That one gonna be a little difficult as he's one of those that thinks solids are complementary unlike otherwise. Only thing is getting facts abt it...from doc or articles.

I know that my son poo quite often when he was newborn...compared to formula fed babies...this also indicates that the baby is getting sufficient bm.

QUOTE(qarezma @ Aug 9 2011, 09:28 PM) can i have some OT ranting here? my mom's been making noise abt me taking fruits (direct from fridge) and drinking normal temp water, and not wearing sweater to bake myself in sweat, etc... is it true that if we dont follow these pantangs we will get body aches later? its not like my mom is without any problems.. even tho she might hv followed them.. lol my ex-manager...she's 50 yrs old...i asked her about confinement..and she told me that she didn't follow at all when she delivered her daughter..many many years ago...and she said she feels fine...surprisingly for a chinese lady from that era..she didn't follow.. in regards to body aches when older..isn't it a sign that we are just getting older..rather than the affects of not going thru a proper confinment practice? I didn't use any sweater..coz it was damn blardy hot...socks...just at night...drank warm water..which has been cooled...and fruits...hmmm..i ate like normal...straight from the fridge..

you can buy fenugreek seeds (biji halba) from supermarket...at the spice shelf.
Then you boil 1 tsp of the seeds with 1 cup of water. Let it boil for about 1 min or 2...the water will turn into yellow tinge. strain the seeds and drink the water while it's still warm. do this twice a day.

Stupidbump...yeah..try direct bf. If it doesn't go away in a couple of days...I suggest seeing the doc soon rather than waiting for 2 weeks as it can become painfully unbearable (though I've never experienced before, I've heard from my sil that her friend required a minor surgery).

Aiyo...pls remember CL don't rule your life. I went out during my confinement...to see the doc coz of my stitches. If hv to go...hv to go...coz if don't it might be worse (if lump don't go away or becomes severely painful)...as this can also hinder your intentions of bf coz scared of the pain.

Dear StrawberryGirl...what do you mean by milk doesn't want to come out? is it right after delivery? Coz milk will only come in like..about 5 days after delivery...and some women takes about a week.
Sore nipple can mean bad latching...which can in turn causes blocked duct as baby don't know how to suckle properly yet.
When did you try pumping? if it's during the first few weeks to a month...about 3oz is considered good! Please don't assume that when you pump...it's like lots and lots of milk (like a cow for example). BF is just not as simple as you think..though it may look simple..but it takes lots of effort and hard work for most mothers.
My advise...If you are planning for another child and would like to give breastfeeding a go again...please read and gather more information.
Neither do i want to pour cold water on you...but bf takes lots of hard work and determination.

QUOTE(StrawberryGirL @ Aug 16 2011, 12:29 PM) even after 5 days my milk are less.. i try pump very hard then only can get 3oz in a day. this is consider very less already.. as you know baby have to drink every 2 or 3 hrs. my daughter can't able to suck the nipple probably. im having a second child now and i hope this time i would able to gain more milk. i know bf is kinda hard work it is not a easy job too.. making very frustrated sometime. some mother can have a plenty of Breast milk but some might have less too. I agree that some moms have lots of milk...which i envy...coz i had to work very very hard to increase and maintan my supply. I think the problem to begin with is the latching. It's very very important that your baby latches on well. furthermore...baby tends to empty the breast better than pump (if baby latches on well). And...pumping is never a real indication of how much milk that you have...coz again..baby is better at getting the milk out. 2ndly, during the first month..to establish your supply...it's best to direct bf. If you REALLY REALLY WANT TO TRY BF...i suggest go going for a class...by Gina Yong. Lots of women have benefitted from it. I didnt' go as I never knew about her (until after about 4 months after i delivered). If i had..i would have gone and got better knowledge and preparation. ALWAYS REMEMBER..TO INCREASE MILK...YOU GOT TO HAVE DEMAND..MORE DEMAND..MORE SUPPLY...NO DEMAND..NO SUPPLY.

qarezma...what celestra and nicKit say is right...breast will feel soft and tender. As for the time..as you baby is still learning...15-20 mins (or more) would be good enough time for him to get the hind milk...however, like nicKit said..try not to time your bf.
How's bf going on now?
Added on August 18, 2011, 9:07 amoh..yes..even though we say that baby can empty the breast...it doesn't mean it's totally empty...our breast continuously produces milk.

Qarezma....I think u are doing a great job! Even though u said that u cheat (for a good reason)....at least...you r still giving bm. Coz I think in your case...if u fully give attention to new baby, sanju may feel left out.
U can pump after u skip the feed that your mom gave fm. So that body tells that there is demand.
As for supply...usually it will increase naturally when baby grows (coz they demand more and able to suckle better to empty breast); however...some have to work harder to make sure it increases.

hehehehe...unfortunately..i can't advise as my son still treats me as a pacifier ...awake or not..and when he's bored I do find it exhausting at times..but i also find it a joy as it's our bonding time.

Xander bit me occasionally...saw stars! But I scolded him in a firm way and told him if bite no milk. And I didn't feed him till he behaves. usually I know when he's going to bite..coz he'll look at me with a glint in his eye...hehehe...then I'll warn him.
Even till now...he'll like try to bite...I warn him...and the he bites my baju instead.

U hv to sterilize your pump just like how you'd sterilize your bottles.
I've not tried the pumping method you mentioned above...and not sure if it can get the hindmilk. For me I pump until I get 2nd or 3rd letdown (found out only later in my pumping days).

Xander was a small drinker...so his consumption was according to his month...1 mth- 1oz, 2mths -2oz. I wish I cd have pumped more than that.

Xander really uses me as a pacifier nowadays...he would just pop my nipple in his mouth..and lie on top of me..with no suckling movements.
