QUOTE(shy8629 @ Jan 4 2011, 02:32 PM) Did you try changing the "Title" after you add the book in Calibre? My problem is not in changing the title. I can change the title, no problem. The thing is, once I added the books in Calibre or kindle, the title revert back to the 1st sentence of the book. I just added 70 Agatha Christie's book. Imagine I have to open one by one trying to figure out what is the title of the book? You have to change the title first and only then transfer the book on your Kindle. However, before that, make sure that you have deleted the book that you previously added on the device first or else, I don't think it will work. Another question. We can manage our books by creating new collection in the kindle. can we do this through pc by connecting it to the kindle? Meaning, if I add a new folder using the pc, would it be the same as creating a new collection in kindle? |

We can manage our books by creating new collection in the kindle. can we do this through pc by connecting it to the kindle? Meaning, if I add a new folder using the pc, would it be the same as creating a new collection in kindle? You see, the Kindle reads the metadata files which determines the title of the book. Need to look for where this links to and I cant replicate the problem without actual problem samples To your second question, I believe you would not be able to do so. Same reason, its via Metadata. Metadata is loosely defined as data about data. If you see your collections in the Kindle, you would not be able to find them except for the weird string like Kindle:\.active-content-data\8a5b8dae2758322b01278815e4f20019, that string is the title of your collection, if you have 10 collections, you will have 10 complex numbers like that. Thus, per the rule of the data on the data on your kindle (your ebooks), youd not be able to create a collection directly. |

QUOTE(mr.anutta @ Jan 5 2011, 12:23 AM) thanks havocx for the kindle's useful tips...i have just converted them into *.prc file using mobipocket ebook creator. That's just Way Awesome buddy, ive copied it in. Cool that its also perserving the original links.give it a try. upload it to your kindle. Enjoy "Kindling" I like ! As a comeback too, here's another tip I think would be very useful for folks who have a lot of small font PDF files which are actually ebooks. Only catch is that your pictures (if any) wont undergo any conversion. Found this little utility Free Ease PDF to Text that will allow a conversion of text based PDF to only text. From there, the text can be converted to any ebook format, ie .azw, .prc or .mobi. Copy those in to your Kindle and voila, you now would have text from pdf that you can zoom in. Nice eh ? |

QUOTE(havocx @ Jan 5 2011, 09:45 AM) Would like to help but am requesting again some files to work with. havocx is definitely right about that. It would be much easier if we can see the file itself. You see, the Kindle reads the metadata files which determines the title of the book. Need to look for where this links to and I cant replicate the problem without actual problem samples I have had the same problem when I first transfer files to Kindle. So happened that the files didn't have the complete info in its metadata. All I did was key in the info manually on Calibre (Or you can also go to "Edit Metadata", enter the book ISBN and downloaded the info directly), reconvert, retransfer and the problem was solved. Again, it is still easier to see the file itself, just in case we didn't completely understand your problem or maybe the steps we explained was not completely clear. QUOTE(LanDi @ Jan 5 2011, 05:13 PM) Hmm now became more complicated since our kindle not yet arrive to Malaysia, so we still cannot do some experiment with the device. Heya there LanDi,I do understand your concerns but to me your comments are unfair. Consider these : 1. Before ordering you were already given a time frame that it would reach in about 12 working days. 2. 31st December and 1st December are non working days for most courier services. 3. It has only been 7 working days since payment was received, item is already being packed for shipping to Malaysia tonight. 4. Considering point 2, its only been 5 working days since payment was received. 5. You were also updated by dates on when an item is expected to arrive and given updates when they did. Per your PM to me, youre perhaps considering to be away and am worried that you would not be around at that time. The dates in which the Kindle's are expected to arrive is still within the 12 working days timeframe updated to you. Even if we counted Saturdays and Sundays, today is only the 8th day of the order. Can you help me understand how has it now suddenly been more complicated ? QUOTE(mr.anutta @ Jan 5 2011, 05:17 PM) Thanks buddy This post has been edited by havocx: Jan 5 2011, 06:04 PM |

A forummer had asked via PM if Kindle can run on MacOS, the Tiger not Leopard.
Ive asked for it to be asked via the thread, that way everyone else would benefit from the knowledge, he didnt ask on the thread still though but I thought Ill help out anyway. When you talk about Kindle, you have to reference it right, because you see, there is Kindle - The Device and there is Kindle - The App (Application). When you then talk about Kindle - The App though, then you gotta remember that there are various Kindle Apps. There are Kindle Apps for iPhone, PC, iPad, Android and MacOS. Having said that lets look at the main question above and answer it covering all possible angle. Can the Kindle can run on MacOS, the Tiger not Leopard? Kindle the Device can be run on any Macintosh: Mac OS X 10.2 or later. In this mode, the Kindle will be just like the other examples shown earlier, a medium to copy ebooks into it just like a PC. Once connected to the Mac it will show as another drive and files can be copied in. Reference Shown Here If you are talking about Kindle - The Application, that's a different story. To date, the Kindle application has only been available for Windows machines, which has made it slightly harder for Mac users to organize and manage their Kindle collection. Along came Kindle for Mac which also offers e-reader features, so you can access all of your e-book purchases, download and read them right on your computer. It’ll also sync the furthest location read with all Kindle devices registered to your account if you want, so that you can continue reading on your Kindle, iPhone or Mac without missing a beat. Unfortunately however the Kindle for Mac only runs on MacOS 10.5 or later. Here's a reference for it. Hopefully that has answered that query Let us know folks if you still have any others. # PS - Ask via the thread, that way the answer can be shared with everyone |

Wow...so many useful tips and info in here related to the Kindle. Thanks havocx and everyone else who contributed. I can't wait to receive the Kindle to try it out. Only thing is I wish all these useful info are all on page 1 so I don't have to go through 16 pages to find the piece of info when I need it. BUT I'm not complaining, just wishing LOL! Really appreciate greatly for all the updates and prompt replies from havocx. Excellent effort I'd say!

QUOTE(fluene @ Jan 6 2011, 03:58 PM) That it is ma'am, that it is. Enjoy Japan! Maybe we'll catch up again there too haha On another Note : Some folks have requested via PM that I show real examples of Chinese text on the Kindle and how its displayed. Just for them to be sure. So, you know I dont read Chinese right, thus unless some of you can actually send me examples of .mobi or .azw or .prc files or even .pdf files of your own I can show it here. Not knowing Chinese (so i dont know below if its really Chinese or just some form of Kanji) here are some samples : *PS - Dont laugh at the choices, quickest sample i can get from the net. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Hope those will be useful! |
