Teacup poodle is not in MKA or AKC. Teacup poodle are actually sick or weak dog. Their lifespan are normally much shorter as compare to the toy size. Take good care of Genia, k? smile.gif

I guess she's just tired don't worry so much, you should know dog sleep a lot right esp when they're still baby. Even human you work so much on day time at night we eventually feel very tired.

QUOTE(huey80 @ Oct 5 2010, 10:15 AM)
I think what Divas meant was those breeders who deliberately breed/make poodles into teacup size is not good. Many yrs ago, when we 1st started to hear abt teacup poodles, these pups were actually given injection to stunt their growth. Thus, their lifespan was just ard 4-5 yrs max.

This is different from the more natural existence of teacup sizes. Meaning it;s a coincidence. For example, i never thot my Coco would be a teacup as her mummy is a tiny toy and dad is ard 11inches. COco was their first litter and 2nd child (only 2 pups). And yes, i do think her immune system was weaker comparatively when she was still a pup. She cud be coughing n coughing and after 3 visits to two diff vets still coughing. Then i decided to let her recover naturally - no more antibiotics and i changed her food. After that, she became stronger 8 mths onwards. 8 mths u know!! OMG!!
*
Right their outcome surprise you. Breeding two teacups may end up to be a toy instead and every siblings vary. hahhaha, the first litter is always the best right? tongue.gif

I didn't know there's such combination ... but feels weird because frontline is targeting fleas etc and heartgard in heartworm which is internal. 2 serve different functions, I do wonder how both can work at the same time.
Revolution is internal or external use?

Right everyone will just stick to what they're familiar or comfortable with, if so far so good I don't think we really need to change the routine.

Whereas for me I chose the heartgard SR-12 jab, so far so good started since she was only 4 months old and just took another one to last until next year. I opt for yearly instead or giving every month because I'm pretty sure I may forget one day tongue.gif

Then for frontline this has been working very well for me as well, once she caught soooo much of them until they climb all over my house walls and floor. After frontline usage for around 2-3weeks results start coming in and lasted longer than what I thought ..

Here's the pic:

[attachmentid=1839333]

can bros here tell me what i need to take care? when can bath ah?
*
Supposed that a puppy must get his/her first jab before you even bring home, how old is your puppy? The vaccination should be taken asap and 1 week later doesn't really sound right. He/she must take at least 3jab by 4months plus then only can be allowed outside. They're immune system is very low at this time, do take good care of them. With the 3 jab and don't forget heartgard, either feed or jab will do, your choice.

You should check with the pet shop, when's the last time they bath the puppy. After a week then only bath her again. Always bath her before taking a jab, because after jab you can only bath her after around a week or so. There's a lot to take care actually, too broad unless you post the specific questions here and many will give you the answer.

hi suzannetan, they bath my puppy on last thursday.can i use wet warm cloth to clean the puppy's fur everyday? Oh ya how come my puppy like very moody leh?always lie on the floor, not really want to play with me , is it still small or it haven't close with me?how much food should i give to my puppy per day?
*
Right like what Divas said, puppy shouldn't have left their mum before 2 months old, that's the time where they still need the nutrient from the mother's milk and also at time of learning and being around with the siblings etc. There's no such things as too small, which I've never heard or read anywhere before which vaccine can't be taken, my girl took her first jab when she's 5 weeks nearing 6 week old, I bought her when she's 7 days old but a responsible breeder will take care of her until 2 months at least.

Actually it's not required to wipe her fur everyday if she stay at home she's not really dirty anyhow? Their skin and fur is made to keep them clean, they're not like human needing to bath everyday. If you wipe her and she's wet, she may get a cold. It's better that you just bath her after a week with warm water and please do blow her dry (do this indoor).

Most of the things were taught by my breeder, he gave me at least half an hour talk before I brought my girl home. The pet shop didn't tell u much about taking care portion?

She's tired or not interested to play may be due to few reasons. 1 new home she's not use to being separate with the mother and siblings. 2 monitor her, if she's always like that check her stools and other sign if she's sick. If yes, send to the vet immediately and not to the shop (bcos the way you describe seems like they're not quite responsible). Normally poodles are very active breed, they love to play and jump around.

but still my opinion is to send her to get a jab asap and not delay, delaying 1 day or even 1 second meaning she's living without proper immunity. Sorry not to scare you but if you do read, many such cases happened or happening ..

