Saw the video this morning. Although it looks interesting, it still packs the same screen as the milestone. I wonder if a quick mobo switch with the milestone can render it an 'upgrade' to the milestone 2.

u can get the droidX on ebay or any 3rd party seller but the phone must be activated verizon to get it running

btw, imagine if we have CDMA, surely only a few phones are usable and it leads to a bad development enviroment for android since android malaysia is such a small community compared to big countries such as the US. Malaysia better stick to GSM, or perhaps we should wish that those cool phones are released under supported GSM bands

been following this Milestone 2 since the announcement with Defy.. still no any news.. for me would buy Desire HD first
they just announce Flipside, Spice and Bravo and still theres no signs of Milestone 2
Motorola Droid series believed to have better battery consumptions against other android like HTC and Samsung.

Milestone 2 should be able to record at 720p which Droid 2 couldnt.
its like a slight upgrade from Droid 2 with other additional features.. by the time Milestone 2 is lpaunched on 17th November, Desire HD will be out from Maxis.. can compare both devices.. brows.gif not to mention the brand new device with Android that gonna be announced too (in Nov) from Samsung..

Actually Droid 2 global has a little different innards than Droid2/Milestone2. The proc for example is 1.2Ghz instead of Droid2's 1Ghz. Here's a leaked spec sheet

Motoblur make the phone lag even tho it has a fast cpu. Just switch to third party launcher such as launcher pro or adw launcher then it will be smooth as usual. Dont forget that it has full flash support and actually a proper phone that can play flash games on websites.

I just hate the buttons of the Droid X, Seems cheapskate. They should make it touch...

I found out that physical buttons are better than touch ones. Cause sometime while playing games or browsing will prompt to hit the buttons especially the home and search and thus automatically closing down the app. Just imagine you're in boss battle and the ******* almost go down when suddenly you hit home button. You'll be like noooooo, damn it! Throw down the phone on the floor and break it. Not that its gonna break if you're using Defy though biggrin.gif

have anyone purchase the droid 2 global yet?
i have read in XDA there are some call problem for Hong Kong user.
something with the 3G problem.
in Malaysia we're using HSDPA 2100 right?
but it is stated that the Droid 2 Global supports HSDPA 2100.
so can we really use Droid 2 Global in malaysia without any problems?
cuz im really interested in buying this phone.
if anyone bought it please give some feedback.

thanks in advance. smile.gif

Thx!

No, Droid 2 (aka Milestone 2 for GSM version) is 1GHz.

Droid 2 Global, just released last month, is updated with a 1.2GHz processor and is quadband, hence the Global in the name. Naturally that also means there is no Milestone 2 Global, since this is already GSM capable.

r2d2 edition is freaking make me drool.gif
but in the end, r2d2 is not global edition so cant be use here...
if u wanna get milestone 2,think twice because even in motorola support forum itself they dont even bother to fix the customer problem mad.gif sweat.gif
not to mention not a single update come out yet for this phone...
maybe because of the split into two companies, it will be a delay before things are up and running again...

it got dual band so can use here
eventhough it has bad esn, u can use gsm (bad esn only affect cdma)
i read at some forum, some1 oredi try using it cdma (U.S) and gsm (at china)
no problem
get unlocked if u r not sure

r2d2 is limited edition of droid 2 that comes only for verizon
so the spec is the same, juz it has r2d2 design on it...
click on me
if it can be use here, surely star wars fan here wont hesitate to bring it here quickly...

the build of qwerty keyboard for this phone is tough enough...
basically u can ask any milestone user here that has been use since early this year if they have problem with it icon_idea.gif
the slide mechanism dont have any spring on it, so it reduce the impact if u always slide it...

agreed
the qwerty mechanism is better than z hinge
except the keypad is small due to THAT tumbprint scanner AKA useless directional pad

QUOTE(spikee7 @ Jan 19 2011, 02:40 PM)
the spec between this two beast is quiet the same..
D2global comes with 1.2ghz processor...
but no problem coz milestone 2 also can overclock it to 1.2ghz  thumbup.gif
*
I think the only diff is 1.2GHz processor on the Global, vs 1GHz on D2/MS2. Storage (8GB onboard, 8GB SD) and screen are the same. Oh you get a more powerful battery with D2G too, but battery life is reportedly worse... haha.

QUOTE(willbeh @ Jan 21 2011, 04:35 PM)
Which should I get, Droid 2 Global, Milestone 2 or Defy. Unlocked from US about the same price. Defy seems to have more user base especially here in M'sia. Even at XDA.
*
Defy is very different from the D2G/MS2, it's specs are lower than the other 2, so it's a different class altogether. So I think your question is quite personal in that you need to decide what you want.

OK review time, but I'll only mention things worth mentioning....

