Atlus Japan announced a new project from the Persona team in this week’s issue of Famitsu. Catherine is an action/adventure game with a horror taste intended for adults.
The game’s premise appears to be about a man who wakes up every night from his dreams. That’s what the text in pink tells us. An info box says Catherine is in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Katsura Hashino, the director of Persona 4, is the producer/director of Catherine. Shigenori Soejima is the character designer and Shoji Meguro is the game’s composer.
The Persona role-playing-game franchise is getting a hi-def entry called "Catherine". It's an action-adventure type game that is aimed at adults.
The game follows Vincent as he wakes up every night from his dreams. Vincent, website Siliconera points out, appeared in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable!.

Well I wouldn't mind english voice acting, if they use the same cast from Persoan 3 and Persona 4 that is. Those bunch of VAs are high quality stuff.
Infact, I think in Persona 3... the english VAs were better than the jap version.
yes i agree ssjben p3 and p4 had wonderfully good english voices, and the music was also very catchy...one of the best rpgs on ps2 actually for me, especially p4. really really enjoyed that one.
however, ps3 is in blu ray, an option to switch voices would be nice but we are getting way ahead of ourselves, lets all eagerly wait for this

Since Catherine is published by Atlus, there is a chance this game will be ported to English with dual VA like P3 & P4.
i don't remember p3, fes, or p4 having option to change to japanese track, dood. but it was still good va. now, horrible english va examples are the shining force diablo style game, i forgot the name, or star ocean english voices lol(all of em). to an extent all smt series english va have been decently good to very good.

The translation of the first Persona was hilarious

you are right, the persona series on PS2 only had english tracks.
Catherine (キャサリン, Kyasarin?) is an upcoming action-adventure game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will be Atlus' first game for seventh-generation consoles in high definition. It has been said that the game will have some "shockingly adult scenes" by Shigenori Soejima—the game's character designer—during an interview. Shoji Meguro—the game's sound composer—stated that the title is indeed adult-oriented and described the music as being "classic", "adult oriented" and "erotic.
I don't know about you guys but Vincent reminds me of spike from cowboy bebop:

The sex won't be the same sort of american style you see on GOW or Heavy Rain. The art style indicates that the sex in this game is akin to that of Gantz or if you want to be nostalgic, some where between the lines of Akira.

oooohh Akira type of sex...nice. Now, I want this game even more. If there is no english version, this will be the first japanese game I will buy because I like sex...

as a fan of persona series,i know i'm gonna like this.
because of the "shockingly adult" nature of this game i had to put the 18SX rating on the title. we don't want to corrupt innocent minds now, would we? hahahaha

from an anime point of view, i would hope to classify catherine as ecchi, and hopefully not hentai.
i mean, i love boobies but still, we wouldn't want it to go so low till a full blown sex scene. its need to be tasteful, and tease. those are much better than see 'everything' imho.
this is ATLUS we are talking about and so far they have not published any hentai games. so Catherine would be ecchi but not the comedy type of echhi. Catherine is "horror" ecchi like this show:
this is my favourite anime atm. highly recommended for anyone who likes horror with ecchi..

I'm following the Manga, but unfortunately OneManga stupidly decided to shutdown and now I don't have updates.

well cant be helped since manga authors are making a stand against scanslation i believe. Anyways, the game really does give me a vibe of Baroque...must be the lambs....
Catherine is the upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 game from Japanese developer Atlus. It is a spin-off of the Persona series of role-playing games. An adult one.
As evident by the game's launch trailer and now the promotional poster, Atlus wasn't kidding when it said it was making a game for adult players.
It is rated CERO C in Japan, which is ages 15-years-old-and-up. So expect more "suggestive" than, say, "explicit".
I hope this game have a a nice and memorable music since p4 had such an awesome track. But well.... 2011.. have to wait for quite a while. I believe this one can be classified as JRPG?

This game is not JRPG but action/adventure and the japanese version is coming out in winter 2010.
There is no news yet about english version.

