Hey bro, I'm Razlan added you on Facebook earlier.
Err.. you're asking the wrong person haha. I'm not a contractor bro and my aquarium also normal standard sizing so no custom work.

But if you are going to have a 5'x5' viewing pane and then have the walls made of concrete that still doesn't indicate the size of the actual tank itself. The 5'x5' is just the window right? Doesn't mean it'll take up the entire front of the tank. Basically what is the length, depth and height of the tank? And then the front panel consists of a 5'x5' viewing glass which is massive. In order to support the water pressure it would be expensive. You're better off making a longer tank rather than a taller one because the water pressure and weight against the glass increases significantly with height.

Then for the base of the tank, you'd probably need to make it out of rebar and cement. Or at very least thick steel with multiple support beams. The concrete structure (if you do go with concrete) would need the drain holes all built in as well plus allowances for plumbing of the PVC. Then where would you put it? The weight of the actual thing means either ground floor or if on upper floors better be on a load bearing part of your house structure.

The filtration system is also going to cost a bomb. But actually, if you DIY everything you could get away with a rather reasonably priced setup. Try MFK, there are heaps of DIY tanks there much bigger than what you want and they share their plans/drawings.
*
lol, i thought u've a big pond, maybe the same idea about the cost will come through it.. hehe. sorry ya.
well, thank u so much for the explanation and ur idea bro. thumbup.gif rather to have a 5ft tank if that so or maybe just a fiberglass tank that 've plain glass in front of it.
my idea for the filtration is using the filtration system for pond,, sigh~ need a lot of effort to make it true. sweat.gif

I believe its already happened? Ask the fish suppliers to confirm if Gars can be brought in legally anymore. Because people release them into local rivers and lakes - that's why any non-native fish is often banned or viewed as a threat.

Some are concrete, while some aren't. The biggest concrete pond is the 40,000gal pond. The rest are already mature ecosystems over 10 years old in some cases.
*
people dont do any research before they get something to keep as pet, like gator gars, they will get huge, and by the time the 3ft tank cant fix them anymore, then they release them to the lake.. that's why all this happen.. nod.gif

Guys, does your fishes jump often ? I was reading bout Arapaima and Sturgeons seems like they jump alot in the wild. How bout in captive ponds ? Need to cover ?
*
no need to cover, juz make the pond higher little bit,, juz my opinion. i think more depth the pond, they'll not jump, only when they catch their prey. IMO.

I wouldn't think they will, but if it cannot digest the food then it will be deep trouble. Used to have a small senegal last time due to keeping with Otocinclus (algae eater) it swallowed the fish but then it died one week later coz of the spines and head bone which stuck in the stomach... cry.gif  cry.gif

really?? my endlicheri just ate an algae eater last 2 week~ shocking.gif

How big is your endli? As long as the algae eater not more than half the size of him then should be ok, and small enough to digest slowly without harming the internal organs....coz my senegal end up got ruptured stomach. Did open up the fish and found bone lumps with spiky bits of fin stuck together....so scary.... shocking.gif
*
my endli is about 6inch,, i just put the algae eater then, zupp! already in its mouth~ maybe it thinks that algae eater is the feeder. lol. sweat.gif

Seriously, I don't know. But I'm guessing the Arapaima isn't going to be kept all by itself right? Surely there will be tank mates so short answer is as big as you can afford.

What did you have in mind? Both setup and budget wise.
Fins n' Greens ada lah these tanks, plus can choose to have add on sump filtration that sits nicely at the edge.
*
really? how much they cost actually? i'll try to get one,, it comes with the filtration fiberglass box rite?
