anyone using a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card (successfully) on Ubuntu 8.10?

i've installed the driver & i did get sound working after that using the OLSA option, but the subsequent day(s) when i booted up to Ubuntu, i didn't get any sound at all on the OLSA option (in fact, got an error msg instead when i tried to test it). when i swopped to the OSS option, there's sound, but it sounds absolutely horrible with a lot of static & distortion.

oyah...fyi, this is my 1st time trying out a Linux OS  blush.gif

you've installed it or running livecd?
