Not a bit.. But far more expensive than iPad value..
But Samsung still claimed that they'll sell Tab faster than Apple's iPad.. laugh.gif

Being an iPad user, I can tell you the galaxy even at rm2.5k range is value for money. The iPad is value for a LOT MORE money, a overpriced under spec gadget.

A price of around RM2000 will be competitive and I'd say then is A GOOD BUY

Yes indeed the tabs looks good but wonder if it will be upgradeable to android 3.0 in future as most techies claims, android 2.2 is not optimise for tablets. Guess i will just hold on and wait till first quarter next year where there will be more new product coming into the marketplace. Indeed rm2.7k for a tablet is ridiciously expensive for a tablet. You could get a pretty good laptop for that price.
*
Price is relative. I'd say smartphones are ridiculously expensive too with most 3.5 " screen models ranging RM 2000 to RM 2600. You can buy 2 Windows netbook for the price of one smartphone.

I still feel apps is a matter of time - it is a chicken and egg situation. I have posted here before saying that at least Google is honest saying for the 7" tablets , apps are yet fully optimized for it. Just look at iPad , selling like hot cakes but till now now only 25000 apps out of the 250,000 apps in Apple Store are developed for it . Most users will find that more than half their apps on ipad is running on a 3.5" view on a 9.7" screen or an expanded 7" view ( with blurry fonts, poor resolution ) on a 9.7" screen.

I have not actually seen the Galaxy Tab but have seen the local CSL MI700 ( 7" Android 2.2 ) - I'd say is not a major issue ; at least the apps resolution looks better than the ipad using the default apps. One might see more differences in the graphic intensive high resolution games

since you owned an ipad and still insist that Tab is better, will you be buying one on 29th?  drool.gif
*
I'd say if I have a choice then, I'd buy the Galaxy Tab over the iPad. Simply because you could use the Galaxy Tab as a substitute netbook ( rating 8/10 ) . Try that on the iPad - you will " die" of frusration ( rating 5/10) . The iPad is a consumer gadget - use it to browse, emails, games, ebooks, magazines - this is great. Try do some office work on it, manage files etc - you will get frustrated. Especially using the editing function on keyboard ( unless you are a good typist ) - I can assure you that you wish you can just throw it away and wish your netbook is with you.

Will I buy the Galaxy Tab - NO at the present moment. Simply 'cos I already spend a premium price ( 20 % more ) on the iPad ( and bought so many apps to enhance and improve it ). I just bought recently a 5" Dell Streak - a fantastic smartphone - it is basically my portable netbook most of the time. I used to bring out my IPad but now I use the Dell Streak more often - for browsing, emails, RSS, Tweeter, Facebook etc , convenient and best is pocketable. I am now running Froyo on my Dell Streak and is great so far

Of course it has GPS ; the GPS pickup is very fast - it is at very stable and consistent , I'd say is many , many times better than my ex Galaxy S, comparable to my ex Nexus and HD2 ( Android ). Nowadays a smartphone without GPS cannot sell-loh!

offtopic abit : your HD2 batt life izit decent? can last 15hrs of normal usage?
not bad of they do
*
Battery life on HD2 Android is worse than on original WM6.5. The Android rom and all the apps is executed fully from the SD card so this causes higher battery usage. I did not really monitor it but roughly would say 20 to 30% higher. Your normal usage could be different from my normal usage , so difficult to say.

On my phone, these are my settings : weather updates every 4 hours, email accounts retrieval ( 3 ) every 15 minutes, RSS update every hour, Tweets every 30 minutes, calls about 5/day, SMS about 10/day, browsing up to 2 hours/day, music and video ( rarely ), games ( Never ). If fully charge at 7 am , by 8 pm - usually left 10 %. Overnight from 11 pm till 7 am the next day , no browsing/no calls battery life drop by 30 % , previously on WM 6.5 drop most 10 %.

may i know how is the performance of HD2 with froyo? 100% functionality? thinkin to get hd2 and install froyo.

You can read users comments at LowYat here : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1554156

Basically I'd say the HD2 on Android Froyo is 99 % to 99.99 % functional. Different roms has different bugs. Even cooked WM or Android roms has bugs, what more a Android rom ported to a WM phone ? It is basically whether those bugs do you consider important. What I can say the HD2 on Android can be used as a daily phone without little issues. The roms to date has more than 20 variations and are being improved every day. I'd say the improvement and growth of Android roms on HD2 is even faster than the WM 6.5 variants.

