This might be out of topic but are people in UK generally racist towards the Asians?
And is there such thing as it is more difficult for Asians to get admitted into good universities or getting a scholarship?

*
nope, it is compulsory that the fund must be in the account for a consecutive 28days. else u will only face rejection.

@jeanyl, about the extra student allowance on the GRAD card, seriously only applicable to certain ticket class? blink.gif .. oh man, my MAS ticket was bought during a promotion 'MHlow' offer .. hope its included! ..

QUOTE(likimikuku @ Aug 28 2010, 02:31 PM)
Dear All,

As I’m planning to go for my next year September intake, I would appreciate bro & sis here can provide their Visa application duration.

This may also serve as our LYN guideline, I understand that the current UK Board have stated the duration of visa application in their page and will be update in every end of the month.

I am not confidence with the result as it is only stated in monthly per percentage basis.

If possible, please stated you application process as below:

Application form submitted to Uni: xx Aug 20xx
CAS received:  xx Aug 20xx
Medical check: xx Aug 20xx
IELTS : xx Aug 20xx
Submission of Visa: xx Aug 20xx
Receive Visa: xx Aug 20xx

Please provide any steps where I have been miss out,
Thank you very much,
*
There is no definate answer in this world, if u have read, visa application itself takes around 6 to 9 days and varies according to the application-load. ppl take the initiative to update the website once there r any changes, and u still have no confidence?
I guess u need to read more urself, rmb there are no spoonfeeding in the UK unlike our country here.

after attending the UK pre-departure breifing by the BC M'sia, i feel that alot students and parents totally rely on others for information rather than digging out and searching themselves, its bloody irritating, for your (i mean them) own sake! its higher education u r going after please do more research and only ask if u r totally uncertain.

QUOTE(johnseamus @ Aug 28 2010, 09:07 PM)
hey guys,

i have a question here. i understand that if a source of funding of my studies is not under my name (my parents) therefore i need a letter of consent and my birth cert to confirm the relationship and certify my funds.

However, my parents have a few FDs which are joint named with my aunt, so my question is , do i need another letter from my aunt to certify her consent as well? or is the one from my parents enough as the FDs are free for all, which means any one of them named in there could withdraw full amount. thx
*
hmm.gif hard to determine in this case, but for me i would 'play safe'. Submit the mentioned letter by ur aunt.

The brittish guy from the BHC says that getting a visa to UK is as easy as A B C as long as u got all the required documents. Even if u were deported from the UK many years ago, if u have the evidence and documents supporting u, u will also be granted a visa.
forgot to addon, plz be as honest as possible, it was mentioned that the BHC have the rights and can easily trace out any faults or any sorts of false statement and u will get rejected immediately. A simple case would be those who got their 1st application rejected, when they submit their 2nd application, they either left the part "Have you been rejected a visa before?" unanswered or choose No, their application will once again get rejected.

Hi,

anyone here apply through some sort of agent like uni-ed? Any contact I can have?

u can try mabecs, their reviews seems to be good. some forumers have gone through their application successfully with Mabecs

QUOTE(likimikuku @ Aug 30 2010, 02:10 PM)
Yup, i am still not confidence. Spoonfeeding??  laugh.gif
Dun be a smart kid, when your earn your own tuition fees and pay your family bill, then you talk to me..

if you do not have any good answer or reply please just leave it...

i done my research, go read what i post and i just want to get some "personal data"....is that something wrong for asking extra info?

Higher education?? typical Asian mentality will never go far for kids like u...please be polite and dont think that you are the smartest A$$ on earth.
*
How about meeting up and showing proof to each other of who is paying for my own bills then, smart grandpa! laugh.gif
No confidence then y ask here? as far as typical asian mentality goes, they have no confidence in others' words/actions other than they themselves.
Polite u say? i may and may not be the smartest fella on earth but who r u on earth to judge others and calling other names that u assumed urself? I was merely speaking as an neutral and u assume that i am 'attacking' u. Sorry about that, i meant not to offend, but then y with all the defensive statements? Please be polite to urself and not to make assumption too much. How i wish i could continue staying and being a kid but oh well, everyone grows and hopefully wont be like u making assumptions in others. How sad. sad.gif

Well, i wish u all the best and hope someone else would reply to ur personal data collection. Good Day smile.gif

sounds very chaotic now, do i need to wait this long even if i had made an appointment in advance and i arrive on time? going to submit mine later this week
*
Yeap its very chaotic and crowed with both parents and future students to be. I would suggest make an appointment and get there early before the appointed time. The guard or personnel there will gladly give u a queue number 10 to 15mins before ur appointed time. Just make very sure that u have all the required documents so that everything can go smoothly and quickly. icon_rolleyes.gif

thanks for the advice mates, a friend recommended me to take Airasia to London since its alot cheaper, anybody else doing this? their baggage allowance is really insufficient and im afraid of delays and other things. and yeah Mabecs is good for me as im using them and their response is really fast and the director Ms Nimmi is very helpful
*
Do take note that Airasia lands on Stansted airport, if i am not wrong most meet and greet programs are only on either Heathrow or Gatwick or both. But if u r travelling to the university urself, depending on where it might be a good thing since public transportation at Stansted are good.
Trying applying for ISIC, International Student Identity Card, some flight carriers provide extra baggage allowance to students with ISIC.
website @ http://www.isic.org/home.aspx

another cheap alternative is Thai Airways, around RM1.6k with transit at Bangkok for 3 to 12hrs. Not sure about current rates.
If baggage is a problem, u can try emirates. more info on it by Balaclava at post #28 and #31.