To the guy who said Vincent looks like Spike, it is voiced by the guy who voiced Spike in the J.P. version. Here's hoping Steve Blum voices Vincent in the English dub(if it is ever done).
With Index swallowing Atlus, I hope that they'll have a joint venture in the animation department more often with Madhouse(not that I'm complaining about what's going on in Catherine, with the sexy, sexy Studio 4°C animation in that trailer).
What I am interested, is that how is this going to affect the entire S.M.T. timeline. Is it going to affect anything, or will it just be left to it's own purpose?

"Atlus" as a brand can continue; however, Atlus will no longer be registered on the Japanese stock exchange. According to a spokesperson, the Atlus name will continue for both game development and retail sales.
Remember that girl from the first Catherine promotional video who seemed to be shouting at main character Vincent?
It turns out that her name is... Katherine. That's just like Catherine, but with a K.
Katherine (with a K) is a 32-year old mid management level employee at an apparel maker. She and Vincent are from the same town and are old childhood friends. She's voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi.
If you suspected that Katherine (with a K -- yes, I'm going to keep writing it like this out of concern for people using reading software) was Vincent's girlfriend given how she seemed to be nagging him just like a girlfriend will often do, you were right. The two had a reencounter five years back during a school reunion, and began seeing one another.
Katherine and Vincent are quite close. So close, in fact, that Katherine knows how many sugar cubes to put into Vincent's coffee (do people still use sugar cubes?).
Screenshots show Katherine and Vincent having a serious conversation at the coffee shop. Katherine indicates that she might be... pregnant!
Here's a screenshot showing how it might have happened:
Even though Vincent has a girlfriend named Katherine, he ends up having a one-night stand with Catherine (with a C), whom he meets out of nowhere one day. Based off the screenshot subtitles, it looks like Catherine (with a C) doesn't know that Vincent has a girlfriend, as she seems to say that she won't allow him to cheat on her.
At some point in his dream escapades, Vincent will encounter a mysterious character -- a humanish monster of some form who wears a wedding dress and carries a knife. This creature, who looks somewhat familiar to Vincent, will attack Vincent.
So what will happen between Vincent, Catherine (with a C) and Katherine (with a K)? It actually depends on your actions. Catherine (that's the name of the game -- with a C) will have multiple endings.
Here's a big surprise from the Catherine development blog. Character designer Shigenori Soejima revealed today that the game is currently in its final tuning phases!
This little revelation about the game's development progress was just one of a number of interesting points Soejima made in his first post at the game's blog.
You might recall that initial Famitsu advertisement which showed Catherine eating a slice of pizza. Soejima admitted that as he made that illustration, he was worried that it might be too much for an advertisement.
Soejima considers Catherine a challenge for him in many respects. It's his and his team's first HD development effort. It's in a new game genre that's not an RPG. It's also aimed towards adults, although he noted here that this is just in terms of story and it's not the case that young players won't be able to play the game.
Wrote Soejima, "As I play again the resulting work (it's presently undergoing final tuning!), I feel that it's not just a challenging title for us, but that it's quite the ambitious work."
He also discussed a bit about his work on the art side of the game. "You can probably tell this just by looking at it, but it's a bit... actually, it's quite erotic. It's very much different from the pure (?) Persona. But this is a necessity. It's an element that cannot be done away with if you want to realistically portray adult love. If you omit it because it's a consumer game, it's unnatural. So, we are challenging the limits. ... There, my excuse has come to an end. (laughs.)"
During the character creation process for Catherine, Soejima has been placing his attention on "reality." He says that all the characters, even those outside of Catherine and Vincent, have personal qualities, and there will be some characters who will make you think that there are similar types of people in the real world.
"Rather than the 'it would be nice if you could have this' type of ideal that you see in love games, this game will let you sample the sweet and rough areas of male and female relationships through a horror taste."
I dun think got so slow la... Next year end is too long liao... Since almost every studios in japan wana have some foreign sale figure... Assuming that they are really in the end phase and just tuning things... Then may come out by this year end in japan... I think next year May or earlier we may get it..

