Which Mas site, pls. Not able to locate it.
*
Malaysian airlines website. I just checked last nite to compare prices. If you pay more, you will fly the A380.

Alternatively Silkair has promos for KL, Penang and Langkawi till 30 September.

Due to connecting times etc and Silkair not considering East Malaysia as worthy of its "tactical promotion", we will be using neither. sad.gif

Added on May 23, 2012, 8:54 pmNoted that Bellerbys college A levels students are given Medicine Preparation Programme and Oxbridge Preparation Programme which give them invaluable advice. Potential med applicants are also given hospital and clinic experience.
And I believe other top A level colleges there does the same.

And foreign students based there definite has a big advantage.

I Was told Concord does the same.

I noticed from Sun newspaper today UCSI advert on successful placement of students in recent times in Uk universities. Noted that quite a fair number got into dentistry n pharmacy in Cardiff, Kings, Lsp, Queen Mary, Bath, Nottingham, Glasgow, Dundee, Bath and of course Ireland. But only 1 got into medic in Liverpool. Is it easier for dentistry n pharmacy? Just curious!
*
Not sure about dentistry, but pharmacy is easier than medicine. Pharmacy applicants need not sit for the UKCAT for a start.

the safest amount is RM100,000. show FD statement with RM100,000. definitely approve.

RM100k = GBP20k (thereabouts).

If the fees and living costs for the year is GBP20k, then this would be right.
Please check UKBA for conditions pertaining to finances.

Has anyone who's UK bound in September been issued with CAS? We're coming to the last week of June.

Have you booked the flight? Is it better to book one way as the one year open return ticket is very expensive.
*
Flights booked. Decided to get the 6 months ticket since he can't stay in the halls over Christmas. Expenses over Christmas break will work out to be similar or more. What about you?

I have not booked yet, being looking at MAS as dad wants to try the A380.  My accommodation is inclusive of Christmas and Easter breaks, I probably won't be coming home until summer break, unless I miss my family so much!  cry.gif
*
Yea, since accom inclusive of Christmas and Easter holidays, it makes sense to just stay on. If you want to be flexible, check out the one way and return tickets from LHR. Yay about the A380! Was tempted but just too costly for all of us this time.

"The Daily Telegraph will expose further issues with the system later this week. The disclosures are expected to lead to demands for a review of entry requirements." - the daily telegraph.

Wonder which other unis will be "highlighted" later this week. It seems the mainlanders (PRCs) go for business related courses, not unlike the scenario in Australia.

It's sure to tarnish the image of Cardiff, which is also popular destination for Malaysians with its twinning programs.
Funny that 4As students from bolehland did not make it to their medic program. Maybe, those applicants should have consulted the Chinese agent.
*
Gosh! I hope the critical courses are spared from this, that admissions will continue to be strictly adhered. Fingers crossed! I guess Cardiff med faculty was looking beyond the 4As.

(I've heard of a case in Melbourne where a dux, but an upstart, was rejected by Uni of Melbourne after the interview)

Are you serious ? Students from China are achieving top grades in many elite schools and colleges in USA,Singapore, etc.

Those Mainland Chinese in Singapore under ASEAN scholarship are simply brilliant.

Many researchers and lecturers in top universities in USA,UK ,Australia and Singapore are Mainland Chinese and Indians. Just go and read their faculty websites.

The issue on lowering grades to recruit international students is global not restricting to UK and Mainland Chinese students.
*
Am quite sure NOT all 1.3 billion PRC mainlanders are brilliant academically. The mediocre newly cash-rich ones are the targets of education agents like the one mentioned in the article. The geniuses and proteges do not need such agents, and this applies to other nationalities as well.
I am just wary of anything to do with mainlanders...eek. *touch wood*

anyone realised that UEL (University of East London) is at the btm of the uni ranking 2012 but their research assessment is higher than most normal unis?
*
It's an ex-poly, so it may require time, amongst other things, to climb the ranking tables. Most folks who studied in the UK in the 70s and 80s will be able to tell right off which "new" unis were originally, colleges of further education/technical colleges/polytechnics.

There are many who argued that rankings are not important etc, its YOU yourself that will make the difference.

When it comes to the crunch and its YOUR own monies that you are spending, then you want the best and nothing but the best.

For others, it doesn't matter lah, all same same.

How ironical or shall we term it hypocrisy!
*
LOL! double, triple standards! I was in a specialist hospital yesterday, and while waiting to pay, I spent a few minutes reading the various qualifications of the specialists. All rather reputable (to me), save for one unfamiliar one from US.

It boils down to the individual's background. I mean a child will be influenced by passing comments like "oh that uni? it was a blinking college of further education, best not got there"...etc. Then there are those who are completely indifferent, as long as "going to study in UK". Different strokes for different folks!

You can probably afford it. If you have a wealthy family that doesn't need the money for something else, don't have to sacrifice their lifestyles, food, investment opportunities etc, then it's good enough for me.

Who knows, maybe it will be the best thing to go to Imperial? It is quite famous and at the top of a number of rankings. In terms of targets it is up there with Oxbridge and LSE, plus you're doing Engineering or Maths I'm guessing.

For a lot of Malaysians, it is a lot to study overseas. Financially. The currencies (GBP, AUD, USD, NZD, CAD). Even with a tuition scholarship, when you look at cost of living in MYR prices, it's a lot. A Malaysian living paying for a Western student's lifestyle. Developing country salary for developed country expenses. So you need to do well, learn, grow, and make sure you can justify it all by the end. This is what many struggle with...

One thing's for sure, you'll get some exposure (at such a big, famous school) that you'll not get in Malaysia.[cool.gif They also attract more qualified academic staff. But it is also normal for their assessments to be tough. And you'll have very competent competition.
*
Will there be no such "some exposure" (relative to Malaysia) if not in Imperial, but in some other RG unis? I would have thought the exposure (academically and holistically) will be different from what one will get in Malaysia. This is not a blanket positive thing, of course. wink.gif

Have a swell time in Imperial, strategist!

I think otherwise.

those who already have their cas no, it is best to get your visa done now.....before the crowds descend......

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...6307&sec=nation

KUALA LUMPUR: The British High Commission is bracing for the approaching peak student visa period, with applications to be processed and decided for the first time in Manila.

The handling of the students’ visas at the UK Border Agency (UKBA) visa centre in the Philippines will be put to the test, but British officials here are confident of an improved visa service.

Timely reporting, CAS just received. A bit paranoid about Philippines though.
