Bought my Galaxy Tab 16gb and using it for a week

Really like it except that I cant connect USB Driver to it.

I have seen some site stating that USB Camera Kit will be available for Samsung Galaxy Tab, can anyone (Would be better if someone from Samsung Malaysia) confirm this? When is the Keyboard and TV Out cable going to arrive in Malaysia? Would just love to have it
*
You mean you want the TAB to act as a USB Drive ??

1. On the tablet, go to the Home screen and press the Menu button below the display.

2. Select Settings.

3. Select Wireless & network.

4. Choose USB setting.

5. Select Mass storage.

Now when you attach the Galaxy Tab to your computer, it will show up as a USB drive.

OR is it

You want to access to the SD card , then you don't need a special driver. For USB Mass storage to work, turn off USB Debugging. Just hook it up to the computer, pull down the notification bar, choose the USB connection, and change it to USB Mass storage. The SD card should mount. At that point you can manually move files/ folders on the SD card.

Be sure to properly unmount the SD card before unplugging from the computer. Also you need to change the USB connection back to Charge Only or one of the PC settings before the tablet will recognize it.

For this to work, you should have already installed Android USB drivers : Download the Android SDK at http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html . Select your rom version and the USB drivers. It will auto download and install on your computer

Let me make it clear, I want to Plug pendrive or USB Media such as Hardrive directly to Galaxy Tab via the USB Camera Connection Kit. If you google around you can see that Samsung has introduced their own Camera Connection Kit which is similar to the ipad. And this is the reason I'm asking is it true and where can we get it in Malaysia. This includes the keyboard and TV Out cable as well
*
Samsung has yet to announced when such a USB adapter be available ? Lots of web rumours will be this December. Temporary your best option is to use the microSD to transfer files
And I don't think you can plug in an external harddrive as it requires too much power. On the Ipad this also cannot be done with the standard USB external hard drive, max is only those USB thumb drives.
It has been reported that most Bluetooth keyboards can connect to it - did you try ?

Any TAB users not happy with it and would like to try Apple's iPad ( 64GB 3G , 6 months old set) with accessories - PM me. We can swap. Just wanna test it few months and write up a comparison.
Have an hour experience on it with my friend's unit. Initial impressions favorable and would say will not lose out much to the ipad unlike what apple fanboys always like to boast about it

Gingerbread for the Tab expected in Q1/2011 . Most obvious improvement will be the support for bigger screen up to 10". Read the full report of the features which will benefit the tab here:

Seems like newspaper has announced release of more budget android and windows tablets ... 7" and 10"

One of it is ZTE - The V9 is powered by the Qualcomm MSM7227. It comes with a 7-inch TFT touchscreen rated at 800 x 480 pixels, 512MB ROM + 512MB RAM, 3-megapixel camera, FM radio, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, DOCs to go(Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF), and up to 32GBs in the microSD slot. What is interesting is that the V9 has a SIM card slot, so you can use the tablet for voice calls. Price at rm1000 !
*
This comes with RESISTIVE screen ( need stylus ) unlike M1700 and Viewsonic models/Galaxy tab which are CAPACITATIVE screens ( finger friendly)

Is google maps for gps tracking? Or just a map viewer?
*
You will not see 3D in Msian or even Spore maps as is not enabled yet by Google . If you wish to know which cities in the world has 3D viewing enabled :

http://www.google.com/mobile/maps/3d/

Scroll down to bottom - select the country

Most of the new features in Maps 5.0 we will not have the luxury to see it even if you installed it

If you want voice assisted navigation, download the BRUT version : Works similarly as MapKing but with additional directions at top header

Are you using the default SMS app ? This type of problem happens due to some apps conflict /interfering with system files. You just got to nail down which apps is affecting it. My friend's Samsung Galaxy S has similar problems. He finally identified it due to some apps ( system/utilities apps ) that he downloaded from "ahem" sources.

YES true but nowadays rooting and unrooting is just a simple 1-2 second process. So root your device and have more alternatives. If you want to sent in for any warranty claims, just unroot it. Android platform is very different from Windows Mobile or iPhone where the unrooting is more complicate. Rooting and unrooting will UNLIKELY can brick your Android phone.

anybody use papago x5 in tab, download into tab , but it say screen not supported, any one can help?