Depending on US, they may or may not port it over to English version. The previous interactive novel from Japan which had "adult" scenes/theme was not turned into an English version despite the high demands for it, cause US wanted to avoid this genre for psp, as a lot of young kids do own a psp.
Tho all just speculations now.. hope they give out more info in upcoming TGS.
The clip shows many of the areas that were shared in last week's preview at the site, including Vincent's girlfriend Katherine (with a K!) and the mysterious humanoid monster Vincent encounters in his dream world.
During the trailer, such phrases as "True love!?" and "Life's Choices" flash across the screen. At the end, Vincent gets an e-mail on his cell phone that shocks him, but the trailer cuts off before we can find out what was in the mail.
Lol.. its more like if you dare to cheat i will potong you kinda lesson....and when things are too good to be true... lari, jangan tak lari... XD

This week's Dengeki PlayStation has a look back at the Tokyo Game Show Catherine trailer, with commentary from producer and director Katsura Hashino and character designer Shigenori Soejima.
Interest in Catherine appears to be high. Hashino said that access to the Catherine official site is at the same levels as when they announce a new Persona game. The game places highly in weekly most wanted rankings, he noted.
Hashino was also surprised to see the large number comments from foreigners in the YouTube versions of the videos.
Regardless of the initial popularity, and although he has confidence in the product itself, Hashino is a bit worried about the game being accepted by players.
Hashino feels that Catherine is an ambitious game, and he believes that no one but Atlus would have given him the go sign for it. To help show the appeal of the game initially, the designers packed the design documents with "intense" visuals.
Included among those intense visuals was one showing Persona 4's Yukiko. This was just in order to show off the gameplay systems, which were determined in advance of the characters. Yukiko won't actually appear in Catherine.
Early in development, Hashino worked alone on the game's scenario. Eventually, other people were brought in and proper scenario creation began. The game's visual component underwent a similar flow.
It looks like the game underwent some major theme changes during those early development times. The decision to go with a male and female love theme came after discussions between Hashino and Soejima. Soejima originally wanted a war theme.
The tow provided some insight into their design choices for the characters. The Vincent character, Hashino revealed, is modeled after Vincent Gallo from Buffalo '66. They also decided to carry the name over.
Regarding the Catherine and Katherine characters (you'll recall the latter Katherine from this preview), I'm not sure if this is just Dengeki's paraphrasing, but the interview appears to refer to the cover girl blonde Catherine as "young Catherine" and the Katherine who was introduced later as Vincent's true girlfriend as "old Katerine."
Old Katherine is meant to show adult charms, compared to the young and healthier Catherine. Soejima said he had to redraw the old Katherine character many times before coming to the final result. However, the young Catherine proved particularly difficult herself during the conversion to 3D as he made adjustments right to the end and even upped her bust size.
The game depicts a love triangle relationship between Vincent, Catherine and Katherine. Hashino did research for this part of the game by asking for similar experiences from the Atlus staff. The staff members who cooperated may end up getting their names in the staff roll.
One episode they ended up using in the game came from a girl who said that she's only seen herself killing others in her dreams rather than being killed herself. Dialogue similar to this can be seen in the game's first trailer.
Regarding content, the two said to expect a good amount of anime. Studio 4C spent about a year working on this area of the game. There will be more than the 30 minutes or so you'd find in Persona. The game's various endings will each have animated sequences.
Closing off the interview, the two shared some hints at what we can expect from future Catherine coverage. Soejima said to expect a number of additional character announcements. Hashino said that while what we've seen thus far has been more on the erotic side, they're going to start sharing the "horror taste" visuals from here on out.
Eventually, we'll also get a look at the game's final box art. It turns out the eye catching poster that has been used to promote the game at retail and at the Tokyo Game Show isn't from the box after all. Soejima said that he's just started to think about the package art and will be drawing it from here on out. He's actually thinking of making a parody of that poster.
The magazine still lists Catherine with a Winter release time frame. Soejima recently posted at the Catherine development blog that development is in the final tuning phase.