Physical:
Bloody solid. Looks awesome. Keyboard hinge is nice and tight, doesn't feel like it'll break anytime soon. However, after only about 10 days with the D2G, I have returned it to x132755 for warranty claim..... the keyboard koyak! Some keys not working. Quite worrying, actually. I didn't even use the keyboard for most of the week! (I was using Swype a lot, love that shit). I hope the warranty doesn't take long.

Battery:
Damn bad. If you chat for an hour, your batt life will drop by maybe 30%. If you surf and play games, your batt life will drop by... a lot lah, I never really took note, but as much as 50% in an hour. Standby is ok, I've left wifi on while sleeping and it maybe only dropped 20% after 8-9 hours. Basically if you are going to play around with the phone a lot, make sure you have your chargers near you at all times. I have USB, wall and car chargers. However, I hear this is the same for all smartphones, including the Jesusphone (iPhone).

OS:
Some people complained about Motoblur but honestly it's not so bad. However, it could be smoother, so you can easily install another launcher and it'll be as smooth as HTC's Sense UI. If you're like me and like to experiment and customize your stuff (why else would you buy an Android!), you'd be glad to know the SBF for D2G is out now, so if you ever brick your phone while messing around while in root, you can restore it no problemo. However there's not much to customize as there are no custom ROMs for D2G yet, it's too new. Also worth mentioning again, Swype ROCKS.

Final verdict, I'm still pretty happy with the phone despite the problems I've encountered.

on the battery, ya itz kinda sucks if u are using it heavily..
u used any battery saver apps?u should try it...
i get more hours with it...
first when i get my phone, juz only with lock n unlock screen it cost me about 30% of the battery blink.gif
but after i used battery saver itz can hold up my battery about 1 half day with decent use...
on the Blur part, thats is true...
it is not buggy like other said...
maybe because of new processor...

No clue man, I didn't even use the keyboard much as I was using Swype a lot... my friend started playing with my phone and told me my keys weren't working.. haha... no physical damage, just stopped working. *sigh*.

No never tried any battery savers, what is that? An app? I was thinking I might downrate the processor speed to 800MHz just to save batts...

Added on January 25, 2011, 11:37 amOh speaking of processors; For all prospective buyers, one main point why I went with the fastest processor in the market instead of Desire Z or anything else is because when Honeycomb (Android 3.0) comes out, the minimum requirements is 1GHz. So Desire Z and Moto Defy won't be able to upgrade to 3.0.

I hope so too. Chan haven't called me yet. He gotta send back to the distributor to check the damage. I'm guessing it's hardware because I already reset the phone to factory settings and that didn't work. We'll see, we'll see.

Apparently when you buy it in the US it's locked to CDMA until you do a sim-card unlock and key in a code provided by Verizon. Once you do that the phone will be permanently unlocked for "Global" capabilities...

I guess the supplier already did that cos I bought 2 units from x132755 and both were unlocked out of the box.

Yeah 2 days after I got my phone I managed to convince someone else that it was possibly the greatest Android phone in the market now hehe...

And then 8 days later my kb died.

hahaha... well the other unit is still working fine, so it's just me having shitty luck.

Whatever, it's fixed now. I'm formatted it and now everything is back to working order. smile.gif

Haroldz123, no I sent it back to the person I bought it from, who would've sent it back to Genmatic Resources Sdn Bhd, the company providing the warranty.

lol, I'm trying to find a workaround to the battery drain without rooting the phone first.

does your phone's battery minus by the 10s?
like from 100, it goes straight to 90, then 80, so on.

I was puzzled how it goes this way.

haha thanks spikee7

will try that, was considering charging it 8 hours straight...

another trick that works on HTC phones, charge it till green on battery indicator, off phone, charge it again (it will show orange) until green also.
but I'm not sure if it works on motorola too.

so far morning till now trying this D2G, from full charge, on around 6.20am till just now about 7hours+ the battery left like 15%

I didnt play any games, just surf abit, call less than 3 calls, sms. tried motoblur FB. lol.. I'm starting to get a bit worried here.

there are few sellers in this forum itself.

Added on February 18, 2011, 10:07 amwanna check with you all D2G users, does your battery go down by 10s
like from 100 to 90, 90 to 80 and so on.

I notice this when I check the battery info. very weird.

EDIT: nevermind, seems like Motorola Droids are like that - http://goo.gl/inWOY

Added on February 18, 2011, 10:26 amRight, guys with Droid 2 Global, shall we move to this thread

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1758487

Easier to discuss stuff there, specifically to D2G.

hi all, been very very interested in getting an android phone, particularly milestone2 or d2g. just a simple question, is the phone prone to hang or freeze? i just worry that the phone might just freeze n off without me notice it as it happen to my previous windoze mobile phone, so frequent that i just throw away after using it for 1mths. smile.gif

letting go at RM1500 (nego). dealing in penang.

pro is u have 8 Gb for app. it's the biggest for app atm. sgs2 only 2Gb given.

con is the entire 8Gb is just for app only. your porn and everything need to store in external memory card.
