AMD Radeon HD 6970 benchmark numbers leaked?
By Jose Vilches, TechSpot.com Published: October 27, 2010, 10:48 AM EST AMD might have just launched the new Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 graphics cards a week ago, but many are already looking forward to the company's real high-end offering: the Cayman-based Radeon HD 6970. We don’t expect the new cards to hit stores until sometime next month, but Chinese-language site Zol.com claims to have got its hands on a sample and has posted some benchmark results for the world to see. The site’s numbers cover both 3DMark Vantage and the Unigine Heaven benchmark, with the Radeon HD 6970 allegedly scoring 23,499 on the first one while delivering 36.6fps on the Unigine benchmark running at 1920 x 1,080 with 4x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filtering. By comparison, a GTX 480 on the same platform scored 21,106 in 3DMark and ran Unigine Heaven at 29.5fps, while an HD 5870 managed 19,337 and 17.3, respectively. Going by these numbers it looks like AMD’s upcoming card will bring a 10% performance improvement over Nvidia’s flagship card, the GTX 480, while boasting around 20% greater performance the Radeon HD 5870 it’s replacing. With the Radeon HD 6870 putting on an impressive show, we're definitely looking forward to see how the new Cayman-based Radeon cards perform. For now, though, we’ll take this leak with a grain of salt. Source Sounds promising.. This post has been edited by Smackers: Nov 12 2010, 01:22 PM |

QUOTE(Nosferatu @ Nov 17 2010, 01:38 AM) haha yeah the reason I wanted to install 10.10e hotfix (my first time installing a cataylst hot fix It happened too to my friend's desktop pc which i recently custom build it with a HD 6870.when i 1st saw it on windows live messenger 2011,i was like WTF....went to smoke for 5mins then suddenly thought about the MLAA could be the culprit. When to off it at Catalyst CC and woila, So far I like it, but since its a post-processing method, I see a lot pixel popping when there are a lot of movements. In screenshots/idling, it looks great. The only problem with MLAA is that it will mess up your IE, FF4 beta and WLM2011. It will turn out fuzzy, like water spilled on ink like this ![]() I had this happened to me on my WLM2011. The only way I fixed it was uncheck MLAA in Catalyst then close and relaunch WLM2011:) |

QUOTE(Clem1982 @ Nov 30 2010, 03:54 PM) They should standardise the cooler sockets/mounting on GPU the same way they did on mobos so that aftermarket coolers could fit on just any card....same way as CPU coolers nowadays Agree big time.they just really need to do that.AMD should lead the way since they are more towards backward compatibility and value for consumers |

I bought it for Rm749 from C-Zone.it was the last of the last unit.Viewnet,ALL IT and other shops no longer have stock for this model. Idle temps is at 46'C but if u notice my pics,i have a soundcard directly below the GC.
The fan is indeed loud if it's running at high speed.Am using default 10.10e AMD drivers. This post has been edited by Smackers: Dec 7 2010, 12:27 AM |

Well,i havent really tried anything particular except FurMark which could really run up the temps.but apparently Catalyst isnt controlling the fan properly.i think i need to experiment with Sapphire TriXX for Fan control.
Currently 44"C with 22% fan. Added on December 7, 2010, 12:35 amYeah i thought i was buying a card with reference cooler, but skali the sales person open the box for me.woila...look abit like VaporX though. Added on December 7, 2010, 12:36 amI think my soundcard is block airflow to the GC oso le. This post has been edited by Smackers: Dec 7 2010, 12:36 AM |

QUOTE(Racerx @ Dec 7 2010, 12:51 AM) 32% is too low, plus your soundcard is definitely blocking the airflow of the HD6870. I can watch 480p h264mkv file using Shark 007 Win7 codec WMP 12 without any problems.btw,do you watch anime?Do you have any that is a 480p h264 mkv file?IF you do please try playing it with Klite codec pack/Media player classic [DXVA turned on].I wanna know if UVD3 fixes the SD DXVA corruption. |