Atlus announced today a final release date of Feb 17 for Catherine. The PS3 and Xbox 360 multiplatform title is priced ¥7,329 and has a C CERO rating.
The release date was posted at the game's official site and at the development blog.
Separate from the date announcement Atlus parent Index Holdings said during a Wednesday earnings briefing that they hope to sell 150,000 copies of the game.
Here's what's going on in between all the madness:
Early in the trailer, Katherine tells Vincent that he's been acting strangely of late, then after a few nightmare clips shouts "Are you listening!?" Vincent assures that he is listening.
Also early in the trailer, Vincent says (maybe to himself) "There are many things I don't understand myself." As he says this, red text reads "If tonight you see a dream in which you fall, you probably won't wake up."
In the bar, Vincent's friends tell him about a recent incident where a young man was discovered dead by his mom. This is one of the bizarre deaths that have been taking place around town. The waitress tells them that it seems all the men who've died are prone to cheating on their girls. Tobias says "Cheating on your girl is the lowest" (I believe he has the hots for the waitress).
"Who will die next?" reads the white text following the bar scene.
In the bed scene, we see the blonde Catherine telling Vincent seductively, "I won't allow you to cheat on me." In a later scene, I believe she says "Which do you prefer, dying or being killed?
The two old twins in the bar ask Vincent something to the effect of: "What are you trying to obtain? Will you be able to become the legendary man?"
After looking in the mirror, Vincent wonders if he's just tired.
The text at the very end of the trailer is about the game's bonus soundtrack CD. As previously detailed, the CD will include a selection of songs from Shoji Meguro, with a special booklet featuring a cover with a new illustration from Soejima.
It's a damn puzzle game? I think it did mentioned that this is an action game? People would only buy this game because of it's sex appeal.... which I like but how could I manage to play this game in front of my siblings and parents... FUUUUUUUU~~~~
i also feel the game will be kinda short after watching that PV, coz is seems the gameplay is like controling Vincent to get out from the nightmare only. @_@
This game is like one of those games " that I wouldn't want it to be on my shelve" games.
God of war 3 is already a headache as I will not play it infront of any children or adults, but after the "mini-game" it would be fine to play infront of them.
I think the sex scenes wouldn't show explicitly or genitals at all.
i also feel the game will be kinda short after watching that PV, coz is seems the gameplay is like controling Vincent to get out from the nightmare only. @_@
Plus all the PV so far seems like spoiler enough already..like can tell what is going to happen...shouldn't have watched all the pvs afterall
Catherine keeps on fighting Dragon Quest X for first place in Famitsu's most wanted list. Last week, DQX (which doesn't have an image or logo) came out on top. This week, Catherine was back in first place.
Famitsu delivered another report on the game this week. The focus this time is on Stray Sheep, a bar that Vincent frequents. The magazine passed along details on the bar's two employees, a few of its patrons, and some of the side activities you can enjoy.
The two employees are Erica and Master. Erica, voiced by Junko Minagawa, is the redhead waitress we've seen in screenshots. She's 32-years-old and is a childhood friend of Vincent. She has a bright personality and is up to date on town gossip. Master is the barkeep. You'll go through him to make friends with new customers. He's personally experienced many scenes of carnage (I have no idea what this means.)
When you're in the bar, new costumers will come in every now and then. Their facial expressions and conversation will change daily. It's possible that you could miss out on an important conversation if your timing is off, so you'll need to probably want to talk to whoever is important first.
The magazine introduces three Stray Sheep patrons you'll meet:
Todd A person who works at the same company as Vincent's girlfriend, Katherine. He often brings his subordinate Archer with him to the bar. Justin A newspaper reporter who looks good with glasses. His heart was hurt in some incident from the past. Morgan A police officer who visits the bar in his uniform. He's been pursuing the truth behind a particular crime for six years now.
Outside of speaking to customers, there are a number of things you can do in the bar. Famitsu has a look at two activities.
You'll find a jukebox in the bar. This allows you to change the bar's background music. The jukebox has songs from the game and from other sources as well.
The bar also has an arcade game called Rapunzel. This looks a bit like Vincent's nightmares, as you guide a character up a tower of blocks, moving blocks to create a stairway, all in an effort to rescue Rapunzel from the witch. The game has over 50 stages. Other customers play the game too, and if you beat their scores, you could end up with a chance for further conversation.
