iliveunderwater > it's what a guitar solo is about... no ? I mean.. you can solo in the lower octave if you want, but it won't sound so outstanding from the backing track. It's quite hard to make a good mix with "low" solo (that's my opinion) and make it sound soulful for quite a while, esp. while improvising (still my opinion).
However, I did start around the 5th fret for the solo, but that's because I'm naturally outstanding tanton82, yes, obviously, we are just joking. And no, i'm not that mature. I mean, I will probably never be that mature and reach a place of mind where I won't ever joke about a government anymore... And Evo.Com sarted it all... booooh |

i'll dl it tonight.. can't wait ! thx jemi
(panning : you can choose the position of your sound within the stereo space... 20% left, 40% right, etc... the extreme right would be 100% right, whereas a center sound would be 0%.) This post has been edited by Pix: Nov 24 2005, 09:57 AM |

evo.com > don't worry, I found your post really funny, and that was the whole point
jemi, dling now... iliveunderwater, i don't understand your remark. we might not be superb players (except for me, that is), but yeah, it's what we call solo. I wouldn't mind if someone played some violins or piano... Ooooh, maybe you didn't get the whole point of the song ? sorry then/... let's recap. Someone posts a backtrack (drums, bass, rythm), and each of us here are planting a 1-minute solo on top of it.. So at the end you have a backtrack with 6 solos (or more) stick to each others... |

jemi > Too bad you're so far on the left
you have plenty of ideas, but not enough time to devellop them, next time i hope you'll have longer bit. oooh, for instance, that vibrato "diving" action is really inspiring, but cut short. grrr. blacktrix, hey, it's a weird feeling : it's like i'm hearing myself, with additional pings ( and after few more years of practise, i must confess) all in all, i can hear in jemi and blacktrix's parts more tireness than with the other dudes (I was dead-fingered also, but i was going much slower that you two, so I can't hear it that much). |

yes, some of us not living in m'sia... (to know which ones : all the ones which are joking about m'sian government...
but mostly, it's because we're all very afraid of each others. and because it's hard to find a studio that can bear with 15 noisy punks like us |

hi animesan,
the overall sound is a bit messy, i wonder whether the low freq. are too loud ? the composition is good, incl. rythm / melody / groovy, and your fruity loops track doesn't sound too de-humanized. regarding the guitar, i think your sound is too "weak", there's not enough punch for a lead guitar. Try amp settings with less bass and more mids ? i dunno... experiment. You have really good ideas for the guitar solo, a mix of soulful melody with lightning fast licks. I like it ! Sometimes though, it's not clean enough. |

savio, don't be modest, you play very very good piano, especially knwoing that you compose those tracks... franckly, that's impressive ! (i just heard almast) it's true it's a bit "music lift's style", but you master it pretty well. If you play live as good as on the tracks, you should go for live performing in hotels (you know, they propose some background piano during cocktails).
I didn't listen to other track, cuz slow connection... |

Jemi... what to say about you...
you're playing furious solos, they sound very "clean". Your whole playing is clean... The sweepings ? Woaw... very impressive. A bit too much of them for my taste though The "bluesy" parts (stratospheric bends, pentatonic licks, artificial/pinched harmonics) are really awesome, but slightly too "mechanical" and perfect. The start noises sound like satch stuff, a little bit. Satch has a way to make those kinds of intro very "interesting", original and leading to something. Here it lacks that "leading to something" approach. I'm dreaming too of doing such purposeful intro, as the master does... but it's just too hard for me Guitar sound is good in the beginning (very "old" satch), then the solo sound is typical from Jemi, Ssslayerr and friends... cold and sharp, ultra-compressed... pouuuuark. To end that very mean critic : there's no ending to the solo... it does finish at 1:32 correct ? You still stuck in a flashy alt. picking run on the low frets... Well, your solo is already at "pro" level, you've got your style, the ideas, the crazyness, the technic... i'm totally blown away. That's why i'm doing such rough & raw critics : that's the only thing i can give you |

jemi, that wasn't a tricky question.. i genuinely wonder if you (or anyone else) like to hear himself playing. I'm like you, when i record myself, i have a big grin on my face when i hear what i can play ... sometimes> But other times, i feel like i'm so sloppy
i re-listen to your song... i'm less enthousiastic than the 1st time : now that i can hear exactly your guitar. sometimes, you don't nail the note you 'should' (you know... you bend a note to reach one of the notes used in the next chord, or you end a run, or a legato, on such notes) i.e. 0:53. On the opposite, during your intro, you're nailing them perfectly ! And i'm happy because now i could hear the little flaws during your sweepings or alt. pickings. It makes it more human Overall, you have great ideas to make your solo 'dynamic', your solo is constantly evolving in weird ways. That's your strength. And you have a melodic strength too, cuz you manage to show that you're trying to follow some kind of natural flow... (am i clear ?) But IMO, you have to work on that : be more lay-back during your slow phrases, in terms of tempo. Make it more soulful... and in the fast runs, try to reach those fjooking 'harmonic' notes You have great potential, after only 4 or 5 years of playing, is it ? Amazing dude.. very mature. |

headhunter7, just listened to your song, apart from very simple recording stuff and some awful noise at some point, the whole thing is pretty catchy ! rythms are heavy, you're in synch with the drums, it's not too repetitive. is it a compo or from which artist is that ?
just one more thing, the drums cymbals do sound a bit "cooking pan" like |
