Hehe, they'll bcome obedient as they grow, baby is the time where they're curious on everything around them
Now Miki follows us when we have a walk in the park, giving her more freedom but no when she sees other dog she's super anti social -.-

Just wanna do a check

Do you guys give your furkid tablets for Heartgard
OR
you give them ProHeart SR-12 injection?

I've given mine an injection earlier, but when I do a search on the net there's so many negative feedback on Proheart6, so are they really safe? I already jab her one round, will be due soon.

This was all done previously at the breeder.

@agnes.. abby ear fur so long liao!! now she looks like a lady =)

@suzzanneeee... not to worry too much since you gave the injection. The side effect only appears on certain dog, and its quite rare *according to vet* personally I choose heartgard, or similar product, that need to be given monthly.
*
Hmm ok, she took that with her last jab when she's around 4 months old, now nearing 12 months the jab only will last 9 months for puppies who took below 6 months ... Didn't have any side effect, she's up and running after a hour. Maybe I should just stick back to jab or ask the vet.

QUOTE(Divas @ Sep 20 2010, 05:01 PM)
Sorry to be a buzz kill/part pooper/evil person but posts like this make me cringe. Also excuse me if i am at all blunt, but it is sometimes hard to candy coat things without losing the meaning behind it.

1. If you ever want to buy someone a pet as a present make really REALLY sure they want one and can deal with the time/financial requirements. Generally it is best to allow them to come with you to pick the pet to make sure they bond with him/her. Even if you think you know them better than you know yourself better to be safe than sorry when dealing with a living thing.

2. I know this is a present for your girlfriend, but generally if you are adopting a dog (epsecially a pure breed) there will most likely be a reason why they are up for adoption (skin problem/developed bad habits through bad training/other health problems/"not so cute") so do you really want to give that kind of issue to your girlfriend.

3. Is your girlfriend in a better financial situation than you are? If you can't afford to spend RM2000 on a pup, can she afford to spend the money required to responsibly keep the dog (Food, Heartworm medication, Shampoo, Toys, Grooming trips, Vet trips etc.).

4. Not wishing to pass judgment on your relationship here but sometimes people break up. In the (i'm sure very very small) chance that this happens, what will happen to the dog. If it is a bad break up will she grown to resent the dog and either loose interest in taking care of him/her or give him/her up for adoption again.

5. Its great that you put up info explaining the experience you have with dogs, especially poodles in particular. But occasionally walking and feeding a dog when the owner is busy is a very different thing to having a dog of your own.

Finally, I can't repeat enough how important it is to make sure you are getting a decently bred puppy. It may seem like a lot to spend now but it will save you 10x as much in the future. Not to mention the heartache you save from not having to watch your dog go through countless rounds of antibiotics/medicated shampoos/injections to counteract bad breeding practices leading to skin problems, allergies and in later life more severe issues leading to a shortened life expectancy.
*
I can't agree more on what you said

No 3 statement - Many said if you can't afford to even pay for the pet then how can you be assured that you will provide him/her a good life later on, or you may end up putting the dog for adoption again. The dog very cham one ok, they will develop a sense of belonging after 4-5months of age. Just see, if you take your friend's dog away I'm very sure that dog refuse to follow you as you're not the master. Only you pay with your hard earned cash you'll appreciate him/her more. The expenses are really no where near cheap, I believe many owners here can tell you, probably RM50 up to RM500 a month or even more on medical (touchwood tongue.gif ). Full Grooming is the costly part RM80-120. Yearly jab plus heartgard is more than RM100 and if you're considering poodle, it's advisable to feed them good food which cost at least RM60+ a pack for 2-3months.

No offence but if you can't even afford the amount of RM200, do you think you can come out with those expenses every month?

Haha, I like statement 4, that's why I paid more for my dog instead of asking bf to pay.

