As know that the case consist of 2 layers, inner layer will be silicon cover & the outer layer is hard plastic cover, actually the silicon cover not much different with other brand silicon case (eg PDAir luxury silicon case which i have been using all the while), now with the hard plastic applied on it become very solid, the feeling is totally different if compared with silicon standalone case.

I brought this through Case-mate online store by using 20% discount code from Case-mate, the total price inclusive of shipping is about RM96.

Lastly here are some photos to share.

Yes I know. But even after I exit the GPS, it is still consuming battery power when I check on the battery use in settings. I think this is a bug in android software. Anyone can confirm this?

Added on September 8, 2010, 10:12 amI found a thread about this GPS draining battery issue... Very similar to my problem. I need to restart my SGS in order to clear away the GPS software from draining my battery.

ok i've been doing testing today...and i have a real problem. the moment i activate GPS (Papago X5) and i EXIT the application.. thereafter my galaxy will NOT sleep.

here's what happened
1. used papago x5.. reach destination
2. exit papago x5 (using the EXIT button in the application)
3. went lepak, makan, notice battery weak, thought it was the GPS usage
4. charge the phone up to 95%, go home
5. journey home took an hour, battery drop to 81% (NO USAGE)
6. enter battery info menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and notice Since last unplugged, Running (100%) 1hr 2m 55s, go to Settings -> About -> Battery Use > 1h 3m 12s since unplugged..

means since the moment i unplugged the phone till i got home, it never SLEPT.

nothing else was used, no games, no apps, NOTHING. my phone has OCLF installed, and its rooted. help. can anybody replicate this problem?

basically the phone doesn't sleep.. you need to go in the testing menu *#*#4636#*#* to see it.

i removed OCLF (kept root though) and installed voodoo beta4
in benchmark..OCLF hit 2.2k.. voodoo hit 1.7k only

but in actual use, no difference.. both smooth.. voodoo also has the color fix..

No solid solution yet. If you have, please share...

im wondering did we get a lemon? if yes we should get it warranty replaced. can some bro/sis help replicate this problem???

I don't think it is OCLF or Voodoo. Previously I was on OCLF, after that change to Voodoo beta4. Papago still drains battery in the background even after you exit it. I think it is Papago software problem.. Anyhow, my papago is a trial version, full version i am not sure..
*
brother.. let me guess. your screen brightness is set to MANUAL! correct?
thats a theory i got from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/in...p/t-682923.html

my screen brightness is set to MANUAL as well..will be doing more testing.

Actually I set to auto-brightness. I read the posting but not sure whether that is the case with this Papago.

The problem I found is as follows: You can check whether you are facing the same type of problem as I am facing.

1. I start Papago and run for a few minutes, let say 5 min.
2. I exit properly.
3. Half hour later I check battery usage using battery history (or spare parts or the codes you given).
4. Papago GPS use is 4m 50s, CPU use is 5m 20s, sensor use is 30m 20s.
5. I try run compass, drop game, camera, and every other apps that use sensor.
6. Another 15min pass, check battery history again, Papago GPS use 4m 50s, CPU use 5m 20s, sensor use 46m 35s.
7. Sensor battery use also got records of the compass, drop game, camera, etc. but they don't show increase after I stop those apps.

It appears that Papago activated a sensor and this sensor never shut down, lurking in the background draining battery all the time. I even tried flight mode, but the Papago sensor still active. Not sure how to proceed from here. So I just restart the phone and the problem goes away...

Hope you have better luck in catching this bug..
*
bro.. after i set to auto-brightness and use voodoo lagfix beta4.. i no longer have the Running (100%) problem..but i have the sensor being used by Papago problem like you have described.. i think the culprit is papago!

Not just papago but also gmap brut. I guess it is related to the gps, just now I checked *#*#4636*#*#, went into battery history, top dropdown select sensor, 2nd dropdown select total time, my gmap brut was on for 16days+ and papago for 7days+. Omg, bug!! Either a gps or sensor bug, lucky I have the habit of manual putting my phone into sleep mode, else my battery will finish fast like u all.
To those who used any gps b4, plz check to confirm.

Didn't want to reboot my phone coz I don't wan to lose the ram manager from the samsung task manager. Hope there is a fix for this and the ram manager.
*
bro how to manually put it into sleep mode? also hows your battery life?
i removed papago, and i realized DOODLE JUMP also face same problem.. i exit it already but the battery history still show doodle jump using the sensor!

i think the other guys should go in *#*#4636*#*# -> battery history -> select sensor from top dropdown and see what is using sensors... i think we've discovered a bug..

zzzzz i tried the code and still no battery history. You guys put the wrong one.
The actual code is  *#*#4636#*#*

Looks like your right, there could be a bug cause it shows that the sensor was active for 5 hours on my phone for a game even though I only played it for around 10-15 minutes.

