QUOTE(Redcross @ Oct 22 2010, 11:59 PM) Doing a video project tomorrow. That's why I quickly go DIY the dead kitten But hotshoe shotgun mic not very good la. The better way is to record separately with a preamp and then sync in post. Right now there's a lot of background hiss cause of the lousy built in amp in the 5D2. But for now this would have to do la. |

QUOTE(Redcross @ Oct 23 2010, 12:11 AM) video project for college? Yup. It's an assignment. Ooooo, how much wud a wireless sound transmitter/reciever cost? sure more expensive right? Yeah a really good audio solution costs quite a lot. And then there's the support systems, focus follow systems, other accessories for filming which sums up to a bomb |

QUOTE(Redcross @ Oct 23 2010, 12:20 AM) those are like setting up a video rig already weh.... Yeah, for those who are serious in shooting videos with the current HDSLRs. juz a sound transmitter/receiver shud do the job already. like the ones those Digital Rev peeps uses But by contrast, even after buying all the accessories, it's still cheaper then a full fledged professional video camera. Which is why many are using HDSLRs to shoot videos nowadays QUOTE(DecaPix @ Oct 23 2010, 12:20 AM) er.. i think you already know the answer? My ex-40D's grip shutter button failed too. Had it replaced at Canon for RM50 problem is it's dead just send to Canon for replacement? but seldom hear ppl complain grip button dying though |

IMHO an external flash is important. If you can master the light, all your photos will turn out amazing, irregardless if you're using a kitlens or L lens

QUOTE(xLegato @ Oct 26 2010, 01:51 AM) +1. My sentiment exactly. Yup. Be a master of light and your images will be stunning. Too bad I'm still far far far away from mastering the light I once told my friends "I can do wonders with a flash" when they talked about the photos I took during a friend's performance (no flash allowed, obviously). They never believed it until I covered another event with extensive use of a flashgun. Nice 50 F1.2L! Btw wanna ask your opinion, how's the focusing @ F1.2 on the 5D/5D2? Especially the peripheral points. I find that I can never trust my peripheral points 100%. Even shooting at F5.6 with my 24-105 F4L it still can get OOF shots around 30% of the time, and not it low light, in decent lighting. Damn frustrated with the AF system on the 5D2. |

QUOTE(xLegato @ Oct 26 2010, 11:14 PM) I'll do more thorough tests in time to come. But I find my lens not suffering from too much of a forward/back focus issue at f/1.2. I don't have to do any AF microadjustment yet, as per my preliminary tests. I heard that with the new batches of the 50L (UY datecode) the focus shift problem has been minimized, or at least performs better then the older versions. I'll do more extensive tests with a tripod soon. Haven't done much with the peripheral points yet as well, so I can't say. But I echo your sentiment about the 5D2's AF system. Seriously, I can't rely on the 5D2's AF system other then the center point. Was doing a model shoot recently and was using the peripheral points and got tons of OOF shots. And that's with the 580EX2 as master+AF assist, shooting not at F1.2 but at F5.6 I'll never use the peripheral points anymore. Just stick to good old focus-recompose. QUOTE(nicotine @ Oct 27 2010, 12:33 AM) sifu pengster & xlegato, Walao don't call me sifu la. I'm a super noob. err are those peripherals AF point that sucky ? I don't really encounter serious focusing issue when pairing it with 70-200f4is, shooting @t F4 give me at least 95% sharp pic while the remaining 5%... hunting and OOF due to my parkinson hand I don't know la but that's my experience coming from a 40D. My ex-40D is more consistent on the focusing. On the 5D2, the peripheral points are not extra sensitive like the 40D's. When I shoot with the outer peripheral points, sometimes I can get sharp shots sometimes OOF. It's like every time I press the focus button it's a gamble. LOL. Maybe it's just my noob technique la. |

QUOTE(niwooe @ Oct 27 2010, 12:43 AM) I shoot wide open most of the time and I find little problems on the focusing with the OLD 5D. Weird to see that on the 5D2 I used the old 5D for quite some time before, and the focus is quite a hit and miss thing too. But one thing for sure, both the 5D and 5D2's center AF point is superbly accurate. |

QUOTE(ianho @ Oct 27 2010, 02:03 AM) Auto select when u know u want the car that's nearest to u. But when there's multiple subjects is when it get's interesting. U can tell cameras like the 1D how long to hold onto the subject before moving on to focus on the next thing. For example u focussing on car #1 but suddenly car #2 blocks ur view of car #1, the 1D is smart enough to predict n hold focus on the distance of car #1 so it doesn't just immediately jump to focus on car #2 just coz it's now in front. Once car #2 passes by n u can clearly see car #1 again, the 1D is still holding focus nice n sharp on car #1. It's all rather complicated until u get used to the camera. Aiyoo you're making me feel like getting a secondhand 1D2n/1D3 body laaa If ur aiming to shoot the middle of the pack then it's best to select ur own point. Added on October 27, 2010, 2:08 am Ah the link..... yes I added that coz lazy to do another thread. AF on the high end bodies can be trusted. U'll be surprised how easy it is to just let the 45 AF points run wild n do the job for u in AI Servo mode. That's if u have set the custom settings exactly to the way u like it. If shooting mid pack then that 1 really need to select. |

So what's your target for Jan 2011? 10-22? Yes, work first and you will have financial freedom but not until the extent that you have to eat grass everyday. At least like me eat bread. I wanna save more money for a better toy. 430EXII is already nice enough, a lot of nice deals in GS what. Now you make me feel guilty. Hahahaha. Cruel you. My ex-flash was having inconsistent power so thought of buying a flash ma, long term investment. UWA still not much into it, I'm trying to force myself to live with 17mm. |