You have to manually rename all 480X854 folders to 600x1024. Connect your Tab to computer. Search for all folders with name " 480x854" - then rename each of it. There should be a few of such folders.

After that, locate SPARE PARTS in TAB menu and enable full screen. Reset your TAB and it should be OK

What is difference AP vs original price?
*
AP price is about RM300 - RM 400 cheaper. If you wish to buy AP buy from a reputable shops with a direct linkage to the AP importer. I will not encourage you to buy it from any of those independent resellers , eg A would have got it from B who possibly source it from C who is the authorized reseller of the AP product. When you have warranty claims , just imagine the the trouble seller A has to go through to submit in a claim for you.

If you wish to buy AP , make sure you are told who is the AP importer - it is better if it is a local setup. Many "AP" sets are actually underwater sets brought in from Singapore or HongKong - these are very troublesome when you need to make claims

I have been buying AP smartphones for several years. There was one time I got caught buying from a kiosk in LowYat ( good price cheaper by M 450 ) - I was shown it was a Spore Singtel set ; starightaway I know it is underwater. Anyway this seller promised me he will arrange sent back to Spore for me if any issue. On the 2nd week I have some issues, and the set was returned to seller. After a week I called him, he said set still with him as he was awaiting for some other guys to arrange a trip down together to Spore ; ask me wait few days and call him back. A week later , called him he said set still with him. He even has the nerve to tell me to wait for another 1 possibly 2 months to get a replacement set !!! He suggested I go down Spore myself to claim if I cannot wait. After a few unhappy calls to n fro, he courier set back to me and I went down to Spotre to get it service back within the same day. Example of one of the unpleasant perils of buying such AP underwater sets

Izit worth for me to convert from ip4 to sgt smile.gif need advice
*
iP4 is a phone ( 3.5" screen ) while the SGT is a tablet ( 7" screen ) first, phone second. There is no rationale behind this change unless you already have an extra phone on hand or you find that the iP4 is of no further use/or you are bored with it.
Both are also completely different O/S. Having use the iPhone 4 before and present iPad - the OS of each caters to a different market of users. If you ask me based on my own needs I'd say the SGT is a better tablet to suit my usage compared to the iPad.

However I feel the phone function in the SGT is only a bonus . Making a call is at your control - you need not worry about how , where and when you want to do it. But recieving a call on the SGT will pose a problem depending on where and what situation you are in. Unlike a phone, you just cannot whip it out and just take the call. The SGT poses more inconvenience especially while you are on the move ( whether driving or just walking ) - just imagine the trouble you'd take just to take the call

You can try this : http://event.asus.com/mb/2010/AI_Charger/

Normally Windows notebooks/Mac notebooks unable to charge iPad which requires/draw higher power. But above software has solve it. No harm trying on the Tab

Joining the club. Got myself a TAB - sold off my iPad !!!
No regrets selling off the iPad as whatever I need on the iPad I can do it on the TAB and especially on the office apps the TAB is so many times better. Another decision of selling off the iPad is also because I bought the latest MacBook Air 11" which basically replaces the iPad which is so deficient and handicapped. The TAB's portability is another PLUS for me switching over
Rooted it using z4root within 10 minutes switching on - so freaking easy
Will explore it further and probably put up a review on my blog later

http://www.thestar.com/travel/article/9212...those-on-the-go

Bert Archer Travel Writer article in The Star Online ( Toronto News not Malaysia) comparing using the iPad and Galaxy Tab. His conclusion - based on his needs Galaxy Tab suits him better. Quote his summary:

The iPad has a lot going for it and is wonderful for any number of reasons. But on the road you’ve got particular needs and the Tab fulfills far more of them than the iPad. So for the moment, despite the huge GPS problem, despite the fact that my laptop is a Mac and therefore blissfully compatible with the entire Apple universe, and in the full knowledge that the next iPad is always mere minutes away, I’m going with Galaxy.

Yeah still no regrets. There's always something new to be done with the Tab. I guess maybe it is because of the portability.

Benny88, any solid reason for us to root? Was thinking to root to gain access to paid apps. My sons like using this device to practice maths.

