it you look up the ukba website they are completely silent about this, just the general guide for tier4 visa.....

having a hts means however, some requirements will be vetted by the respective unis, and you need not show proof during the visa application process....eg english requirement....

however a news report did indicate that since last sept, the ukba have waived the need for funds and education qualification proofs for malaysia....

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=...1485&sec=nation

i therefore stand corrected, but since i am unable to find actual official reference to this, confirmation with the British high commission may be advisable.....

Certain university's might accept it, but it is NOT acceptable for visa application purposes. However, if you're going to a HTS sponsor for a degree level course, english is no longer a requirement Malaysian students need to fulfill during visa application.
*
the hts will still need to comply with the language requirement and ensure you have the minimum before they can issue the cas.....gce-o /spm 1119 is not in the list of approved english qualifications.....

don't confuse between the uni's requirement, and the ukba's requirement for the issuance of a cas.....

the english requirement is new, only introduced in 2011....before that, only the respective unis have their own individual language requirement....the tier4 visa does not demand any english certification for people embarking on a degree course.....(there is requirement for lower level courses)

after april 2011, english requirement was added as a requirement by ukba for all courses.....and the hts unis tasked to ensure students' compliance before they issue the cas.....

in any case, just sit for ielts lah....

the gce-0 grading for the 1119 (spm english paper code) is just the essay paper re-marked to gce level.....

So I am applying to the UK for entry in 2015 with my 4A* predicted grades. Is there any better suggestions other than Cambridge, Imperial, Manchester, UCL and Durham for chemical engineering? Assume no financial constraints whatsoever.
*
you are starting you a levels now.....how do you get 'predicted grades' now?.....

I started a levels in January this year. Sat for my semester exam this June and my AS trials are coming soon. Kinda early but I do have predicted grades which are based on my performance in the semester exam.
*
if you are on the usual 1 1/2 yr programme, you should be sitting for the a2 in may/june, and thus should be enrolling in the 14/15 academic year...ie entry in 2014...not 2015....

however, if you are doing a full 2 years programme, you will only sit for a2 end of 2014, and thus will indeed be enrolling in 2015....

and i didn't know they can give forecast results even before you sit for your as......

i should add that the a level results is NOT what will get you into oxbridge (and some other top unis as well).....

offers are made well before the finals are sat for....

offers are often made based on the personal statement, interviews, and sometimes, a test....

if you do not get an offer, finally getting 4a* will NOT get you a place....

Yes. I am applying for deferred entry because I have plans for my gap year.
For Taylor's, they give prediction on 4 instances to jan intake students. Once just after sem 1 exam, once after AS trials, once after real AS and once after......I am not sure. And I am afraid this is standard practice in most private colleges.
Yes, yes yes. Now please don't stray away from my original question. I am well aware about the challenges, but that is not the point of my question.
People, stop directing your cynicism towards me!! I am just doing what I was told by my college, WHICH IS TO COMPLETE THE UCAS AND COPA IF TOU ARE INTERESTED TO APPLY TO CAMBRIDGE BEFORE AS TRIALS. I am not sure what tricks they have under their sleeve, but that's exactly what they told me to do. Complete the form and they will handle the rest. This is only for applicants interested in Cambridge though. The rest apply slightly later......like next month.

Honestly, I suspect they are not really submitting my UCAS this month, they just want us to submit earlier so that they have more time to work on our mentor references and other stuff.
*
based on the original post, the implication is that the predicted 4a* is going to be important in getting into oxbridge and top uk unis.....

hence the many responses to explain that the final result has no bearing, although forecast results may have some use in attracting their attention.....

afaik, international students are NOT allowed to have deferred entry.....therefore you cannot apply now for 2015 entry....if you definitely want to take a gap year, then you start applying before october 2014.....NOT now.....

Very good result....a lot of people are saying for students intending to do critical courses or trying Oxbridge ,they have an advantage doing their preu in UK....because good supports are given.

Is this really true?
*
the cardiff sixth form college, as with most other private prep schools catering to foreigners, select their student carefully, to ensure good results....they will reject those who are not good enough....and have been known to expel or prohibit from sitting the exam, those they think are going to perform poorly and drag down their records....

it is not accident, why such prep schools do well.....any school which selects their students in such a manner is going to have better results....compared to say, grammar schools in uk.....

it is an ongoing debate amongst educators, over which way is the better way....and such concerns is also the reason why uk unis have affirmative action policy in their selection of students, to give leeway in selecting students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and from all-comers grammar schools.....

Are you sure about that? I consulted my placement centre and I was told it is allowed. I couldn't find anything that suggests international students are not allowed to defer entry.
*
i believe i have read it somewhere....it's not allowed for imperial medicine...

http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/ugprospectus/fa...tryrequirements

there is a process problem for deferring international students....while local students just need a deferment letter from the uni....offer of a place for international students means issuance of a cas number.....with which you need to get your tier4 visa within 6 months....

it would certainly be an unusual request for international students....

I see. But doesn't that mean all I need to do is just ask them to issue CAS at a later date? Your link says gap years are ok for medicine. No mention of international students.
It is clearly stated under deferred entry....

The rain in uk is lighter, but more persistent.....i don't think thunderstorms are any more frequent or worse.....

There will be a lot more grey days with persistent intermittent drizzles.....

at least in msia, rain is somewhat welcome, as it cools the place down....
