Hi all,

We're going to Penang for 1st time nxt month but can only stay for 2 days, then continue to Sabah.

We'll be staying at Hotel Penaga, jalan Hutton.

I have been researching hawker food as I know Penang is famous for this.

So this is our list:

Hokkien Mee (Prawn noodle) -> a street stall in Air Itam, corner of Jalan Air Itam and Jalan Kampung Melayu. Or should I go somewhere else ? I love Penang Hokkien Mee (Har Mee) and so happy that I'll get to taste the real Penang Har Mee soon ;-)

Char Kway Teow -> Ah Leng, Corner of Jalan Dato Kramat and Dunlop Rd.

Penang Laksa -> Taman Emas Kopitiam, opposite Penang Chinese Girl School.

Nasi Kandar -> Line Clear, in Penang Road. BTW do they really open 24 hours ? YES

Curry Mee -> Tua Pui, in Pengkalan Weld (across from Clan Jetty)

BBQ chickenwings & Seafood -> Song River, pesiaran Gurney, at night (but from what time?). 6pm

I read about Chee Cheong Fun and wanton mee... but where should I go for these as I found so many recommended (different) stalls ?

Are stalls in New Lane worth going to ?

Would appreciate your suggestion/comment.. thanks! smile.gif

Since you are staying at Hotel Penaga, jalan Hutton. You can take an early morning stroll to 1Corner Kopitiam, Jln Bawasah, behind Penang Plaza.
Please reach there before 9.30am, to avoid disappointment.
Checkout location map and picta >> http://samlee86.com/2010/01/26/super-hokki...er-cafe-penang/

Are stalls in New Lane worth going to?
I suppose so for the tourist with limited time but to me they are expensive.
Most food there ok. Normal drink expensive better buy Can drinks.

Char Kway Teow -> Ah Leng, Corner of Jalan Dato Kramat and Dunlop Rd. <----good, love it

Penang Laksa -> Taman Emas Kopitiam, opposite Penang Chinese Girl School.

Nasi Kandar -> Line Clear, in Penang Road. BTW do they really open 24 hours ?

Curry Mee -> Tua Pui, in Pengkalan Weld (across from Clan Jetty) <----just to tell you, it's located beside a busy road, and some people might complain about hygiene due to it. you can go early at around 9am++ to avoid that, or if you don't mind, you can go around 3pm and eat the "ai yu bing" beside the stall. Then maybe can go and buy fried banana and potato and others opposite tua bui

BBQ chickenwings & Seafood -> Song River, pesiaran Gurney, at night (but from what time?). <----never like song river. If you want seafood in grill , maybe can try the East Coast BBQ at Sungai Pinang food court THIS

I read about Chee Cheong Fun and wanton mee... but where should I go for these as I found so many recommended (different) stalls ? <----for chee cheong fun i personally find that Seow Fong Lye Cofee Shop Chee Cheong Fun is good

Are stalls in New Lane worth going to ?

most should have know a bit it...but let me repost them

To those in the know, Penang is one of the world's top dining destinations. And street food--or hawker food, as it's locally known--is the city's big draw. Penang hawker food reflects the multicultural makeup of the town itself, which boasts citizens of Chinese, Malay and Indian descent. You'll also find a distinct Nyonya cuisine in Penang, the fusion food that has resulted from the intermarriage of Chinese and Malay immigrants

Quite right it is ok but on a world wide web, the very least they should recommend one of the best Penang have to offer.
And Penang have so many spots with very good ice kacang.

That is why I am always proud to be a Penang Kia. Eat till you drop! From KL to Singapore and you will see a lot of hawkers putting up "Authentic Penang Food" makes me even prouder.

p/s: their so-called authentic cannot eat one lol.

It is already open, one that is inside the market but it operates only in the morning up to 11am.

The night time hawker stalls in front of the market is from 6pm to 11pm.