*
I always root my smartphones. Their virginity usually do not exceed 2 days !!
Plenty of reasons why to root. Unlike Windows Mobiles/iPhone - rooting and unrooting process is very simple and straightforward. There is actually NO chance or possibility you will brick your smartphone unless you do it with a very low battery level ( say below 20 % ). You want to sent in for warranty , just unroot it

1. Can install free app Market Enabler or MarketAccess - with this can access the Android PAID apps market. The paid apps market has also many FREE apps not found in the normal free market ; the most obvious are Google apps - once updated you get immediate notice to update your phone. No need to hunt around for other APK from other sources to keep your unit updated

2. Some software example taking screenshots , Titanium Backup ( a very good backup software ), File Explorer apps to access system files to edit example display, icon properties : needs phone be rooted. Software like MyBackupPro needs root so you can even backup system apk data

3. Can install other roms : My MAIN reason why I must root

I always say if you dont root your smartphone is analogous to buying a 7 seater MPV and ferry every time only 2 passengers ; buying a BMW 5 series but only travel 90-100 km/hr on highway

seriously? you sold ur ipad? so honestly, which one is better..i own SGT..i decided to have SGT over ipad, and till now im confused if i made the wrong choice... rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Different people has different needs of their gadgets. It does not mean the iPad is a poorer choice ; just that based on my needs the SGT serves me better. The reason I bought the ipad then was for its portability and long battery life. However using it for 8 months I have found it to be a poor replacement for my mobile computing. Before buying it, I was aware of its limitations but since it was the then the best choice, I bought it. However when the latest MBA ( 11") models were released in Oct, the iPad becomes really a handicapped gadget. Since the day I bought the MBA, I had never touch it. Even my son ( a U student ) is not even interested in it - he still prefer his MBPro. Those who like games, playing with apps - the ipad is unbeatable. These is however not my interests. I was disappointed with the ipad :

1. Need to work with iTunes to sync/transfer files or use cloud services
2. Browser was hopelessly poor - I replace it with Atomic which was slightly better with tabs function. Anytime the Android browser especially Dolphin HD and XScope beats it flat ( based on my experience using these on my Dell Streak ).
3. Email header download is fast but downloading content - agonizing slow ( Yahoo, Gmail, TM ) . How slow ?? - both my Dell Streak and present SGT is almost immediate while the ipad needs to wait up to 5 to 10 secs to download full mail content. With attachments - just need to wait
4. Was initially attracted to its Magazines feature , but got tired reading it as involve too much scrolling up-down, left right and pinch to zoom. It is really a tiring task reading magazines on it - few sections is OK ; whole magazine just forget about it
5. The editing function in ipad is unbelievably ridiculous to the point i must say is " stupid". Being a not so good typist, the editing work is really frustrating
6. I cannot update my blog on the iPad as incompatible issues ( on all browsers I have tried )

I was attracted to the SGT as it was really portable and all my out of home needs is fully met with no issues ( just using it only 2 days now ). I do not faced browsing, email lag. My RSS, news feed, tweeter works superb and download speeds on the SGT is amazingly good.

So in summary which is better for you, decide based on your needs

Some negatives on the SGT I found in these 2 days:

1. The default UI is even worse than the Galaxy S ; I do not seem to hear/read of such issue. It is not smooth . Small issue - I replace it with ADW Launcher - it is now many times smoother and slick
2. Because of its 7" some apps not full screen ; easily overcome - I downloaded spare parts , run the Compatibility mode , boot it twice. Now all my apps works full screen including PaPago X5. Papago X5 however the small menu box is floating. Anyway I find using it as a GPS is too big - will still use my Streak for GPS. But is good to know Papago X5 works well on the SGT. I have read some games still cannot run fullscreen even with this tweak but is no concern to me as I dont play games on it
3. Similarly to SGS, KIES SUCKS big time. I couldn't get it connected /detected at all on Win 7 ( on my MAC) but could get it connected on my Mac OSX but only for USB mass storage - on my MacOSX I can transfer files to and fro between my MAC and the SGT internal card and external SD card. KIES was working OK only on my Windows PC ( Win XP ) but is slow
