QUOTE(casperito @ Oct 13 2010, 12:11 AM) i'm juz familliar with asus mobo's... a very good mobo... not sure about their lappy... sometimes i think asus are selling their name more than selling their product... not into skinning too.. but need to keep it scratch free... wonder whether this is good... http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/alienw...ins-shields.phpFor protection with Invisible shield then ok but I then think about the heat dissipation when covered with a layer of plastic/polymer... ? Will it hamper? QUOTE(amersudin @ Oct 13 2010, 12:55 AM) got my alienware m11x r2 i7core 8gb ram 500gb hdd from rsrie on sept 23rd !! WELCOME TO THE MOTHERSHIP BRO!!!

QUOTE(abesabraham @ Oct 16 2010, 05:00 PM) Hi! Add my name to the M15x owners list! Btw, i have a question about the synaptics touchpad. Is it always this draggy? Like its not laggy or anything just that the motion in which the cursor moves is not so smooth. Yes. It is so you'll have to update the BIOS to A08 to get that rectified

QUOTE(abesabraham @ Oct 17 2010, 04:44 PM) Thanks, just did that and I can see the improvements. I have a question, What are the current upgrades we can do? GPU? What about harddisk space? QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Oct 17 2010, 04:55 PM) GTX285M or ATi HD5870. HDD max at 500GB for 7200RPM and slightly large for 5400RPM. swapping HDD is just simple task, no hassle. opposite to GPU upgrade. you have to consult sifu Puto or sifu Julchin regarding this matter. for the M15x the max graphically I know is the ATI 5870 but will take some effort for doing it and acquiring the card. QUOTE(Jabberwocky @ Oct 17 2010, 09:27 PM) So i don't have to purchase any other 5.1 sound card for it ? I have read some reviews they say Roccat Kace have some minor problems when used with Alienware products, ie over vibration, etc .. .. I'm not sure how well it will work as the salesperson told me I'd need a few jacks (2/3colours I think) to make full use of the KAVE.

M15x also only has 3. 2 Earphones and I mic. Salesperson told me I would need the Full Fledge Soundcard jacks to use the Kave and told me if I didn't it would be a waste...

QUOTE(AlexAw @ Oct 19 2010, 06:38 AM) Hey guys , I just installed GTA IV on my Alienware M15X . It doesn't really lag the 1st time I played it . However , since the 2nd time , it really really lags , I've set everything at low , yet it still lags . I've triple confirmed I'm not on Stealth Mode , and am on AC POWER .Also , at times , while charging my laptop , it'll be ( plugged in , not charging ) . Any solutions about that ? I believe I have experienced this a few times before. If i am not mistaken it has something to do with the power supply. Are you running with a heavy power requirement notebook cooler plug'ed in when you started you M15x? The scenario I have experienced before is one whereby my notebook cooler (CM Infinite 4USB PortHub) is connected and windows starts as usual but no ping/chime sound when windows starts. All games will perform to 25% of its normal speed/ fps or even lower and some applications won't start. Normally when It comes to this I reboot the notebook and unplug my Cooler and it will work. I have also come across a couple of occasions whereby I had to restart a couple of times before its rectified and noticed that whenever the notebook cooler is plug in was the time this lag incident will happen and never when the cooler was unplug. So I concluded that the cooler must be messing with the power during startup which underclocks the proc or something. You can also try restarting and removing battery and pressing the POWER BUTTON for 15sec before putting it all back again and restarting. I haven't installed new BIOS but I think that should rectify this issue though I am not experiencing this problem even remotely often at the moment.

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Oct 19 2010, 01:56 PM) it called power drain, if i am not mistaken. very useful in restarting your system after you try anything that you don't familiar with Yup its called POWER DRAIN. I thought I'd explain it in detail . Very handy indeed. Its like reseting the system whilst its off and a another way to let it start afresh in case somethings amiss inside.... luckily this power issue I had is not frequent. I was beginning to fear the mobo is giving problems again. Temps been increasing for my gaming, got a Cooler Master U3 to see if the option to customise the positioning of the fans can help bring down the temps compared to my previous CM Infinite.... Else I'll have to do the tedious job of re-applying the thermal paste....

QUOTE(rc2x @ Oct 21 2010, 02:53 PM) Same lar. But mine idle at 45(cpu) | 44(gpu). When gaming, its quite hot. QUOTE(lostcaus @ Oct 21 2010, 03:11 PM) 50c is purty normal for surfing, im in office which is quite warm as everyone here cant stand cold.. my m11x r1 is at 45c with light surfing and words open. When idle 50-60c is normal. I get 62c sometimes when just surfing. When gaming it can get really hot. Depending on the game, on the GTX 260M I have recorded 92c which was the max. ATI 5870 have currently reached a new max of 85c playing SINGULARITY on max settings. Maybe its time to re-apply my thermal paste or reposition my Cooler's fans.... QUOTE(dark_axl21 @ Oct 21 2010, 05:10 PM) Woah! Where are you doing you're studies then? If I remember correctly our fellow doctor was and is pursuing studies in EGYPT. Upgradable to a certain degree. Power consumption is capped by the motherboard else we can upgrade to GTX 4** Cards which are power hungry.... :/
P:S I agree with Doc regarding the RM11k pricing for the M17x, as back then even the standard M15x specs were going for RM6599 without the GTX 260M which would have made it RM6999. Throw in a proc upgrade, Ram upgrade from 4-6 and its 9k already.... huff! Lower prices though are good for us so Ain't complaining... xP

ProofAll credit goes to goha01 from Notebook Review Forum. Awesome stuff I wonder if eventually it will outperform the ATI 5870? Hmmmm..... Lets see if GTX 470M fits.... Awaiting MORE GOOD NEWS!!! QUOTE(Lil Kiasu @ Oct 26 2010, 05:41 PM) yea... the hinge tends to get loose after some time~ Added on October 26, 2010, 5:42 pmOi... don't compare MBP la~ You're giving me poison summore u kno~ On second thought... just poison me on the MacBook Air 11"~ going to Taiwan next month so hope can get it thr~ Added on October 26, 2010, 5:45 pmshit la~ now we all needa money to upgrade edi~ Well we still have to wait for the results of the card and the feedback. I checked that the GTX 460M, GTX 470M, GTX 260M and the ATI 5870 uses the same amount of power at 72-75watts with the 470,5870 and 260M using 75Watts. So if the 470M comes in the MXM 3.0 slot size then we might even see that coming to the M15x. Next up will be news for the M17x owners p:s If I get this GTX 4** Card I'll have 3 GPUs for my 1 M15x... jeez....

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Oct 28 2010, 08:26 PM) yes you heard right. not to mentioned the fan loudly sound and consume a lot of power too. its because i am the first batch of M17x, where GTX280M was the best GPUs in the world. and i love Nvidia drivers too, compared to ATi. its worth it. But there isn't an option for the M15x so its ATI for now for me. Maximum the M15x can take would be the GTX 470M. And now that Nvidia has leaked news of their GTX 580, I wonder what bodes for us in the coming year with regards to GTX 5**M cards.....