Statement 5 - Yes, that's very true you often find ppl's dog cute until you have one by yourself, they're just like baby they need your attention 24/7 besides their sleeping time. Just place another example, if you're going overseas/outstation do you have backup plans on where to put the dog? Make sacrifices, you need to spare time to bath him/her every week. Also, when he/she is sick you would want to stay home or even be awake to take care.

I guess like what Divas mentioned, hardly anyone do put up the dog for adoption unless there's some sickness or maybe some leaving for other countries. Anyway all the best in finding one, else there'll be no hurry, get one only when you're out to work and have the ability to pay smile.gif

Harlo, I think got a few la I got ask if the eating one is better or the injection, Miki took once she was fine and the one in Malaysia is pretty safe so for forgetful minds like me I opt for jab RM120+ also same price for a year.

QUOTE(huey80 @ Sep 23 2010, 11:48 PM)
well, it works both ways..if u dont mind repeating, then it's ok. i admire u for being repetitive and taking effort to open polls on 'cheaper cheaper cheaper' etc. Not many will hv a rational mind even after reading all our advice. They will never know whats in store for them in rearing a dog until they HAVE a dog. So to them, we r just bullshitting. Unless there r those who r mature enuf and know how to analyse things for themselves - that know how to weigh the pros n cons of having a dog.

And becoz most if not all ur replies are lengthy with almost no grammatical mistakes, it does pose a challenge for some ppl who r not proficient in the language to really understand what u r trying to say. Google translations dont help much.
*
Yup tried telling a lot of them before I think in this forum, hardly any of them listen, they're really determined to get one. I can tell because I'm once like that I want means I want, when I got Miki I thought everything is gonna work perfectly until I reliase taking care of a dog is really not easy at all.
But glad that I never gave up and I really learned a lot, it is her that's teaching me how to be responsible instead. Like above mentioned You need to HAVE one to know the situation.

Not to look down But seriously if RM200 also cannot pay I have no idea how ru gonna rare that dog.

QUOTE(yeowa @ Sep 24 2010, 08:47 AM)
guys, how to train your pups not to bite you? I know messi have an itchy teeth, his bites will not injured me but if this becomes a habit, his bite might injured my fingers or hands at a later stage. He is very aggresive when comes to biting. sad.gif Last night while playing with him, my wrist got scratched by his sharp teeth.

Damn, he is learning to bark(like adult dog) yesterday. He barked two times at two different hour. I have to warn him no as we are staying in a condominium. sad.gif
*
Hahahha your turn now veliii good tongue.gif No la itchy teeth only, just tell him NO biting is not allowed or give him some good chew toys, greenies maybe? . I used to cage she's same like your situation now, very aggressive goes crazy when I let her out bite my baju all got hole, my hands also scratches after that start to give her freedom then slowly she stopped everything. Now not interested in shoes/carpet already.

Condo ... HAahaha good luck loh, eh which condo TTDI you're at already? I got a friend who smuggle the dog to stay inside also. But as long as not too noisy.

Hahaha correct ppl won't simply give away, I just met a neighbor, gave away Schnauzer reason too noisy barks too much
gave away pug - eats his own shit and pill cost too much
Now left with teacup poodle, starting live in house then currently living outside the yard cos at home got baby. She's a cute one but quite pity, so cold at night and really tiny I'm worried if anyone will steal or can get sick. I would adopt if one day they cannot afford to take care.

Right, I'm walking Miki every weekday evening purposely passby to see how's the lil fellor doing she's now 1 years 3 months but she's only like 6-7" of height and she's a Red one, carried her that day I knew the owner never bath her for at least 1 week plus to 2 week, she's filled with urine smell all around. I feel damn heartache and kesian T.T Adorable and like to stick to ppl, how can they treat her like that. Btw she paid 3k for her MKA got bloodline, leave in the yard?! Having baby doesn't mean you can ignore your once beloved pet, sad nya.

