If lets say I want to transfer a certain document or files which are of compatible format with the Kindle such as PDF or TXT from my computer, can the Kindle connect to a laptop or a computer through 2.0 USB input?
*
Yes sir.
The Kindle connects via a Micro Usb cable (supplied in the package), its quite long too. The Kindle will also work as an external storage.
Just a few posts back there is a screenshot showing how the Kindle looks connected to the PC.

im interested in getting a few statues from amazon that can only be shipped to US address. Please let me know if you can do this service of ordering them and sending to Malaysia and to me. Please pm me your prices as well.

Thanks very much
*
Statues ? Sure, yes I can.
However if these are particularly heavy, perhaps I may suggest this be on a Bulk on its own.
It depends how fast these can be shipped over to my friends address, ie reaching the same time as the Kindle's to ensure
it will arrive at the same time and not to hold up the main shipment.
Remember also they will be shipped via DHL or Fedex Courier. Ill let you know on the quotes.
Let me know the links via PM. smile.gif

QUOTE(JC273 @ Dec 28 2010, 12:35 AM)
Lets say I need to take down some important notes, can I type in a document and save it in Kindle like how a laptop does with a notepad application?
*
So the answer is actually a yes and no.
Randomly no. So lets say youre reading and suddenly on the TV comes out the recipe for Curry Puffs and you want
to take it down, you cant. Nevertheless lets say youre reading a particular book, and a passage in the book says 'Go Forth and Multiply'.
You like the phrase and you want to mark it and add your notes on it, you can. If youre note so happens to be the Curry Puff recipe,
that is fine too. So the next time you want to see the Curry Puff recipe, you will need to pull out the book you were reading,
go to the passage that says Go Forth and Multiply and you will get the recipe.

Remember though the basic function of a Kindle, its an eBook reader. It will not have the snaziness of a laptop nor an iPad.
It however performs its basic function impressively well smile.gif

On the flipside, you could copy the text file of your notes and then later open it up in the Kindle that will work just fine too smile.gif

The Kindle comes readily equipped with two dictionaries: (1) Oxford Dictionary of English and (2) The New Oxford American Dictionary

p.s. Already on 5th Bulk!?! You really did a great job, havocx!  thumbup.gif

QUOTE(fluene @ Dec 30 2010, 10:22 AM)
Is there any way to systematically store the mp3 files and adjust the volume?
*
Unfortunately for now what I know at this time is that there is none for systematically storing. The mp3 playback is currently purely an additional
experimental feature of the Kindle. You could name your files with a number in front ie

1. Lady Gaga - Pokerface.mp3
2. Scorpions - Still Loving You.mp3

perhaps as an optional way forward.
As an ebook reader the mp3 playback is more to enchancing the reading experience of the users.
Probably with the developments going on, on the next release of the Kindle 3 Firmware, a better playback feature will come along nod.gif

user posted image

To adjust the volumes though, thats much simpler,

user posted image

Next to the Green Power button, underneath the Kindle, you will find the Volume Buttons, + for higher and - for lower volumes.
And it can get loud with the 2 speakers at the back. smile.gif
Hope that helped!

hi, im interested on kindle 3.. but i gt few question to ask abt kindle..
about the pdf files in kindle, i found that the font not adjustable, only able to zoom, am i correct?
if i convert the pdf into kindle format.. will it work perfectly on reading and displaying such that the font is adjustable ?
how about the pictures in pdf file after convert?
as u know, many pdf ebooks can be download illegally from website :-p
kindle only support english? i got come chinese pdf/chm files, if i convert to kindle, izzit readable?

