i know some of you hate/enjoy my absurd postings here....
have you been keepin an eye out for what hilarious stupids will i post next and try to shoot me down? =)
yeah, i'm here just to 'liven' things up with funny nonsense so here goes....
yes, recycle for the future!
Attached Image
the idea came from building my very own sound sticks 2 (yes i enjoy making things, even stupid things)but i failed to find any suitable 'container' and the closest i can find in the junk yard on sunday is....
Attached Image
what does it looks like?
Attached Image
like this?
Attached Image
so i'm gonna make it look like a tube thingy instead of sound sticks, spray the top with metallic spray on the inside, make down firing sub....
ok first i check the size of my spare woofer salvaged from the ton of altecs i keep for hobby/obsession?
Attached Image
ok this ones fits best.... =)
Attached Image Attached Image
but this one fits into my other spare smaller woofy!!??
Attached Image Attached Image
make big or small?
then should i put in 4.1 or 2.1? you want to help me pick later when i start making sats?
Attached Image
i'm gonna have to measure and cut the bottom of the bottle with a saw blade to fit woofy later
this should be cool, if i arrange the parts inside to looks like the innards of a tubey
ok stay tuned and give me some suggestions, ideas, moral or de-moral support =) because i'm gonna do it anyway since i bought the parts!

Will the bottle be hard enough to hold itself from the pressure of the subwoofer? Unless its like hard, though plastic i dont think its going to work? hmm.gif

Unless you reinforce the bottle and make it heavy.

^ agreed.. the plastic might be a little too soft, might produce a "vroom vroom" sound

pet bottles usually can withstand high pressure thats why used for 'rocket' if use for sound solid lar!
its heavy enough and strong by itself and has nice smooth shape inside to nicely reverb your bass, so don't put any spoonge inside!!
comes with a free built in bass tube too =) wah hehe tommorow i cut it up and let you know how it sounds like la

i think i should do the big one?

big is better rclxms.gif cuz heavier
but not sure lar, building a rocket is simple only, can withstand that pressure
ofcoz can withstand the bass power from the subwoofer but then will it sound nice? later vibrate vibrate the whole subwoofer move around your house lol
that you gotta experiment a bit oso nod.gif

wanna learn how to build a rocket out of it? laugh.gif

when i reach home from the office today.....
i straight away went to work cutting the bottle and i found out i couldn't cut it open with my small knife.. it was simply too thick
it was a pro because it would mean the bottle is 'strong' enough for bass
but pain in the ass to cut it open
so i went to heat up a nail over the stove and melted a portion of the bottle
the poke hot nail trick works... but it looks like an ugly mess, so i decided to saw it instead
i wrapped the bit with a cloth to keep my hands from self destruction =)
Attached Image
arrgh it was hard work with my puny bit and i wasn't getting round.... i'm going to my cousin's place later to borrow his jigsaw tool

as ghetto as that sounds, you probably would need to dampen the insides to prevent the ugly resonance at higher than usual bass frequencies. Stability is the least concern because objects have very different resonant frequencies and act very differently when subjected to high energy waves (ie: bass frequencies)

You can use metal and it'll still vibrate like crazzzzy.

wink.gif let this be a motivation so you will work on MDFs on your next project. They arent exactly expensive either so it fits the "on budget" diy theme.

you can always go get a dremel (aka mini wheel sander) to round off the uneven parts
make sure you use low speed, you don't want the plastic to melt and cover your sanding bit

Jigsaw might work, just use fine teeth blade. By all means BECAREFUL. You're working with mains operated power tools. Watch the fingers!

thank you guys for your morale support! =)
i just got back from dinner with my cousin... too late to test the sound...need to sleep
i kinda suck at this kind of thing... my advice is to go slow with the jigsaw, otherwise it will jam and the plastic will melt messy
which...i found out the hard way!
so here is my lousy handy work =)

That was an alternate poor man method, i done that before, need more work to get good finishing.
The soldering iron is not the main soldering iron, get another RM10 cheapo one will do.
Look like marshmellow all those settle with sand paper....or just broom stick only.

i did not manage to buy aluminium shits to hold the crap together inside today =(
Attached Image
here comes the 'boring' part of banging up the amp
almost done hooking all the connections together, recapping and making it smaller...

need to clean the heat sink with solvents to get rid of the (original)thermal paste all over it and make it shiny again

i spent a few hours yesterday trying to rewire something i dismantled years ago....
most of the caps, trace and components has gone bad....even the volume pot is dead
after 3 assemble, check, test later i got it back to good working condition...but it was already late at night. so i couldn't blast test it and my friends over the other end of the world is beckoning me to attend our raya mabook special
Attached Image Attached Image
this morninh i woke up with a terrible hangover but i couldn't wait to test blast my labtec amp
i will not wire the thing up properly until i mount the components into the 'tube' later
WOW, the results was surprisingly clear, crispy and soomth. it was so unlike the old labtec set that it came from...
Attached Image Attached Image
yes, the sub i made still vibrates a little and stuff. barely noticable dancing, just sounds a little off surprisingly for i haven't seal the leaking parts and reinforce the base.
overall performance at current state is like what you guys said... better than low and mid range stuff

hmmnn...next will be the satellites... i need some inspiration for design and material again...

That amp and preamp is familiar, I bet its from Labtek Pulse 424 (yea I know its right in the first place tongue.gif) I have one before, the preamp broke. Tried to fix it but since I have zero experience back then (maybe 8-9 years ago, forgot the exact date) I throw them out.

the amp construction insdie for LCS2424 is a fail but the TDA7375 inside is quite nice sounding. they have many flaws back then...but after mod... sounds nice.
years ago, for stock speakers they sound alright. i think they made it as a low budget altec acs45.1 competitor
originally it had not so good speakers, horrid caps, 4560 opamp, bad cabling, bad design for splitting the pcb into 2 pieces...etc... but after 'fixing' it up with panasonic caps and shortcutting the cables. wow its nice really! i'm glad i picked this for my project.

i was thinking of something like this for sats.... aquariom shop can make i think

okay okay its the weekend already....
i went shopping today and bought clothes at bb plaza
also......... i met up with E1 - AKG, nice guy. Honestly =) or at least thats what i think about him =)
so the story goes......

if you want to purchase something very special to treat yourself or your loved ones, E1 - AKG has got some good deals for you!
Attached Image
the set i received from E1 - AKG is a little old, well used, well loved and the capacitors in it was dying (the left and right channel is not balanced, sound quality was a little inconsistent) but.........

WOW! its sounds so lively. a little more than i expected!
At the comfort of home, i can really hear what it sounds like because it isn't noisy like in the shopping mall.
this gave me a total new point of view to about building my very own SOUND SICKS hehehe
when it came to sound quality differences, i realized that i was building my sound sicks according to the regular 'computer multimedia' gaming configuration.
this event was a real eye opener and gave me better idea how to continue building my sound sicks
Attached Image
mmmmmm this can be considered my 'childhood toys' that i couldn't afford to buy then lol =)
today, my wish came to me in a big baby diaper box wink.gif
