common misconception, pig is dumb.
pig is one of the smartest domesticated animals around. a pig pen gets cleaned minimum once per day. how many times does a cow gets washed down? |

I've always wanted a pet pig. A Pygmy Pig (i think that is what people usually have as a pet), they are amazingly cute. Also it is true that pigs are very intelligent. Pet pigs can learn tricks just like dogs (and some cats) and are actually very clean animals when given the choice.
I think a lot of people also keep pot bellied pigs as pets but Pygmys are the best... one day i will have one <3 This post has been edited by Divas: Oct 5 2010, 12:04 AM |

I highly doubt anyone breeds pigs as pets locally but I'd be delighted if I'm mistaken!
According to studies, pigs are more intelligent than dogs. I'd love to have a mini pig one day, perhaps if I migrate. Here's my fav pet pig video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvl2FNL0l7o Soooo cute! |

Pot belly pigs.
adult max size pics. ![]() QUOTE Pig as a pet general info Size The potbellied pig is a very sturdy animal with short legs, a slightly swayed back, a pendulous belly, a short tail ending with a flowing switch, short, erect ears, and a snout that varies from short and stubby to long and elegant. A potbellied pig continues to grow for at least two to three years. Current belief is that the average purebred (not crossbred), healthy, mature, three year old potbellied pig can weigh from 60 to 175 pounds and measure from 13 to 26 inches in height, with the length being proportional to the height. Certainly, there are a few potbellies who will be smaller or larger than this normal range. The weight of a pig is deceiving because they are so hard-bodied. A pig who measures 14" tall by 24" long and weighs 60 lbs. takes up very little space (about half the dimensions of an ottoman) and is a manageable size for a house pet and travel companion. Compare this size pig to a 100 lb. German Shepherd who is taller and longer than a coffee table, with an extension (the tail) that is capable of knocking everything off the coffee table. Granted, pigs are not as agile as the traditional dog or cat pet. A pig may need a ramp to assist in stair climbing and getting in and out of a car, but this is a simple task to accomplish. .... i totally forgot about the whole pigs thing here. damn.
Also pigs don't stink... not at all. Same as any other animal, if you don't bathe your pig, he will stink. If you don't bathe your dog/cat he will stink. If you don't bathe yourself you will stink. byaku-chan - SO CUTE!!! <3<3<3 I can imagine a pig fitting in so well with my Poodles and Papillon, lol. I can imagine the look on people's faces seeing us waling around (just people and the shock factor of seeing a mini pig walking with a pack of toy dogs, not trying to offend in any way or relating this to culture either). |

Oh i just read that mini-pigs are similar to teacup dogs.. not actually a distinct breed of their own apparently.
Think i will stick with potbellied then. Still adorable. <3 |

I wonder if they sell pot bellied pigs here. I've always been fascinated with them as pets. If you check out YouTube videos, you can see how interactive and inquisitive they are.

actually.... i dont think it wld b such a problem.......
if its a non-muslim neighbourhood.... and the pig is kept clean, doesnt smell, doesnt make noise etc.... the owner is resposible and doesnt cause a nuisance to neighbours.... dont simply bring out to public areas... i dont see a problem with keeping a mini pet pig. personally i am a Christian with a pet snake... my family members are super against this cos to them snake = devil, but they now tolerate it with condition that the snake cannot leave my room and i need to hide it from my other relatives. so... im sure with certain t&c and guidelines pet pigs could be allowed one day. i mean.... we can practice tolerance and have a non-halal corner in supermarkets, and have pig farms in Malaysia where pigs r bred for consumption.... so can this tolerance extend to having pigs as house pets? i think pot bellied pigs are awesome!! but i suppose.... dont go looking for trouble getting a pig when ur living in a muslim neighbourhood..... i think thats recipe for disaster... >< my both neighbours r muslim, and out of respect for them i dont get any dogs even tho i would really like to.....