Doesn't seem to be apps related to gps only. Games using the accelerometer are affected as well. Till a fix comes the only thing to do is reboot the phone I guess...
*
i apologise. was 4am and i was half blur. haha.

so now i am wondering is it a bug displaying it incorrectly, or is it a bug keeping the sensor active and thus draining the battery. how is your battery life?

time spent with Phone On 4m 41s
and used SMS to send and receive less than 20 messages.
screen on 18m 14s

Auto Sync is turned off. nothing is running the background..

the irony is I charged my phone fully by 12pm before I sleep. and the battery drains to the last drop by 8am before the 3rd alarm I've set on 9am. This is annoying because sometimes it can't even make it to 7am.

like I've mentioned before, i've tried everything to save battery. how can it drains battery even when it's idle. now it sounds like voodoo is the culprit.
*
bro
try this
after you fully charge the phone, REBOOT it. that way ensures there's no background process running (left open by other apps), e.g. before this i had PAPAGO leaving GPS use on. and see if the battery life is still that bad.

12pm - 8am is like 20 hours bro. That's ok what. (why you zzz so long?) tongue.gif

Ok, I agree it's annoying. I've gotten severe power drains during the course of the night as well, but that's usually caused by some rogue app that's using 3G. A couple of things you can do:
1. Check your battery stats, is Android OS chewing up the most resources (20+%)?
2. Check your data usage using 3G watchdog or netcounter. Is data being transfered when you're not using the phone?

I'm on JM5+Voodoo Beta 2. Here's my usage pattern:
1. Wifi off, HSDPA off, EDGE only
2. Gmail + Gtalk constantly on
3. Genie widget updates News and Weather every 6 hours
4. Launcher Pro Facebook widget updates every 3 hours
5. A couple of phone calls no longer than 2 mins each
6. About 5-10 sms
7. Total websurfing about 30 mins
8. No live wallpaper

Phone uptime: 6.5 hours. Unplugged it at 74% this morning, it's now showing 61% remaining.
*
thats godlike battery compared to mine.
5 hours and 100% -> 85%
1. wifi off, 3g connection yes, but i did not use any data, auto-sync is off
2. gmail + gtalk off
3. no widgets running except the stock touchwiz one, but it hasn't synced since yesterday.
4. no launcher pro
5. total less than 10 mins phone call
6. total less than 20 sms
7. no surfing
8. the stock wallpaper from the box (but screen was on for only 18 minutes in total)

clearly my phone is *******. im running on voodoo lagfix beta4.. stock firmware

way worse than my previous iphone (3 years ++ old).
*
i'm busting samsung's service centre tomorrow. called their helpline, they were of no help at all.

do we lose the apps, data etc. when we flash the firmware? and how about the stock apps that came with the firmware, e.g. swype, samsung apps etc.

suspecion for the papago battery drain could be real.
i'm on nearly 6 1/2 hours now and the battery is about 69% at the moment.
*
my current test..
2G only
no APPs launched
background data disabled
auto sync disabled
wifi off

fully charged the phone, reboot and been using it since 100%...no APPs were launched since reboot, only used SMS and Phone..
now it is 5h 27m 28s since unplugged
9 mins voice call
31 mins display on
brightness set at minimum (1 step above dimmer)

battery @ 89%
no way in hell this phone can go near samsung's claimed talk time & standby time. guys do I have a defective battery or unit?

same like you. i used OCLF, then i uninstalled it and did the voodoo beta4.. same result like you..brightness can go one step lower (dimmer) but scrolling through the home screen it is chopping...

Ya, perli a bit la. tongue.gif

Seriously, though, iPhone4 is an excellent example of an almost perfect matching of OS and device (both from Apple ma). So for users who want a superb smartphone without having to fool/mess around with settings and tweaks and other techie 'headaches', go for the iPhone4.

I'm a tech-freak so the SGS give me ample opportunities to 'fcuk' around with the OS and phone. My first ever Android phone, this SGS, and it's been a lot of fun and pain so far.. biggrin.gif

Generally, when someone asks me, 'hi there, can you advise me which is better, iPhone4 or XXX', I will gladly tell them to go for the iPhone4..
*
the one thing i dislike about iPhone, is that to look at weather, you open an app. to look at stock, you open an app, you get the idea.. with Android and widgets I can have that all on my home screen.. press a refresh and I get all of it updated..no need to mess around the menu launching apps. not to mention its crippled on purpose without iTunes..

sorry but I don't like the things i paid for to be jailed. I should be able to do whatever I like on MY PHONE.

think different, thats why I take out a SGS when the whole table is full of iPhones. thumbup.gif
