QUOTE(Intermission @ Aug 17 2013, 08:59 PM) I started a levels in January this year. Sat for my semester exam this June and my AS trials are coming soon. Kinda early but I do have predicted grades which are based on my performance in the semester exam. Wouldn't this be for 2014/15 cycle?

QUOTE(Intermission @ Aug 18 2013, 12:10 PM) You got to be kidding me. Sunway oxbridge applicants had their personal statements checked by a LSE lawyer. The real places at requires more individual effort would be places like TARC. And hey, we do write our own personal statements. If the teacher references aren't the responsibility of the college then who should be responsible? The only real help I can see are the mock interviews, which is standard practice even in the UK. The only colleges that are that "dedicated" are KYUEM or Eton, with even prep classes for admission tests. yes KYUEM is well known, as some tend to be "wooden" and socially awkward, without the practice runs. So the successful applicant who gets in on individual effort should be applauded then.

QUOTE(confirm @ Aug 18 2013, 12:49 PM) http://www.ccoex.com/results.phpVery good result....a lot of people are saying for students intending to do critical courses or trying Oxbridge ,they have an advantage doing their preu in UK....because good supports are given. Is this really true? This is one of the better sixth form colleges, and I think one of the school's science teacher was from Sarawak. I am leaning towards agreeing that there is an advantage in doing pre u in the UK.

QUOTE(confirm @ Aug 31 2013, 09:43 AM) http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/world...i-1226708035513A reflection of current O and A level standard ..UK is changing to catch up. Reports of plans to revamp the A levels have surfaced since the beginning of this year, and Michael Gove who has been instrumental and passionate about the revamp, claimed the Brits have been academically falling behind East Asian students. Unsurprisingly these plans were met with objections, but plans are underway, if I am not mistaken, including a ranking of students, not unlike the ATAR system in Oz.

QUOTE(Jckc @ Sep 5 2013, 08:40 PM) Hi people. I would like to clarify about bringing electronic items to the UK. I've heard from a friend that rice cookers can't be brought in due to the recent Boston bombing. Is it true? Not true. Someone I know just brought a rice cooker in two weeks ago.

QUOTE(Shyuejer @ Oct 13 2013, 11:00 PM) cckkpr, That's quite low compared to what I perceive from various uni website which state that generally 6500~9000 pound should be the 39-week living cost. Abt the 9 months period you stated, what happens to all your belonging during the 3-month gap ( which I assume to be summer break ), do you need to find extra storage for it outside the contract period? I know this ques sounds dumb but just wondering.
Two unis I'm looking at are LSE n UCL which happen to not just be in london but central london I guess they would be out of my budget then. limeuu, That amounts to 5400-6300 quid for 9 months which is even lower than cckkpr's Do many students stay thrifty and really spent that little during their studies in UK ? Cuz I don't see myself working part time there/ trying to cut corners at entertainment etc. but rather to enjoy the time studying there. There are LOTS of storage companies, and if you share with friends, it is quite cheap.

QUOTE(Geminist @ Oct 20 2013, 02:01 AM) I'm genuinely curious as to where people shop such that you end up with a weekly £70 food bill. Is this from supermarkets like Tesco / ASDA / Sainsbury, or do people shop from M&S, Waitrose, Whole Foods etc? Are you buying the shop's self label product, or the branded items? £70 is max, and includes 3-4 lunches outside. Essentials from Tesco, and "special" items from M&S. QUOTE(cckkpr @ Oct 21 2013, 11:14 AM) 6 or 7 pounds for a Chinese takeaway lunch with additional rice for dinner. If you can take milk for breakfast, its also easier. 2 lunches in hospital canteen, which is subsidised, I think.

QUOTE(cckkpr @ Feb 27 2014, 05:22 PM) I doubt you can get into a Big4 unless you are signing up for ACA and even then you need a first class or at least a second upper to be considered. What do you plan to do in the longer term? Public practice, commercial or investment banking? If you plan to work over there for a few years, then you need to be in the respective top few with cross border knowledge and experience. Thereafter, your better bet will be Hongkong or Sg before settling in bolehland. Is working experience required? I believe ICAEW requires working experience, unless requirements have changed.