did you book any appointment ahead? i guess majority of you guys didnt book any appointment or is vfs just as screwed up as our gohmen agencies?
*
cant blame vfs, the time i submit my application took only around 15mins ... but for my friend, he went with appointment few weeks ago and he waited for over 1hr ... the reason he said parents with their child at the counter were talking non-stop with the officer (i wasnt present so i suspect they r asking a bunch of questions), now i understand why vfs officers looks like 'dead fishes' ... btw the guards look 'pro' .. haha

ok, now my turn to ask question:

Can anyone confirmed that Emirates is giving out 40kg to students? or only 30kg?
I couldn't find any official information from the Emirates site, and none that i knew has been with Emirates LATELY, so I wasn't that sure if this 40kg luggage allowance is applicable or not.
*
QUOTE(angelzz90 @ Aug 31 2010, 11:24 AM)
I have the same doubt as well.. I actually e-mailed them to ask but they reply saying that the weight limit is still 30kg for students  sad.gif  anyone who use emirates can clear this doubt?

QUOTE(cherriedpie @ Aug 31 2010, 08:22 PM)
bank letter details should have

if account holder is the visa applicant

account holder name
account number
account holder's I/C
account holder's funds in account
funds in the a/c as at date hereof have been maintained in the a/c for at least 28 days
funds are readily available and can be withdrawn anytime
letterhead (bank logo)
signature by bank officer

if account holder is not the visa applicant ~ account holder is visa applicant's parents

everything in the above list AND
relationship to account holder
account holder willing to undertake financial responsibilities for visa applicant's studies in the UK
visa applicant's I/C & passport number (either one should do, but both is OK)

YAY TS should edit this into first post cos I'm quite sure a lot of people would be wondering what a bank letter needs and honestly, the one provided in the UKBA website is quite vague compared to what is really needed by the BHC.

Other posters should add what they think is needed in the bank letter.

* corresponding means the account number in the letter must match the account number you provide
^ If you went to the UK pre-departure briefing organized by HSBC, the George guy from VFS recommended you to bring original FD cert. However, I think it's very risky to bring your original FD cert! The VFS officers will take ALL your documents (they took my original birth cert and original English qualification cert agh!!!!) ... in this case if they take your original FD cert you might as well say bye-bye to your FD cert ... The only way you can reclaim money from your FD account is by proof of your FD cert and if that is gone, well your money is gone so... try to get a certified true copy that is stamped by the bank and signed by a bank officer.
*
totally different for my application, i submitted my FD certificate and others in original + photocopies .... they took my photocopies and gave me back all the originals one, even the bank letter ... but mistakes do happen, thats y u r required to fill up the given document checklist before submitting ur application ..

QUOTE(cchoo @ Sep 1 2010, 01:47 AM)
Well I passed my dad's original FD cert to VFS and it came back in one sheet smile.gif

Prior to giving the original FD cert to VFS, go to the bank, get them to make a photocopy and certify that it's a true copy. At least you'll have that as an insurance. From my experience, if you need a bank letter or the bank to certify any statements, best to do it a the smaller branches, if that is possible.

Think it's best to just hand over the original FD cert to VFS, why would you want to get your visa application rejected?
*
Fully agreed thumbup.gif , its better to be safe then sorry ...

@c-note, ICL is located in London itself. Cost of living there is much much higher compared to other county. if i am not wrong the GBP10k from the uni website includes everything of ur maintenance (eg, play, accommodation, eat, study, etc)

QUOTE(C-Note @ Sep 14 2010, 08:15 PM)
Hey guys whats the difference between Melbourne and say, London? Im speaking in terms of cost of living
*
QUOTE(fullstop @ Sep 14 2010, 08:26 PM)
It's like comparing KL and Kuching. Well you get the idea.
*
nope, i dont think u can compare by using kl and kuching. as both the mentioned city are big and competitive in their strenght ... how can it be comparing kl and kuching?! though i havent been to kuching i dare say kuching doesnt have a building which are over 40floors ..
In my findings last year, i have concluded that both cost of living in a australia and england is almost the same. of course it defers if compared a countryside to a city.
IMO and some findings, i find that is almost the same in melbourne and london, of course i do not have solid facts to support. but i got my findings from my uncle who is working in london & a friend in UCL, while ALOT of my same age friends are in australia esp melbourne (out of 10:4 ratio of ppl i know). I dunno y but my hometown here, folks are very fond of australia and everyone of them are taking those super long courses so they can get a PR there.
Both london and melbourne are big cities, so cost of living wouldnt differ much ... some might say melbourne higher as maybe due to tourism, and there will be some who will say london as it is a big business city .. i would say there is no determined answer unless one have gone and lived in both wonderful cities b4 drool.gif
that is one of the reason y i chose England over Australia ... feel like being different from my friends and go further away from them, esp when they come back and keep speaking their australian slang to me ...

edit: sry for typos .. lol

as for exchange rate, its very subjective ... pounds might be higher than australian dollars but actual cost of living might balance it out ... maybe eating a sandwich in london might cost 2gbp while in melbourne it cost aus$5 ...

btw, my cousin told me that if low on cash and wans to eat out .. head to ur nearest pub, u might be able to find fish&chips + beer for only 2/3gbp ... thats in nottingham though, not sure about other places ...

so u mean u r a scholarship student , and applied to the normal general student form? ... most probably, yes u r doomed according to the conditions .. do u know wats the difference in both forms? if not much, u might have a chance ... u said u applied today? as in submitted online application or went to VFS to submit ur documents?
