As said by topic I would like to plan out a backpacking trip with a few of my close college buddy. And since this is the first time Im planning it, I would like to start it locally and then only proceed to overseas if succeed.

Any sites to recommend based on personal experience? And usually those bus tickets and cheap hotels need to plan and book beforehand or we can buy it on the spot? (Non-peak season)

I would suggest backpacking from KL (or wherever you are) to Chiangmai

Bus ticket n cheap hotel (backpacker hotel) is available all the time except if it is a major holiday or event like songkran and etc.

the main thing you gotta pay attention to is your daily budget. Plan your daily expenses like RM50-80 per day should be sufficient per person on backpackers budget

Yes we will surely start from KL because we are all from KL. And then take our trip to the outskirts. Maybe some pulau too. But for sure we will not consider taking it out of Malaysia yet since we all have to convince our parents.

Your soon is when? We plan to do it on non-peak season of course.
