelming and repetitive, and so is actually the whole structure of the song. You could have introduce more exotic breaks into this linear beat. But that's part of the RnB thinggy : the repetition makes the track "easy listening", and you can target a wider, less demanding audience I suppose.
Hands up anyway, that's a nice track, with a very professional touch, all ready for radio broadcast. But it's the kind of songs you listen once and forget...

what about "poom-chak poom poom chik a boom... chuga-chuga-chuga" ?
of course, that'd work only for japanese lyrics.

MetalHead : errr....
playing one note every two seconds ? i'm sure you can do better than this... and also... what critic do you expect ? you could have add a rythm background, you could have overdub the theme with a octave or a fifth second guitar, you could have played the theme with all bends and slide, adding some effects..but you didn't do any of these. so there's not much to comment about.

so which ever your technical abilities (which were okay last time I heard), only one thing strikes my mind : LAZY !

Huzai :
pretty good !!
i'll go to the critics directly, because praises won't bring you much, and that's not my style biggrin.gif i divide the song in 3 parts
1) the keyboards in the 2nd part are not blending well with the metal guitar rythm
2) the rythm guitars in the 3rd part are very good, but maybe a bit too "deaf", too deep ? I like it though ... yet.. i dunno, maybe a more biting in them wouldn't hurt ? just suggesting.
3) in 3rd part again, i feel like the end of the riff (with the superb 'arythmic' lick) there's a little mixing-mistake, it's like i can hear a "blank" or "track transistion" that is not super clean.

now let's talk about Pod... which settings do you use ? pleeease laugh.gif i'm dying to find such a deep metal sound. which guitar / pickups / pickups position are you using ? thx if you mind to share...

ebp > you composed that alone in front of your computer ? that really is creative, i like all the different riffs and how you make them all flow from one to the next one, without loosing the spirit and the energy. The rythm tracks are efficient and catchy, giving plenty of "clean" space for the guitar (= one wouldn't be distracted by the rythm parts, just sheer enjoying it smile.gif ), and it's cool to hear all those keyboards/guitar layers bits all over the stereo space, reminds me of Engines Of Creation (Satriani). The "00:29" melody of the guitar in the middle part is exactly that : a great melody, with a perfect timing (for my ears... on a techno track, it's a must to fall RIGHT ON the beat, cuz the beat is so square and in-your-face ...). overall, you also have a great sense of making your solo sounds interesting, creating "harmonic" twists.

Now the less-than-great parts... the "background" stereo spaceship bit starting from 00:29 is a bit loud, and therefore distracting. The guitar sound is good, but it could have been better. It might be too "rock n roll" for that kind of theme ? Of course that's just MY opinion. It's hard to define exactly what should be the perfect sound here, but I would imagine it to be more processed, and smoother ? And maybe a bit more mids ? To give a reference, what about "Jemi's typical sound" laugh.gif the last thing... the fast strumming guitar at the start is a funky idea, but "I feel" the second strum doesn't fall where it should, it's off the beat, and off the off-beat too, so it's disturbing. I'm a total failure when it comes to rythm, so possibly I'm all wrong here and I should just go home and listen to a metronom longer... biggrin.gif

Anyway... refreshing, groovy, catchy blended with good technics on guitar and mixing... any chance you come around tahiti for a concert ? laugh.gif

some bass experiment with the new pod xt software... to be listened on big speakers or headphones, otherwise you won't hear the bass frequencies.

thanks led zep, it's very nice for you to say so smile.gif (i'm in a soft mood today, don't be scared)

regarding the bass, it's a new octaver effect on the pod v3, very very very interesting... I just love to do funky bass lines, so that's a great way for me to record them until i get a real bass...

oh... the mode... the best of them all biggrin.gif
the blues scale !!!
with extra notes from the ionian scale, and small chromatic slides. Basically, loads of crap laugh.gif I'm really glad you like my style wink.gif

There is a small variation in the middle of the song, i change from A blues scale to the F# blues scale... it doesn't last long though.

You think the bass sound is ok ? it's too "deaf" and bassy for me... i'll try other settings later... you can't even hear it on average speakers, can you ?
