QUOTE(sembilan @ Jan 6 2011, 05:13 PM) Hello fellow tennis lovers, was wondering if anyone can tell me why older rackets can be strung at higher tension than current modern rackets. I have a zebra radical and prince graphite II and the maximum tension can go to around 70 ( for the prince). Thanks. First thing rackets at that generation most of the companies were in the US especially like companies like Prince, (check your racket, its Made in the USA.) They did not skimp on materials and the quality control was very high. Also during that time, the strings that were mainly used were synthetic gut and Natural gut, also I THINK not 100% sure, balls were lighter then compared to the present. For oversized Prince 110 series, I think the maximum tension listed is 72lbs-75lbs. |

QUOTE(sembilan @ Jan 6 2011, 06:53 PM) Does that also mean that it's possible for me to string my modern racket at a higher tension (with synthetic that is)? I have a tecnifibre and the recommended range is 49 to 57. Due to arm problems I try to avoid poly but it's currently strung with rpm blast at 50 and it feels just nice. I tried stringing my k6.1 with poly at 55 once and I was completely gone. I prefer synthetic gut as I feel that it provides me with more feel. Actually just got the graphite II of a seller in mudah, don't know how they play and where its made yet. Thanks for the replies prae and koko. Well I'd ONLY string above the recommended tension on these conditions, the warranty has expired, and you cannot claim a new unit, might as well try stringing it with your preferred synthetic gut at a higher tension, or you can afford buying a new unit everytime it craps out.......May I ask what technifibre racket you have? The reason I am asking is because of the RA rating, which means the racket stiffness, the TF racket you have may have a lower RA rating than that of the Wilson K6.1 tour, if you felt uncomfortable with the K6.1 tour, can you elaborate on what you did NOT like about it? Or the strings, please state your string. On another note, I am using the K6.1 tour at a low tension around 42-45lbs, if you are willing to experiment abit, who knows it may be a new exciting adventure :-p |

Well I hope Nadal does NOT play next week and rests, coz in Australia the temperature will go insane.....no matter how friggin fit you are, if you have a Fever......x-p
I like Nadal's chances of a grand slam this year. But for me, I wanna see his draw first before I make a comment on how I'd think he will do for the AO. This post has been edited by praetorian: Jan 8 2011, 10:08 AM |

CK as much as like Nadal's bull style on the court. In Australia if he plays more day matches than night matches he is screwed for sure.....7 matches in 2 weeks, and Nadal does not play like Federer ie short points.....he tends to drag them a tad too much for my liking especially on hard courts, I cannot remember if the AO has 'sticky' courts still.....I know they either resurfaced the courts and change the color of their courts.
If Nadal serves like how he did in the US Open, he has a good chance at capturing his 2nd Australian Open title, heheheh we'll just have to see. |
