Woohoo just collected my Droid 2 Global from x132755, thanks for the very quick and easy transaction!

Time to mess around with it...

Thx!

No, Droid 2 (aka Milestone 2 for GSM version) is 1GHz.

Droid 2 Global, just released last month, is updated with a 1.2GHz processor and is quadband, hence the Global in the name. Naturally that also means there is no Milestone 2 Global, since this is already GSM capable.

QUOTE(spikee7 @ Jan 19 2011, 02:40 PM)
the spec between this two beast is quiet the same..
D2global comes with 1.2ghz processor...
but no problem coz milestone 2 also can overclock it to 1.2ghz  thumbup.gif
*
I think the only diff is 1.2GHz processor on the Global, vs 1GHz on D2/MS2. Storage (8GB onboard, 8GB SD) and screen are the same. Oh you get a more powerful battery with D2G too, but battery life is reportedly worse... haha.

QUOTE(willbeh @ Jan 21 2011, 04:35 PM)
Which should I get, Droid 2 Global, Milestone 2 or Defy. Unlocked from US about the same price. Defy seems to have more user base especially here in M'sia. Even at XDA.
*
Defy is very different from the D2G/MS2, it's specs are lower than the other 2, so it's a different class altogether. So I think your question is quite personal in that you need to decide what you want.

OK review time, but I'll only mention things worth mentioning....

Physical:
Bloody solid. Looks awesome. Keyboard hinge is nice and tight, doesn't feel like it'll break anytime soon. However, after only about 10 days with the D2G, I have returned it to x132755 for warranty claim..... the keyboard koyak! Some keys not working. Quite worrying, actually. I didn't even use the keyboard for most of the week! (I was using Swype a lot, love that shit). I hope the warranty doesn't take long.

Battery:
Damn bad. If you chat for an hour, your batt life will drop by maybe 30%. If you surf and play games, your batt life will drop by... a lot lah, I never really took note, but as much as 50% in an hour. Standby is ok, I've left wifi on while sleeping and it maybe only dropped 20% after 8-9 hours. Basically if you are going to play around with the phone a lot, make sure you have your chargers near you at all times. I have USB, wall and car chargers. However, I hear this is the same for all smartphones, including the Jesusphone (iPhone).

OS:
Some people complained about Motoblur but honestly it's not so bad. However, it could be smoother, so you can easily install another launcher and it'll be as smooth as HTC's Sense UI. If you're like me and like to experiment and customize your stuff (why else would you buy an Android!), you'd be glad to know the SBF for D2G is out now, so if you ever brick your phone while messing around while in root, you can restore it no problemo. However there's not much to customize as there are no custom ROMs for D2G yet, it's too new. Also worth mentioning again, Swype ROCKS.

Final verdict, I'm still pretty happy with the phone despite the problems I've encountered.

well said rclxms.gif
physical is solid enough...
but what happen until ur keyboard koyak? shocking.gif  sweat.gif
on the battery, ya itz kinda sucks if u are using it heavily..
u used any battery saver apps?u should try it...
i get more hours with it...
first when i get my phone, juz only with lock n unlock screen it cost me about 30% of the battery blink.gif
but after i used battery saver itz can hold up my battery about 1 half day with decent use...
on the Blur part, thats is true...
it is not buggy like other said...
maybe because of new processor...
if u dont wanna use it juz install other laucher rclxms.gif
*
No clue man, I didn't even use the keyboard much as I was using Swype a lot... my friend started playing with my phone and told me my keys weren't working.. haha... no physical damage, just stopped working. *sigh*.

No never tried any battery savers, what is that? An app? I was thinking I might downrate the processor speed to 800MHz just to save batts...

Added on January 25, 2011, 11:37 amOh speaking of processors; For all prospective buyers, one main point why I went with the fastest processor in the market instead of Desire Z or anything else is because when Honeycomb (Android 3.0) comes out, the minimum requirements is 1GHz. So Desire Z and Moto Defy won't be able to upgrade to 3.0.

I hope so too. Chan haven't called me yet. He gotta send back to the distributor to check the damage. I'm guessing it's hardware because I already reset the phone to factory settings and that didn't work. We'll see, we'll see.

Apparently when you buy it in the US it's locked to CDMA until you do a sim-card unlock and key in a code provided by Verizon. Once you do that the phone will be permanently unlocked for "Global" capabilities...

I guess the supplier already did that cos I bought 2 units from x132755 and both were unlocked out of the box.

Not yet dude.. sad.gif

Yeah 2 days after I got my phone I managed to convince someone else that it was possibly the greatest Android phone in the market now hehe...

And then 8 days later my kb died.

hahaha... well the other unit is still working fine, so it's just me having shitty luck.

Added on January 30, 2011, 10:57 pmBugger... I only had my phone for 2 weeks (and only used it for 1 week)... it's now already NOT the fastest phone out there.. check this baby out:

Haha.... collected the phone today. It's NOT supposed to be fixed but guess what, the keyboard is working. I see a gmail account setup, angry birds installed (wtf..) maybe someone was using my phone.

Whatever, it's fixed now. I'm formatted it and now everything is back to working order. smile.gif

Haroldz123, no I sent it back to the person I bought it from, who would've sent it back to Genmatic Resources Sdn Bhd, the company providing the warranty.

Tried any custom roms for the MS2?

There aren't any custom roms that are completed for the D2G yet so I am still waiting.
