With the sudden influx of newbiew/n00bs who refuse to use the search function, and thus opening repeat topic/thread, here's the software corner's own super-newbie/n00b thread.

Why buy such expensive gadget and don't bother read the manual?

Please read the manual that comes with the iPhone. It's given to you for a reason and for you to understand the functions of the iPhone. Even Maxis and Digi provide a guide book stating where the speaker and mic is.

I hope this helps (the picture will do the talking): https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1548732/+1

Please read this as well: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281 and download the iPhone IOS4 User Guide.

For new users, PLEASE READ: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

For everyone to have a good laugh.

This is the dopiest thing that ppl can answer when they don't do a proper research or have no idea whatsoever what they ar answering. It's not the question that's wrong, it's the person who answer..he deserve massive facepalm..

Q: It keeps coming out error message like this:
Error 1920.Service Bonjour Service (Bonjour Service) failed to start.

The answer is: Bonjour is Apple Inc.'s trade name for its implementation of Zeroconf, a service discovery protocol. Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System service records.

This is what the forumer answer without knowing anything about Banjour: what language did u select friend?

HAHAHAHA..what a joke. Bonjour has nothing to do with language! We're not talking French here! Bonjour does not mean 'hello', kay?

Want more More?

Q: will upgrading IOS 4.0.2 to 4.1 clear all my data on the phone?

This is what the forumer answer without knowing anything about upgrading firmware: do not upgrade to ios 4.1, once upgrade ur ip will turn to ipad

HAHAHAHA..What the heck??? iPhone turn into iPad...lololololz.

Is it safe to use Iphone to do Internet Banking?
*
it is safe (provided that you don't jailbreak your iPhone)

to make my point clear, you can read this article
QUOTE
The app connects to ANZ's secure back-end servers, via Wi-Fi or 2G/3G internet. For security purposes, the app does not store customer details, has a self-time-out function, and cannot be loaded onto jailbroken iPhones. ANZ has also implemented the capability to block usernames in the event of loss or theft of merchants' iPhone

even it can be loaded, a disclaimer will pop up to inform you that your iPhone is jailbroken and this will shortly ensue.

i'm using my iPhone for CBA, commsec, westpac for my mobile banking.

Your money is protected and you are covered by Westpac's Security Guarantee as long as you observe Westpac’s Online Banking terms and conditions, including maintaining the security of your access codes and passwords.

Online security and fraud prevention is an ongoing and continuous process that Westpac take very seriously.

At the present time we do not believe the in screen keypad is required for Mobile Banking. The risk of compromise on a mobile device by malicious software is low. We are constantly reviewing security to ensure your account details and personal information remain safe.

which obviously suggest that your iPhone shouldn't be jailbroken for Westpac's Security Guarantee to take place

yes.

of course, the obvious one would be protecting your PIN/code in the public.

unless the bank is some dodgy one that doesn't protect its customers...

*
please place spoilers.

a few suggestions:

1. the firmware that you download may be incomplete or in error. try again, but this time with a download program like DAP.

2. try upgrading your iTunes

3. try upgrading the firmware to iOS 4.1

4. sometimes a weak/unstable internet connection can also hamper the activation/verification part

i have used the iPhone since the first generation and 3G and then 3GS.

i can assure you that the upgrade is worth it.

if you were at 3G, and looking to upgrade to 3GS, i would probably ask you to reconsider.

QUOTE(inganokusari @ Oct 18 2010, 08:56 PM)
Hi all,

I did a search within the forum and could not find this issue. I hope some of you sifus can help me.

I was charging my iphone 3GS in the car when I suddenly hit a bump on the road. The iphone just blacked out. I tried restarting the phone but its dead, got home and plugged it to the PC but it was not detected... I concluded my iphone 3GS is dead... short circuited...

I called up the customer care number of the local carrier that issued the phone but they cannot assist me until I send the phone to the center for them to evaluate the condition.

My questions if you all can help me..

a) Does the warranty covers "short circuited" events?
b) What is the process? Will they try to revive the phone or just replace it? (if the warranty is still applicable)
c) My data are very important and I dont want them to look into the phone... will they do that at the service center?
d) How long will this usually take?

Appreciate if you can at least help me. I am freaking out now....
Thanks.
*
sorry to learn about your predicament.

(a) if it wasn't inflicted by yourself. i'm pretty sure that it will be covered by the warranty because they will only typically check for the watermark gauges (if you don't know what is that, google it up)

(b) replace. one to one. unless they have changed the policy recently.

© no one cannot guarantee that. assuming that your unit was procured from maxis/digi, apple can't really stop anyone from snooping into your iPhone (well apple could too, but a much lesser likelihood). same analogy applies if you send your macbook air for repairs. it all depends on how trustworthy the personnel is.

(d) refer to (b)

white iphone 4 isn't out yet...

yet so many online video/photos shown use the white one...
if its originally white, how did they obtain it?
*
if you google further, you will also realise that a lot of peeps are selling the white casing itself.

just follow the DIY steps and you could, too end up with a white unit.
