Yeah I watch alot of anime as well, more last time but less recently... work gets busy sometimes.

I've always love the CLAMP universe though, with all their characters inter-relate to one another. Did you know that the two Chobit sisters appear in the latest manga - Kobato as well? Just minor characters though, and they were human.

I wouldn't go that far with the team thingy lol... and I'm more likely to team up with the bf than the girls.

Yeah I guess I started out being interested in Japanese since I was a kid, reading Doraemon and Saint Seiya, and I've always wanted to read it in its original context!

I'm taking N3 this year, and hopefully if all goes well I can take N2 next year!
And yeah I watched Lelouch of the rebellion too~ great one!
Btw it's "CLAMP"... not siham (clam) la LOL...

Sc2 was started partially because the bf plays it, and then I started it off with the trial account and got hooked.

I guess gamer girls mix around with girls who do the same things too, I have quite a lot of female friends who play games, but not all of them play SC2, unfortunately.

Yesh... Otaku has a really negative meaning in Japan...
Upon the mere mention of Otaku the normal japanese will look at you with contempt and slight disgust.
As their version of otaku are those fat, be-spectacled slobs who loves cat-girls and look at normal female like they would an AV actress... (seriously I'm not joking on this one)

What Danny Choo and his folks are trying to do is to change people's perception of Otaku, as in their opinion Otaku are normal people too, just with certain hobbies.

Personally, I agree that people don't need to be an Otaku to like anime, manga and the japanese culture, but I think no girls would like to be oogled at and be treated like a piece of meat/toy, like how the otakus are portrayed to do.

Yes, not many people actually "qualify" as an Otaku... =,= Just because I'm into anime/manga/japanese does not make me an otaku, I don't find the term "Otaku" as a positive or too negative a term either way.

By the way, the stereotyped definition I've mentioned earlier, was actually a word-by-word quote from a Japanese female colleague of mine who works in M'sia. That is a stereotype, I'm not denying it, and let's face it, which culture/race/sub-culture doesn't have at least one stereotype?

It's definitely not fair to stereotype anybody, but people do, and the otaku group is just one of it.

Oh yeah, just to add: "There are no girls on internet", "G.I.R.L." --> This is definitely a stereotype.

Nonono... stereotype =/= discrimination.

There are good stereotypes and there are bad stereotypes.

Like for example, Malaysians as a whole are stereotyped to be a friendly bunch of people (by the foreigners), now that's a good stereotype, ain't it?

Then there are also these modern terms where people are called "Starcraft Otaku" or "Manga Otaku" or "Jdorama Otaku" for those who are into a certain activity, these are the times when the 'Otaku' label is getting less negative than it was previously.

However the mainstream Japanese mainly call those people "Starcraft maniac" or "Jdorama maniac" instead of Otaku, as the word "Otaku" still has quite a negative portrayal from the olden days.

I'm not really a "Starcraft Maniac" yet, more like a "Japanese culture maniac"...

Everyday is SC2 SC2 SC2, really makan SC2, tidur SC2, minum SC2...

And since our close friends/colleagues are also in it, everyday is like cheese fest, cheesing our way to stack up the achievements... kinda not the right way to play the game I know, and after a while, it gets "jelak"... too much cheese... lol

Oh yes, I agree, in a lot of ways, 2D > 3D ^^

Japan is a land where some people go to the extent of marrying their beloved in-game character in an official wedding ceremony.

I notice people normally are quick to discriminate against the Japanese otakus who love their 2D partners, what about those people who marries / falls in love with things like... say.. the Eiffel tower... a katana... a carnival ride?
