Hi all,

I need help from other A42JV owners. Please check for me in the windows Device Manager. Look under "System devices" tree. Please let me know whether you can see SMBUS controller or not. Thanks. smile.gif

@gogo2, (for SetFSB) is that Clock Generator (ICS9LPRS365BGLF) for A42JV?

that PLL is for A42Jv, at least for the one I tested....
*
Thanks. Very quick reply. smile.gif I did trial & error (test random PLL) with SetFSB on A42JV before but on my first attempt, windows crashed with a lot of colors on the screen. That is why I ask first. I just found this thread. I have A42JV/K42JV thread at notebookreview forum. I have posted benchmark results there.

was playing SC2 4v4, kinda laggy.. lol

It should be ok if change the HDD to faster one. For example 7200RPM or SSD. RAM should be 4GB at least. SC2 read/write to HDD very often during mission load.

i'm using 4GB RAM. and I was using high quality settings. do you guys think it is normal?
*
I have 2GB RAM. A bit lag during mission load. No lag (or little) during game. Medium settings & 1920x1080 resolution (using external LCD).

how do i enable higher resolution? because sometimes i plug my laptop to my 40 inch tv at home via HDMI cable, but there is no options for me to select higher res than the laptop.

during big battle i suppose, about 8 colosus, plenty of stalkers and zealots (more than 50 i guess) in a 4v4 game.
*
Maybe compatibility issue. I connected to 23" Samsung Full HD LCD via HDMI. What is the maximum resolution (in windows, not game) you can get with your 40" TV?

I haven't tried 4v4 yet but I have played medium size battle. No lag.

i have the same model as you with 335m GC. i dont have that SMBUS controller. what is it for?
*
Thank you for checking it for me. SMBUS controller is part of the Intel chipset. It monitors your system board's temperature and voltage. Programs that read your hardware sensors need the controller. On my notebook several day ago, SMBUS controller suddenly detected in Everest software. But now it disappear again. This behavior is kinda odd. Usually on modern computer, SMBUS controller should exist. I already sent an email to Asus support about this. Still no reply from them yet. It already pass 48 hours since I log that report. Very poor support. Not like Dell.

Added on October 6, 2010, 7:45 pmis fanspeed a good software? it doesn't show the same reading as my core temp. this is the software that my friend is using that reads 15 degrees during idle
*
Look like SpeedFan is not reading the temperature right. This is the screenshot of three different software. From left are Everest, HWMonitor & SpeedFan.

Everest & HWMonitor look more accurate.

Almost similar specification with my Dell Studio 1557. It have ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 with GDDR3 which is much better in performance than DDR3. For i7 notebook, I wouldn't recommend X42Jr. Better get other model which come with more interfaces. X42Jr only have 1 x Headphone-out jack, 1 x VGA port/Mini D-sub 15-pin for external monitor, 3 x USB 2.0 ports, 1 x RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert & 1 x HDMI. No eSATA, express card slot & firewire port. Dell Studio 1557 have all the interfaces except DisplayPort. The graphic card in X42Jr also not good. ATI 5470 is an entry-level / lower middle class DirectX 11 graphics card. So, not suitable for gamers & also too powerful for powerpoint presentation. I bet A42JV can outrun this notebook in term of overall performance. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyone know how much is the G series? The cheapest one? I'm planning to get 3rd notebook for this year. LOL. thumbup.gif

i just checked notebookcheck.com it says 5470 is almost the same as 4570 and might be better in certain games. and is the DELL only have 320gb of HDD size? how much is it now?

Yeah but better get notebook with middle-stream graphic card. No, you can customize it online. You can customize it with FullHD LCD, 500GB, Blu-Ray, etc. 1557 model already replaced with 1558. 1557 model come with i7-720QM & i7-820QM, so it is a bit expensive back then. I bought it early this year & can't remember exactly. Around RM3700 - RM3800 if I'm not mistaken. Dell Studio 1558 can be customized from i5-460M to i5-540M. Price for standard config is RM2899.

lol. so which one do u prefer? alienware or G series?
*
That is the problem. LOL. Alienware M15x have slightly better spec but design is hideous. Asus G60Jx, for an example, design is nice & good spec too. I think I choose M15x since Dell have good support & warranty. Dell technician will come to your house & fix it (replace the faulty parts). icon_idea.gif

The PLL isn't supported fully by SetFSB for the A42Jv I tested, you need to edit the registry
You need to change yours in these 3 circles into that number...
user posted image
and if want to change the BCLK,
to increase ~7MHz, decrease the 97 to 96
to increase ~3MHz, decrease the 39 to 38...
*
Thank you for sharing this. I will try this later. icon_rolleyes.gif

Mine boot in 10 seconds...from hibernate. rclxms.gif icon_rolleyes.gif My laptop usually running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If I want to turn it off, I just put it in hibernate. I use Dell if I have meeting/work @ client site.