QUOTE(kenneth_koo @ Oct 19 2010, 02:27 PM)
Good day everyone,

I was informed of some bad news this morning by my girlfriend, apparently my toy poodle, Teddy that i got 2 months ago was from a blacklisted breeder in petfinder.com. There has been many cases where newly purchased pups are diagnosed with parvo or distemper virus few days into ownership and not many has able to fight the deadly virus. The breeder goes by the nick name Cylos Siang or QQpoodles, I believe most of you might have heard of him.

I have to admit to my fault for not performing a thorough background search of the breeder before getting the pup from him, but let bygones be bygones.

The good news is that 2 months has gone by and Teddy is doing fine, appetite is good, energy level is high and everything seems to be good. I do have to note though that Teddy was diagnosed with parasite that was caused by ticks as explained by the vet on the 2nd week. The doc gave him antibiotics and Teddy was as strong as a bull since.

After reading all the bad reviews and all the diseases that seem to be associated with this particular breeder, my girlfriend is in constant worry since.

I know there will an incubation period of 1~2 weeks when a puppy picks up a certain virus, correct me if i am wrong. Teddy has been with us for 2 months now, everything is fine except for the occasional sneeze that drives my girlfriend in panic mode(is it ok?). I would like to know can i safely assume that Teddy is the lucky few that was able to avoid the deadly viruses from the breeder or is there anything i need to do? Is a full medical checkup necessary?

My girlfriend is really shaken up by the news, worrying that Teddy might end up like the other unlucky puppies. I really hope to hear from opinions from you guys. Thanks
*
2 months should be enough, but just wait until he completely finish the 3 jabs and after a week. Don't worry too much, Teddy may just be the lucky one and strong one among them, that's why he's living until today or down the road if 15years or so smile.gif
My girl do sneeze once a while too but not too often, I think that's ok.

Nowadays too many of these irresponsible breeder and seller, they do anything just to earn money without caring about quality and the live of the little ones. Just yesterday I saw in SS2 pasar malam, these couple brought 4 poodles with them and trying to sell and keep saying "We got all kinds of colours and breed, tell me what you want I can give you..."

I was like WTH, you human in pasar malam also you felt HOT enough, how about those poodle with thick fur coats and keeping them in the cage at the roadside? They shouldn't be brought out at all, when they're still so young. Whilst this seller let everyone that passes by touch the poodle, imagine Aunty hands' pick fish, vege, fruits and etc, how dirty is their hand ...

They're another one of those irresponsible ppl, don't know what's wrong with the attitude of the society these days ...

QUOTE(kenneth_koo @ Oct 19 2010, 03:50 PM)
Thanks Divas for your swift reply,

I am currently giving Teddy dog kibbles from Brit but switching over to Artemis soon. I believe both of these kibbles are good food but of cause Artemis would be the better of the two. Is supplements necessary because I don't really know much about dog supplements at the moment. Are the supplements used for general well-being or are there specific supplement for specific needs.

I am very glad that I did not recommend any of my friends to the breeder. I have to say he was rather friendly when i first approach him, I guess all good/bad breeders would be nice at FIRST. Regarding the parasite, I forgot the exact names but i wrote it down somewhere at home, will post it up later. The parasite was found after doing a blood smear for Teddy, actually there were two types of parasites found in Teddy's blood. I think one of it was babesiosis and the other i forgot. It seems like one of the parasite was considered rather dangerous while the other not so.

Only oral medication was provided for Teddy in the form of antibiotics, I am pretty sure it was antibiotics. Again i have to check the name for the antibiotics but the vet mentioned that the given medication was the best in the market. The doc did mention that the medication would stain Teddy's teeth, which seem to be the only downside of the medicine.

Teddy is now tick flea after using Frontline and constant look out for ticks on his body.

About his sneezing, i am sure it is not reverse sneezing but it is more like how a human would sneeze. When Teddy sneezes it would usually be single sneeze of one time or continuously up to 3~4 times. This doesn't happen all the time, only occasionally. Is this a sign of allergy or just Teddy trying to remove foreign object from his nose?

I believe my girlfriend would be on a constant look out for any symptoms from today onwards, which i believe is good. That was how we found out about the tick parasite in the first place since he became less active all of a sudden. It was lucky we had the doc do a blood smear before proceeding to give Teddy his vaccine jab, or else it would be very stressful for Teddy if he took the jab.