They will never let her back in again, that's what she said not in day time, night or whatever circumstances baby comes first wor. Thou my neighborhood got security but still that's such a small one, how I wish she can let me keep and I'll make sure I give her a very good life and whatever she deserve. I will definitely bath her every week, nowonder all the previous dog got sick etc. Sigh, I feel so sad about her now, but what can I do?

mad.gif very disappointing with that kind of ppl~i would advise that kind of ppl not to have any dog or pet~ vmad.gif
we should think twice before getting a pet because we have the responsibilities to keep them save and love them through out their life~
why cannot keep dog inside because they have a baby!! my friend also let their dog inside when they got baby~they not only have one dog..they have two dog.they also let their baby play with the doggie..what is the problem when letting your dog inside the house when you have baby..scare the dog will have disease???!!!
if they really scare then let other people adopt the doggie, dun let them suffer..

Suzanne, go and ask them to let u adopt..support you~
*
I guess she's afraid the dog is dirty or may bite and fur around the house, maybe they have no idea that poodle hardly shed, provided if we comb them everyday dead hair will be on the comb (they got no time mah ~).

I will definitely not do that to my dog in future even I have a baby, I mean what's wrong how can a dog harm a baby in any way, as long as the owner knows how to position themselves letting the dog know that the baby is part of the family now and things remained unchanged other than having another one living in the house to play with in future. Should make them watch more youtube videos on how those large standard poodle and golden retriever play with the lil few mths old babies, they're really gentle.

Ok, I shall ask them the next round when I walk my dog around the neighborhood, hopefully no rain in the evening next week tongue.gif Thinking if they've bath her already, poor girl.

@divas revolution is d apply on. Very expensive. About RM30 per tube. Vet recommended use two days before and after shower to make it more effective as it is an expensive spot on. Will wait for ur tips ya. smile.gif

Oppps forgot LOL, I think is not willing to let go for a lifetime hahaha go buy another one for your parents.

Actually spot on is really effective, but Messi still small not sure if u wanna use that soon. After using that can try walking on grass the fleas hardly even wanna come on or even got 1 and 2 they just died eventually.

@suzanne Are you refering to spot on (Frontline/Revolution)? How much does frontline cost. Revolution if used for long term would cost RM360 per year. lots of money. Hehe... Heartgard+frontline cheaper than revolution or revolution itself is a better option? Hehe... You know la, I want to buy other stuff for him and will overspent for him... tongue.gif

@huey80 I read this on the newspaper today. Sad case. I guess we need to look out for the big sized practising certificate of the vet.

@divas Thanks a lot for the tips on biting training. I read over my hp and will reread again on my pc later. Reply you in a while ya, I am in KB connection very slow. tongue.gif

@paige Take your time to settle down and come back here and visit us when you are free. smile.gif Relax and cool down ya... smile.gif Messi now know how to crawl, play dead and turn turn dy lor... hehehe.... tongue.gif
*
I forgot I think frontline cost around RM70 or so for the small yellow pack inside there's 3 tubes, each tubes can last at least 30-45days but for Miki like lasted quite a while, I don't put unless there's a need. Actually don't need too put frequently.
Frontline actually works quite well not sure if work on Messi can try and see.

They will definitely have to produce a medical card to show the jab that the puppy have taken and you should see a official vet chop there, go head and call the number to check. If no medical card or any vaccine taken, my advice is not to buy, shop may be safer if breeder there's many cases of the puppy from Thailand infected with parvo, so becareful.

After that monitor he/she for a week or so, sometimes the virus will not show up until a period of time.

Cert is only if your puppy is MKA registered. Should be a medical card, vaccine actually no cert one, there's this label on the bottle that they can stick on the card and chop by the vet and the date on the vaccine taken. 3 jab a year for puppy until he/she finishes don't bring them out to anywhere and 1 year subsequently. Don't forget heartgard.