Frankly, I always advised if one wants to use a Android phone go buy a proper Android phone. The HD2 I'd say for guys who already has it and want to get out from WM6.5. But if you have interest, no harm trying.

Performance : This is what I had rated based solely on my experience ( no games usage ). On a score of 10 being the best, NexusOne - 10, HD2 Android ranges 8.5 to 9.0, Dell Streak 8.5 and Samsung Galaxy S : 5

Please post any further questions on HD2 Android at the link above. We need to keep this thread clean

I dont think so. If you were to read the review to date about the Galaxy Tab, there is no serious comments about poor performance compared to Galaxy S. You google for Galaxy S performance , you will read tons and tons of bad comments about is laggyness and slow program launch , all because of Samsung poor software implementation of the OS from its internal flash drive. It is so obviously laggy, you need to install either Voodoo lag fix or One CLick lag fix to improve it

i have a question.

i'm using maxis prepaid, and don't have data plan.

will there be any limitation of usage the device? any apps that must use 3G? (other than web browser)
*
If you are using just those normal prepaid card, you can still have data access only is more expensive . Type *136# send to activate 3G
Data rate is : RM0.10/10kB from 7am-2am & RM0.05/10kB from 2am - 7am
So a monthly usage 500 MB will cost you max RM 50 and one can easily exceed 500 MB, if not careful to monitor

> there are many other apps need 3G besides browser:

- Tweeter feeds
- RSS News feed
- Weather updates
- Currency exchange updates
- Email
- Facebook standalone
- Youtube standalone
- sync ( auto or manual ) your contacts/calendar with Google ( Gmail account )
- Access market to download apps
- Google Maps
- Navigation software : Google Maps
- Messenging : skype, MSN, Yahoo etc
- Google voice actions

OR just use WIFI

Cuz in my setting > wireless connection. > mobile >scroll to bottom, there's an option to uncheck data connection ...  that 100% disables any data uses except when u use wifi ..
*
In my Dell Streak Settings/Wireless & Network/Mobile Networks/Data enabled ( just tick to select or unselect )
plus also Schedule datas connection > If I choose ENabled - I can set the start time and end time

rm1849 with 1year contract. I'm a maxis user, i just need to change my maxis plan to rm50 bcos previously i'm using rm30 plan n plus another rm 48 for 500mb data plan. But for this unit i'm using my celcom broadband sim card. I'm sorry, i'm not good in giving review bcos i'm not an 'IT' person. But i really like this tablet, its cool, i'm always travelling so i think it fits me
*
Check the fine print of contract with maxis. You change plan maxis will fine you rm500. Some of members in here had reported this and cursing maxis over this. Were you affected as the rm500 will be in your next bill , that,s what I understand

*
Definately you can go online with it . If is a solely a data package, you cannot make/recieve calls.

Having ipad for 7 months and tested briefly the tab I would say both have its pro n
cons. use those web reviews used as s guide. Ultimately which is better depend on what you want to do with it.
personally I feel this tab can be my alternative tablet. Frankly the ipad is just an overblown and overhype tablet. I love my macs but seriousky I can't say so for the
Ipad.

Don't know want to wait iPad or just buy this Tab from Maxis. When will Maxis launch the iPad? But both are different category for the screen size. Now all is going for Android. But Maxis always lower their price within the same year for a product after launching. See all their iPhones also know drool.gif
*
Maxis dropping prices is due to :

1. Apple had drop its price of the 3Gs after release iP4 , so is natural Maxis will have to follow.
2. With a new product in the iP4 it is a natural decison to drop prices so that buyers will select the newer product and budget conscious can get the older model
3. Need to dispose off old stocks of older 3Gs

One cannot catch up with technology. Just look at recent MacBook Air launch last week. Previously the cheapest MBA cost RM5299 and highest end is RM6799. NOW you have a smaller 11.6 in starting at RM 3299 and the highest end RM 5299 ( with options added up to RM5999 ). Best part is, the lowest end 11.6 model even on a 1.4 GHZ CD2 outperforms the older high end 2.13Ghz.

So if ever there is a Galaxy Tab 2 coming up, don't be suprised to see aprice drop up to RM1 k. It is also very probable you will see aprice drop of this Galaxy tab up to at least RM 500 in the next 3 months with newer competition coming up

To all Malaysia Tab owners, quick questions. The Android Market in Tab is it the same as HTC Android as in all apps are only free? Or can I buy the apps like in the States and Europe?
Still contemplating between iPad 64GB 3G, Desire HD and the Tab... Thanks in advance.
*
It is same market for all. To access paid apps just install the free app market enabler or market access.