Once again, thank you Divas for your precious info and suggestions. Will keep everyone informed if anything were to come up =)
*
Artemis is good I guess you can opt for that brand. My princess at home eats home cook meal specially made for her and mix with kibbles tongue.gif
Supplements is necessary to up keep the skin, fur coat, teeth, bones etc For instance I'm feeding My Beau for her maintain her fur coat and skin, so far works well, the fur coat turns out to be kinda shinny. Also feeding another multi vitamin in tablets which is for her teeth and bones.

go to a vet and get ur pup check up and get the 1st jabs~
do not bring her out/meet with other animals until she finished her 3rd jabs~

*
Sorry your puppy is a male or female? I'm always thinking if I should type he/she LOL
He bark is because he wants your attention, and everytime you layan him he's gonna continue because he know that trick of barking works and you having obey to him which is not good. I would say if you can tahan or your neighbours etc don't complain, if can just let him be, he will naturally stop once he know barking don't work. Btw where is the cage? Near you or somewhere outside/backyard etc?

Depends on you if you want to keep him in cage or how.. if he still don't know how to pee and poo, it's best you keep him inside at night or u may have a mess in the morning. Cage doesn't work for my girl she'll whine big time (I spoiled her very much, comply to her every time, bad example of me, don't learn tongue.gif) in the end I put her in playpen and she stopped barking ever since then .. now cage/playpen practically useless, she's free to go wherever she wants.

Alright, that's what the groomers are telling me. They say if don't shave the fur won't be curly and thick. Apart from easily catching a cold, would there be other complications?
*
Not true, I've never shave my girl before other than cutting it really short, but recently forced to do so due to tangles...
I've seen some people keep shaving their poodle to get thick coat and the 'curli-ness' they want but in the end failed, turned out the fur became less and colour faded. I'm hoping that this shave will not take my girl's red colour away, I really didn't wanted to shave.
There's some cases that it works also, so depends on you lah ...

Adopt??? Doubt you can adopt one so easily, normally people won't give away unless the puppy/dog have some medical issue or they're migrating...
Which type of poodle... toy, miniature, standard, teacup, price also varies
Toy is at least RM700(from breeder) , pet shop double the price, mka even higher
also bare in mind that poodle does need a lot of care and attention, your money will be spent of buying the things like supplements, injection, heartgard, food, cage, treats, toys etc, that cost is like x2 x3 of the price you pay for the puppy

really... no woh, depends la... wink.gif
supplements is subjective... my cammy does not take any...
injection and heartgard is yearly event after the 1st few months... and i don cage my cammy even i have 1... toy and treats is not that compulsory... i used old socks to make like a ball and jusco free teddy... she likes that a lot... treats just about RM10~20/month or maybe less... food depends on owner, i give premium food so every month is around RM100 lo... grooming is did it myself i only go for every 3 months once... so depends... smile.gif
*
Everyone have their ways, so I'm not saying you're wrong but just sharing my personal opinion blush.gif

I think supplement is essential for long term benefits and it really does make a different I would say, for instance after eating my beau (costing RM70+) a pack her fur coat got shinny and colour also darken. Also vitamins are essential to up keep healthy teeth and bones esp when they're puppy so that they'll grow in good shape. You may not see a difference now, but when they grow old by year things may change. So it's always best to feed them supplements when it's not too late.

Thou injection is yearly but one time cost is at least more than 50 as well, heartgard even more expensive.. Toy for me is essential to keep her busy and something to play with when I'm not around, for puppy toy may take away chewing behavior. Treats is when you want to make her learn some tricks, without treats you can hardly do it. Also as a way of praising when enforcing a good behavior for long term. I don't make my own toy because I have no time to do so, it's good that you do nod.gif There's some toys that I wouldn't give her, esp furry ones because I'm afraid the fur may drop and she will eat

Cage is all depends on the owner, essential for me when she didn't know how to poop and pee properly and when I use to train her during puppy. Don't want her to go chew everything in my house. But now adult no longer need to be caged.

Probably it's because I spoiled my girl very much laugh.gif I spend much in buying bed, clothes, accesorries. Treats as well I always buy the ones from japan which easily cost 10-20 a packet. And she eats salmon tongue.gif
