QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Aug 26 2010, 04:01 PM) Hi all camera pros, this is the first time I started to learn to take photo using DSLR. And now I'm still thinking which DSLR camera I should get.... Firstly, Canon is out... straightly. Cause I don't like the quality of photo. So now left Nikon and Sony. At first I was thinking of D90, then I read the details of this DSLR and found out this camera has been produced since 2008 . I worry that the D90 will be kicked out in few months time. And recently Nikon release new DSLR which is D3100, and Sony produced quite a number of DSLR, A55, A33, A560 and A580. My budget is between 2k to 3.5k. I am hoping for the intermediate level DSLR cause I worry beginner camera will not last long ( less functions to play with ). And those Sony new DSLRs' price are not yet revealed. ( I'm sure some of you guys roughly know the price ). So anyone can recommend? Should I go for Intermediate DSLR now or wait for the new DSLR release around Oct or Nov? I really hope u Sony fans will help me so I might become a Sony fans I am just curious why do you think the Canon's photo quality is not to your liking....? The A55 / A580 should be the intermediate Sony cameras which you should be looking for. The Nikon D90, no doubt is rather old, but is still among the best specified and best performance intermediate Nikon camera there is. The ergonomics of this camera is really good. The only other cameras which I had held before with better ergonomics are the Sony A700 & the A850 / A900 bodies. The Canon bodies are not as nice to hold. The Sony A230 / A330 cameras are downright horrible to hold. Hahaha.... hope the A230 / A330 users are not seeing this....

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Aug 26 2010, 04:49 PM) Even though a lot of people are telling me there are lots of lenses around for Canon compare to other brand. But for me perception, the most important is the natural quality of photo taken, not how many types of lenses can be put in or keep comparing which megapixel is higher LOL. I am just a starter, and I'm not so eager to become professional cameraman. Taking photo is purely my hobby, as long photo is pretty and natural, I'm happy. I love your explanation. We can be good buddies..... FEEL photography.....

QUOTE(yuhi @ Aug 29 2010, 11:02 PM) Most of the diffusers in the market are doing their job rather well. the major differences are mainly in the operational aspect of the diffusers. i.e. the Sto-fen type are usually the most robust and most compact to haul around, since there are not moving parts. but you get less bouncing surfaces (limited by the size of the diffuser). they are usually easy to install / remove at a moment's notice. the demb diffuser type offers a bigger bounce surface area, is relatively easy to carry around (since if folds flat) but it does have flexing joints, so could be rather more fragile compared to others. they also tend to be a bit more tedious to install / remove. the whale-tail / Garry Fong (or more affectionately known as the Maggi Cup) type diffusers are bigger and offers big diffused areas, but they are bulky to carry around. and they look weird on the flash.... hahaha.....

eddy, great shots. I love the first photo. i think the 2nd photo looks a bit underexposed and a bit too warm. skin tone too yellowish. dry brightening it up a bit and make the skin a bit more pale. my opinion lah.... can be right, can be wrong, especially given the fact that i am not using a calibrated monitor to view the website at the moment....

Don't read too much into the shots per battery charge figures. they are VERY subjective..... just buy an extra battery for spare lah. p/s: i keep 3 batteries for my camera....

QUOTE(signither @ Sep 1 2010, 06:15 AM) is Marumi filter any good? tried Googling around and some say that it is quite good. anybody have experience with this brand? I had seen marumi filters. pretty good. get the higher grade ones. You can look for shunfa. Company that he is working for is the agent for marumi filters. the high grade ones is actually more resistant to grease & smudge than the Hoya HD. i had seen him draw on the filter glass of the marumi filter with a marker pen. after that, simply just wipe it off. very good stuff.

QUOTE(nuarz79 @ Sep 1 2010, 04:09 PM) thanks to u all..i will be to learn about this a500 coz i a new to learn about dslr...so the shop recommend me this camera coz i a beginner used...hope u guy can teach me some trick n setting about this camera...tq Lesson 101: RTFM! Just kidding. Anyway, you must grasp the fundamentals of photography and how it works first before anything else. First of all, photography is all about lighting. It is about how you control the light going into the camera to create the image which will be recorded by the sensor as a photo. Three factors governs the control of light going into the camera: Shutter Speed, Aperture & ISO (sensor's sensitivity). Read about this trinity of values and they interact with each other to create a photo. Google is your best friend in this matter. It is quite tiring to write a lot about these 3 basic fundamentals in photography. Grasp these 3 basics and you will find it easier to develop further in your photography journey.

Well lit and well composed. A bit noisier than I like, but I think it is great. Tips: If you are having problems trying to focus in low light conditions during the night, a torch light may come in handy....

QUOTE(d4rkholeang3l @ Sep 2 2010, 06:14 PM) Oh ya, I wanna ask, can the red focus lamp on f42 be used when I off the flash ( just for focusing, without flash fired ) ? Why don't you try it out and tell us the answer? P/s: I know the answer, but I think you should find it out yourself.

QUOTE(8tvt @ Sep 3 2010, 02:54 PM) i thought A33 using the same sensor as NEX.. why not same IQ? only A55 using a new one.. Same sensor but maybe different processing engine & also the fact that the sensor in A33 is receiving 1/3 less light than the NEX-3, so it will have to boost the signal to achieve similar gain as the NEX-3.

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Sep 6 2010, 10:36 AM) Wow.... A55 is only cost RM2799 with kit lens....... With this kind of new technology, I'm so gonna get this DSLR for good.. Forget about A580.... Time to get this in my cart. But with this kind of price made me wonder..... is this DSLR a beginner or Intermediate DSLR? The price does look like beginner DSLR price... Interesting thought. Would you had bought the A55 if it was priced at RM4999.00 and consider it as a mid-level / pro-level camera? Read into Sony's marketing strategy and you may find some answers to your questions. I myself is still thinking about this same question and had not found an acceptable answer yet....

Did a photoshoot yesterday. Had a great time laughing and enjoying photography (like it is supposed to be). One end result shot to share: A850 & SAL85F14Z. 1/40s, f1.4, ISO800, AWB. Available light shot. Photo involved a fair amount of post-processing. Added on September 6, 2010, 11:06 amQUOTE(8tvt @ Sep 6 2010, 11:04 AM) panning need to use small aperture? Panning needs to use slower shutter speed. One of the trick is to use a smaller aperture to lower down the shutter speed. This post has been edited by kysham: Sep 6 2010, 11:06 AM