Excellent queries, let me help you with them.

about the pdf files in kindle, i found that the font not adjustable, only able to zoom, am i correct?
You're absolutely correct. Now think of it, would you be able to increase the font displaying on your PC when youre reading .pdf files ?
Highly unlikely you would be able to. You would however be able to zoom in on the .pdf file to view them. Its the same concept really,
.pdf's are seen by various devices as another version of a picture, hence unless youre using Adobe Acrobat Suite, you wouldnt
be able to adjust the size of the fonts in a .pdf file on a computer nor the Kindle.

if i convert the pdf into kindle format.. will it work perfectly on reading and displaying such that the font is adjustable ?
Similar response to your query above. If its one where there are pictures or different sizes fonts in various formats like the one below

Sample One
user posted image

Sample Two
user posted image

Even after conversion, so font size changes cannot be done, simply, because just like in your computer, they are viewed as as Pictures,
instead of purely words. The conversion software that are currently available in the market, for any ebook readers will not be able to distinguish between
words and graphics.

Nevertheless, if its purely words formatted proper the conversion program will get it.

Sample Three
user posted image

The page above, the one on the left's font may be adjustable in the Kindle, however the second page, will not be as there are
graphics inserted within.

how about the pictures in pdf file after convert?
as u know, many pdf ebooks can be download illegally from website :-p

The are many legal PDF ebooks out there. Lets not talk about illegal stuff. For Pictures in PDF they display just fine.
Just like in the computer only in Black and White.

PDF files copy directly into the Kindle, no conversion needed. Actually the query is already covered before.
The answer is yes, Check Out This Post 254 for some sample pics.

Hopefully that's answered your query, let me know if you have more smile.gif

i was planing to buy one.. but i afraid the fonts size of my pdf will become too small n hard to read if i put inside the kindle..
another issue is if the width of the pdf is too large, then whenever i read, i hv to scroll left/right for every line in pdf  rclxub.gif  (especially after i zoomed for those small font size pdf)..
i faced the same problem in my pda.. scrolling left/ right will having some laggy issue and delay...

how about the chm file? if convert to kindle format, how it will look like? i got some chinese ebooks in chm format with the table of content..

Its unfortunate that you missed my reply.
Really, I do hope folks would help with researching themselves as well

i saw some folks buy the kindle with the screen protecter and case. how it work actually? am i given a list to choose or what?
*
No worries, so lets cover your query. Ive received your files, but they seem perhaps corrupted. Am only
able to open the first one on my machine hence thats the only one I converted. Perhaps Ill send you my email address later for you
to directly send over to me. So here it is :

This is the sample file of .chm youve sent over, opened in my PC.

user posted image

Converting it with the Auto Kindle Converter
you get it changed to .mobi format, one that Kindle reads.
Picture below is of the page highlighted in the PC.

Here's a picture of the same page but with a change in the font.
For .mobi files you can manually change the font without the need to zoom in.

To the next question you have, its easy, just like how shy8629 says and also posted on the first page,
You can choose any items you want from the Amazon store, even if youre not buying a Kindle unit,
it can be Anything from Amazon
Ill quote you a price for it to come along in my Kindle bulk. Once payment is collected, itll be ordered off from Amazon,
shipped to my colleagues home, collected with the other stuff there and sent over to Malaysia. On the same day,
it reaches my hand, it will be prepared for shipping or COD with you smile.gif

Got it buddy, am having trouble with it still though, perhaps its because its in a little different
format than the first one. Not being able to read chinese too is a problem.
Would you mind sending me a couple more samples to my email address?
That way ill have more files available for me to work on.
Just Chinese ones, will do or even Japanese, Korean ones if you read them.

Zad,
Using the files youve sent, Ive converted them on my machine and displayed them in the Kindle.
Just like PDF's they cant be rearranged, it looks a little funny but im guessing its because I dont have Chinese fonts installed
in my computer, hence when they are being displayed, it will look as how it will look on my machine.
These are .chm files converted to .mobi files.

Hope that helped smile.gif

QUOTE(JC273 @ Jan 2 2011, 07:27 PM)
I'm worried about the size of Kindle. I thought it was just slightly bigger than a phone and I could just slip it in and out of my pocket whenever I feel like it but it turned out to be bigger than I thought. So my next question is to all the Kindlers out there:

How do you bring your Kindle about as so not to lose it or to be an easy target for snatch thieves?