*
Make noise? What kind of noise? I guess he/she wants your attention, but don't always layan else will be a habit, then he/she taught I make noise than I get whatever I want and will continue. Or do you mean barking? If you're caging, maybe he/she don't like that's why make lots of noise and not use to the new environment.

Normally I bath her the day before on that day tself before I send her for jab. Then 6-7 days can bath her again. Just like the usual routine of bathing her once a week. Just that you cannot bring her out until the last jab.

*
First is your garden filled with grass? If yes, better not due to flea and ticks and she's still very young, not advisable to put frontline on her so soon also tick fever is very serious as she's still so young. If normal ground you really want to let her play around just keep an eye on her, like the above mentioned, people will steal. Also, if there's any dog/stray dogs near your neighbourhood or so if they're in contact the disease will spread. Just keep her in the house for another 2-3 mths if can, that won't be so hard right?

Poodle is the type which is very active, that can't be helped at all whether you let her out or what, get some toys for her? A ball to play fetch perhaps, chew toys? Kongs to keep her occupied? She make noise just ignore and let her be. They'll eventually learn that somethings don't work by whining.

I would say depends, what food did u feed her, answer is yes they do poop within the hour or sometimes may not but they should do at least one day once. Did she drink enough water?

Try Pet Esthe series, they're one of the best selling. I heard Yu and bubble bath is filled with chemicals that kept the scent for one long week.
I heard the Pet Esthe Mud ones are pretty good, I want to upkeep my poodle's colour so I use the Brown colour shampoo.

If the scent is long lasting meaning the chemical is very heavy, bad for the skin. I put perfume also gone in few hours, LOL.

I wouldn't recommend using a strongly perfumed (or long lasting perfumed) shampoo as it dries out the coat and damages the skin.
but if you use a good shampoo most of the time it shouldn't cause problems.

I agree that all brown specific shampoos smell really bad sad.gif . I use a perfume after the shower to cover up the smell biggrin.gif. The Percell one is REALLY good, works great on boys and girls.

I heard Pet Esthe is really good, but haven't been able to find the supplier for it as yet. Can you give me an idea of the price?
I use Chris Christensen range for pretty much everything as that is what i was taught with in school and i find it to work well for pretty much everything, but it is hard to get hold of and there are plenty of other decent shampoos out there.
As an extra thought... has anyone ever tried the Avoderm shampoo?
*
Colour series is about RM60+, Spa Mud Series 120+, Charcoal others I think around RM70+
But I tried Yu bubble bath really smells good the scent lasted a week, which I think may damage the skin.

I have heard decent things about Yu and know of 1 grooming salon that uses it (or at least used to). But i haven't tried it myself... actually come to think of it i'm pretty sure i have some samples lying around the shop somewhere, perhaps i will do a test and get back to you sometime....
I generally follow the principle that if it smells strong and the smell lasts a long time (excluding medicate shampoos that stink anyway), it probably isn't that good for your dog's skin and coat.
If you want a lasting smell and don't like any of the perfume products, you can always try mixing in a strong conditioner to your shampoo (although be warned this will make the coat take much longer to dry... like A LOT longer), or get conditioning treatments done during your professional grooming sessions.
*
Seriously you should try Yu, the scent really lasted for one whole long week even I bring her out for walks.
Sigh, my dog's shampoo and conditioner is much more costly than mine? Am I mistreating myself or I treat her too well? HAHAHHA

If u r using Pet Esthe colour restoration range, u shud get its colour conditioner to 'lock' the colour after shampooing.

Pet Esthe brand is all natural/environmentally frenly. U can even use the white shampoo on coloured dogs like shih tzu. It contains no bleach.

The SPA mud works magic for poodles with thick coat - detangles easily. It has given my poodle son less 'suffering' when brushing him after bath.

Normal that she'll catch a fever or having less appetite after the jab probably 2 days or so. Sometimes when they play also you carry them you realise their body temperature will increase - same like human.
