I'm a newbie here. Thought wanted to get some support and info on breastfeeding and breastpumps.

Juanny, thanks for the suggestions on cheap breastpumps!

Was blogwalking, saw this one blog, quite cheap as well: mykedaibaby.blogspot.com

Same, can pay instalment as well.

But I think breastpumps, esp electric ones - are too bulky!! sad.gif

hi, yea..those double electric one looks bulky but the medela freestyle is not! and if you are full time working mummy, really suggest you go for double electric pump as it is really saves your time. imagine, you want to pump at work. each breast takes you at least 10-15 mins. if you use double u can finish pumping by 15 mins, then u have to wash your pump and dis-assembly your pump, so total about half hour compared to if single electric which takes you 15 mins EACH breast..pumping time alone already taking you 30mins not including washing your breastpump parts.. sweat.gif

yea..most of the blog selling cheap and good breastpump at affordable price including me! rclxm9.gif choose wisely ya!

I will be having my first child in March. But I am still looking and confused to buy a milk pump. This is because some of my friends suggested to buy a cheap brand first. Because they said I need to wait and c my milk production.
Actually i was interested on Medela free-style, but it is quite expensive and I worry i wont able to use it effectively.
Please give me some opinions..

Added on January 12, 2012, 3:58 pmI want to go to BF class .. how can i do that ? Any hospital suggestion? How much is the cost ?

There's a breastfeeding thread here. Go check the thread out to read about our experiences - high's and low's.

if you want to go for BF class, i'll suggest going for Gina Yong's class. Lots of mommas benefited from her class.

All mommies can produce milk..it all depends if you are determined to do it.

Please dont listen to your friends to "wait and see". Cheap pumps will not extract milk much, thus leading you to think that you dont have enough milk. If you're really interested in buying a good pump, get a Avent manual pump or Medela Harmony.

There's a BF class by Ms Gina Yong. I think other forummers are more familiar with her. You can check out our breastfeeding support thread instead.

dont trust cheap brand. cheap brand does not able to help you to stimulate the milk flow and unable to help u to extract the milk in a comfortably way and end up you will give up.
and all mums are capable to breastfeed and it is just a matter you WANT or DONT WANT. it is all about your determination and how far you willing to sacrifice your "valuable" time for the sake of your little one. rolleyes.gif

as for breastpump, no doubt medela freestyle is the best but there are few people selling online at cheaper price including me. if you interested, pm me and i am willing to share more with you. smile.gif
as i am selling breastpump and now i am telling you from my experience, lots of chinese mummy are not willing to buy breastpump. but malay WILL. chinese mummy i encounter will always give lots of excuses such as, work commitment (hey, i encountered a mummy who her work requires her to travel, she too bring her freestyle wherever she goes!!), worry no milk (not relevant to me.. sweat.gif ), worry unable to breastfeed long (really depends on your determination and if you are willing to), etc, etc...

and first time mummy...relax is the key. dont give urself too much pressure on breastfeeding. once give birth, ask the nurse to teach you how to nurse your newborn. and dont give up. smile.gif

Not to be racist but most Malay Muslim moms will try to breastfeed their kids because our prophet had 2 milk mommies because his mother didnt have enough milk. It just shows the importance of human milk, having a milk mom, eventhough there were abundance of goat milk around.

When I was studying, I carried my FS and cooler bag everyday and pumped in the surau in between classes. Now they have a proper lactation room and proper fridge and proper chair for me to sit biggrin.gif

lol...yea..
family support is important too. last time my aunt told me to stop breastfeeding after 2 months as im going to work then. I said, the problem now lies with me and im choose to breastfeed and myself not complaining, why you?? mad.gif
second...my MIL who will be taking care my little one after i go back to work after confinement (taking care daytime) also suggested me to mix with formula milk. i just put deaf ear loh (cant hentam balik mah... sweat.gif ). in order to avoid my MIL to feed my little one with formula, i returned all 4 tins of formula milk (which i bought for standby) back to the store. sweat.gif but soon, my MIL also get use to it la. thumbup.gif

I intend to sell my spectra 7 if interested pls pm. I started with Avent manual but decided to invest in an electric seeing that i bf my first for close to a year. Comes with all accessories for double pumping as well as 6 storage bottles. Bf for 9 months already n agree with some of posters above..invest in a reasonably good pump if you're serious about breastfeeding. It's a matter of if you WANT to not if you can or not icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes it is definetly important to buy a good pump (Specially Electric) cos I have 1 or 2 friends who gave up on pumping and BF due to using a manual pump. Manual not good enuf for hardcore pumping mommies!

I think u guys should consider 1st year double electric miPump

Rather decent for the price and the cup is a silicone like material, hence apparently my wife says its way more comfortable than most other models out there

i used pureen breastpump on my 1st child, and it really hurts when the suction start, cannot tahan lah sweat.gif . no wonder i only breastfed her for 3 months, also with my mum n husband discouragement towards breastfeeding.

with my 2nd child, i refuse to take any advice from them, and try my best to breastfed him. i bought medela mini-electric dual pumping at RM700++ and it was a correct decision. i breastfed my son till 2 yo rclxms.gif and now am planning to breastfed my 3rd child that due to arrive this august thumbup.gif

oh, and i think i save a lot. for example my 1st child drink Nestle-Nan cost around RM40 x 4 box per month= RM160. for a year RM160x 12 months=RM1920. takkan lah your child drink milk just one year, for sure 2 or 3 years. and how about if u use more expensive milk? btw, breastfed babies are more healthier.

for my 1st child, i spend about RM600-milk, diapers and nursery. the 2nd one not much, around RM300, because i breastfed and cloth diapering, the rest of his peruntukan i put in his Tabung Haji account. biggrin.gif . now he have almost as much as mine rclxms.gif

battery operated breast pumps are indeed far more expensive than manual breast pumps.
