We're leaking too many goals at the back..we are already doing well upfront..one thing i noticed is fletcher cant seem to ger up after a blunder or mistake that leads to goals.seems demoralized.

There are quite a number of our players who are not playing up to par & it may be among the reasons for the leakage in goals.Fletcher,O'Shea,Evans,Evra,Park & Rooney are important players & we need them to be in their best. Injury problems is also a worry.

Somehow I hope that Obertan & Rafael is undergoing a process like Nani did last season.Went missing in a couple of games, then when he finally shows up,he's in the form of his life.

can be champion with poor defence, provided the attack is damn strong and the attacking players need stay fit and on form whole season which not going to happen ...

and if meet chelsea/arsenal with this defence, sure lose by 2 goals ... liverpool did capitalise on it last week, 2 defensive errors by the defence.

Honestly, if you ask me, it's the switch to 4-4-2 for the tougher away games that has left the defence somewhat exposed. I mean, seriously, although Fletcher and Scholes have done well, we no longer have a midfielder to shield the back 4 consistently. Although the current defence is good, but a lot of the goals have been due to individual errors. To me, this is because getting constantly run at in 2 vs 2 situations will eventually yield errors. If they're not getting run at, they're conceding crosses/corners/free kicks and this team seems to be weak at defending high balls.

Having Rio back would help because of his organisational powers, but that would be fixing the symptoms instead of the root cause - opponents having too much space to make runs in a counter. Presumably, there are 2 options currently. Either find a way to make the team adapt and get used to being run at in a 4-4-2, e.g. reducing the runs made by the full backs so that 2 vs 2 are less likely to happen, or switch back to a 4-5-1 in the tougher matches. I duno ... unsure.gif

I think Rio will be back for the Valencia game. Put on Rafael or some1 to replace JOS please... looking opponents running on JOS makes my heart rate goes faster, he seems vulnerable doh.gif

Even our usual ever reliable Park has been below par for few matches now sweat.gif

I think we might revert back to 4-5-1 away @ Valencia this Wednesday Thursday morning. They are doing well in La Liga and they will looking forward to exploit our defense surely icon_question.gif

if that is the way we can cover up our leak(4-5-1), please then sweat.gif
the goal leak is getting more and more serious.. is it because vida is being too soft against his line? i dont see him shouting at defenders like ferdinand used to do.. that might be the cause of evans lapse of concentration sad.gif
anyhow, its either 4-5-1 to cover our leak or ferdinand comes back into the frame.. we failed to capitalize a golden oppoturnity and by the look of SAF's face yesterday, i guess the players will be going trough hell again

valenci midweek, and mainly away.we loose giggs for a couple of weeks.rooney was subbed due to injury.rio will be playing it seems, but defence we have the personnel with wes, the twins, smalling and some of the reserves lads ready to step up.

tho our midfield is cropping up a bit.scholes cant possibly play a starting role in spain, else we would be without him for another away game at Sunderland in the weekend.

Mixed news on the injury front

Wayne Rooney was forced off during the 2-2 draw with Bolton Wanderers on Sunday nursing an ankle injury, but Sir Alex Ferguson expects the Reds striker to be fit for the Champions League trip to Valencia on Wednesday.

However, the news on Ryan Giggs, who was also an enforced substitution at the Reebok Stadium, is not as positive. The Welshman suffered a hamstring strain and will be sidelined for a fortnight at least.

“Ryan is the more serious injury,” Sir Alex said. “It’s a hamstring injury and he’ll be out for a couple of weeks. With Wayne, I am sure we will be able to get him ready for Wednesday.”

The Reds have won away from home only once so far this season – the 5-2 victory against Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup. But after a 0-0 draw with Rangers in the opening Champions League Group C fixture, the Reds’ trip to Spain this week is vitally important – especially as Valencia opened their European account with a thumping 4-0 win over Turkish side Bursaspor.

Rooney’s fitness, regardless of the scrutiny on his on-field form and off-field personal life, is a major boost for the Reds. Rio Ferdinand wasn’t included in the 18-man squad against Bolton, although he did travel to the Reebok Stadium, and he is expected to be involved against Valencia on Wednesday.

yes our away form is nothing to be proud of, but fulham, bolton, everton this early on our travels is a hard one.but i see we having a better chance in the title run in with all those 3 teams coming to ot.

its like a midlife crisi we have here with our away form.the team looks alienated from itself, passes going wrong, and alot of communication breakdown.we looked jagged and like a newly formed team when were away.fergie will address that in due time and im confident our some what mini resurgence is at sunderland and the nearest one will be valencia.

sunderland is another tough nut to crack, just look at what they did to arsenal and liverpool home sweat.gif

yeah, thats why it will be a perfect place to set things straight.the saying "were slow starters" comes to mind and although it might be seen as cliché i think thats just what we are.no one can possibly be happy with the 3 draws we have but looking on good side we still havent lost any games, were still 3 pts away from the leader and its still early on.
