QUOTE(gooni3 @ Aug 20 2010, 04:43 PM) well u can do anything in this world as long as it does not cause inconvenience to others and also does not restrict other ppl's freedom hehe.. that's impossible, everything is linked ! it's our limitation that we thought we do good enough but it isn't

it is possible that one would never come across anything to do with Buddhism.. and still attain enlightenment..
Buddhism is just a name.. but if you do everything correctly.. u will know what do do and continue on.. stage by stage.. step by step..
until certain stage u can look past ur future and ur past lives.. the Buddha knows, sees and hears everything he's omniscient..
there are ppl before the Buddha's time who achieve enlightenment..

Buddha just found the middle way and lay it out to all so that we can in turn or in time achieve Buddhahood.
That's all.

yeapp betul.. the main idea is to cease samsara.. the cycle of life and death, which is also the cause of suffering..
we need to clear our mind of everything.. of every attachment.. when there's an attachment.. there will be a seed.. and then grow.. then everything start and become a cycle..
so hence the ultimate goal is to attain nirvana.. ultimate peace where u will never have to be reborned again

Damn, not even boddhisvattas count as achieving nirvana. Long path ahead. ya experience i think everyone will eventually attain nirvana.. takes time..
that part is crucial the middle path.. i din mention earlier cuz too long.. haha.. in his life.. he practice eccentric means too much till he faint by the river when bathing.. then a boy saved him and gave him food.. then he saw the harp or something.. pull the strings too tight it will not make a good sound.. and too loose it doesn't make sound.. when just nice.. it makes perfect harmony sound of every elements.. i don recall the exact words but something like that.. hence the middle path was born..

My dua sen, Buddha is formless. I don't know how to explain it but all its teaching is like a recurring theme for many ages. What used to happen in the past, is the same today, and maybe in the future. Like a cycle. Only different way of how it happens. The idea of time is just something relative, like an illusion or dream that we will wake up from once we achieved enlightenment. It happens all the time. Like what goonie says, it doesn't happen suddenly, and there is no concept of timeline in Buddhism. Sometimes, I try to seek peace through Buddhist teachings. It's very deep, which always intrigue me to seek deeper understanding...I only get what it means when something in my life happened, and it just hit right on my head... Maybe I don't even know what I'm talking about... This post has been edited by geekster129: Aug 20 2010, 05:06 PM

Probably a few billion Kalpa times perhaps?
Cool I never knew about the harp.
I only know of the girl giving him milk and one kind of food.
That also he is willing to take it after he realised that not having anything to the extreme does not work.
Interesting part is when he starts to meditate and he is surrounded by gods, bodhisvattas, and the others.