Also a few doubts to clear my head:
1.) Can you jump pages in Kindle?
2.) Can you bookmark a page in Kindle? If so, only one at a time or several?
3.) Can you read manga's or marvel comics in Kindle?
*
Youve got urm..very interesting questions. whistling.gif
So right, this 'Kindler' will help you out.

Lets first look at your worry. Remember, the Kindle is an ebook reader, hence for it to be one,
it should mimic and make the experience similar to that of a book. Not a lot of books will be 'a little bigger'
than a phone though and even if there's one, itll make reading that book, with its tiny font, to be maybe a little too much for the eyes.

How to not lose the Kindle and not make it an easy snatch theft target?
It would be the same care really that you would do to take care of your phone and your wallet, even your laptop.
You wouldnt want to be walking while reading now would you.
Who knows what other dangers would be out there other than just being a target for snatch thiefs.

That said though, it DOES fit into your back pocket smile.gif

That's a picture of the Kindle without the Official Amazon cover into my back pocket.
It also fits into my front pocket. Its small and slim enough to be very tough but very light at the same time.
Notice the picture on the Kindle.

user posted image

This now would be the various ways I would use to keep my Kindle safe.
The brown bag is mine, for my Kindle. The red is the wife's handbag.
If the bag goes missing, so will my Ipad, wallet, phone and various other stuff inside.
If my wife's bag goes missing, well...who in the world knows what's in a ladies handbag anyway smile.gif

user posted image

To your other queries :
1.) Can you jump pages in Kindle?
Yes you can, easily with the buttons on the left and right as well as directing the Kindle to jump 10 to even 300 pages ahead.
Or any page for that matter.

2.) Can you bookmark a page in Kindle? If so, only one at a time or several?
You can bookmark it as many times to your hearts content.

3.) Can you read manga's or marvel comics in Kindle?
Finally, that picture says it all, its not Manga and not Marvel,
but hey its Superman, from DC Comics smile.gif

Hope those helped! smile.gif

This happening to a lot of your books Fluene ?
Could you perhaps send me the sample PDF file youve used to convert it (source file)

You have to change the title first and only then transfer the book on your Kindle.
However, before that, make sure that you have deleted the book that you previously added on the device first or else, I don't think it will work.

QUOTE(fluene @ Jan 5 2011, 09:10 AM)
My problem is not in changing the title.  I can change the title, no problem.  The thing is, once I added the books in Calibre or kindle, the title revert back to the 1st sentence of the book.  I just added 70 Agatha Christie's book.  Imagine I have to open one by one trying to figure out what is the title of the book?

Another question.  We can manage our books by creating new collection in the kindle. can we do this through pc by connecting it to the kindle?  Meaning, if I add a new folder using the pc, would it be the same as creating a new collection in kindle?
*
Would like to help but am requesting again some files to work with.
You see, the Kindle reads the metadata files which determines the title of the book.
Need to look for where this links to and I cant replicate the problem without actual problem samples hmm.gif

To your second question, I believe you would not be able to do so.
Same reason, its via Metadata. Metadata is loosely defined as data about data.
If you see your collections in the Kindle, you would not be able to find them except for
the weird string like Kindle:\.active-content-data\8a5b8dae2758322b01278815e4f20019, that string
is the title of your collection, if you have 10 collections, you will have 10 complex numbers like that.
Thus, per the rule of the data on the data on your kindle (your ebooks), youd not be able to
create a collection directly.

That's just Way Awesome buddy, ive copied it in. Cool that its also perserving the original links.
I like ! thumbup.gif Plus thats something new I learnt too notworthy.gif

As a comeback too, here's another tip I think would be very useful for folks who have a lot of small
font PDF files which are actually ebooks. Only catch is that your pictures (if any) wont undergo any conversion.
Found this little utility Free Ease PDF to Text that will allow
a conversion of text based PDF to only text.

From there, the text can be converted to any ebook format, ie .azw, .prc or .mobi.
Copy those in to your Kindle and voila, you now would have text from pdf that you can zoom in.
Nice eh ? nod.gif