Famitsu.com is pretty good about getting Famitsu's print coverage online quickly, so expect a look at these areas of the game some time this week.
This week's Famitsu clears up even more mysteries on Catherine, the first HD title from the folks who brought us Persona. The magazine has details on modes of play, online support, and multiplayer features. That's right, Catherine is a two player game!
When you load up Catherine, you'll find four options at the main menu screen (which shows sexy Catherine sitting on a swing). They are: Golden Theater, Babel, Colosseum and Configuration.
Golden Theater is the game's main story mode, where you work through the story involving Vincent and Catherine C and Katherine K. Vincent's fate will change based off the player's choices, says Famitsu.
When you select Golden Theater, you can choose from Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties. These affect the difficulty of the game's action part and have no effect on the story or conclusion. Easy mode allows you to use a "Redo" feature," according to the magazine, although there's no explanation for what this is (the term does show up in some screenshots of the action part, though).
The "Golden Theater" term has been appearing as a watermark in most of the screenshots since we got our first look at Catherine months ago. Outside of the story mode's name, Golden Theater is the name of an in-game television program that's hosted by a lady named Midnight Venus. Story mode begins with MV introducing Vincent and the characters.
Famitsu doesn't say this, but based off the watermarks, I'm going to speculate that the entire game is presented as a Golden Theater episode.
When Atlus updates the game's official site with all these mode details, you will be able to spot Midnight Venus by her huge red afro. And I mean huge! You could probably fit six of her heads inside of it.
Babel Mode is focused on the game's action components. The one screen in the magazine shows Vincent climbing a tower, which appears to be so high that you can see the clouds in the distance. This mode has four stages, which you unlock based off your performance in story mode (normal mode and up, it seems). There are single player and two player multiplayer options for this mode. You'll also be able to take part in online rankings where you attempt to get the shortest clear time.
Colosseum is a competitive mode where two players challenge the game's action stages simultaneously. As you climb up a tower, you'll need to think about both speed and methods for hindering your opponent. The person to win two rounds of play first wins the match. You'll unlock this mode once you've cleared Golden Theater mode.
Famitsu also has details this week on the game's online features. Two areas are mentioned. First up, Trophies. A Trophy list leaked out earlier, so this isn't too much of a surprise.
The other area is a bit more interesting. Previously, we detailed the Confession Room, an area you encounter when you reach the top of a stage. Here, you're asked a multiple choice question, and your response determines how you advance. If you're connected online, you can see graphs showing how other players responded. Based of the screens in Famitsu, it seems that you can select to see how different genders responded.
Now less than one month ahead of release, and Catherine is back in the most wanted spot amongst Famitsu's readers. You'll get a chance to see what the fuss is all about later today as Atlus releases a demo to PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo will offer a digest version of the game's opening -- hopefully complete with a glimpse at Midnight Venus and her massive red fro.
i got 1 gold on 1 stage ,only get silver on 2nd stage T_T, i think this game will be short, after Vincent climb up to top then probably the game end, the replay value i think is replaying the stage for Gold

Same here got 1 gold 1 silver
Wondering does every stage always the same game play? Just climb up ASAP? even saw the minigame also like that....
My conclusion : probably not going to buy the game at launch , it looked to be a potentially 5-10 hours game, with replayability ( as the director said there will be multiple game endings )
* The entire game most likely revolved going in the flow chart of Cutscene ->Chatting -> Multiple choice questions -> Puzzle solving -> Cutscene ...
* The story is engaging , the character design is very nice as well. Both of the Katherines Looked stunning. There is a sort of SMT atmosphere to the entire game ( but without the combat and exploration, or role playing part )
* now The Puzzle solving stage, which looked interesting at first, but involved moving around Square boxes with a given time limit , You clear a stage by climbing to the top of the box . Occasionally there will be something that happens, such as giant hand chasing you down, boxes collapsing down ... After awhile it gets boring . If this is what all the gameplay is about,I actually had more fun playing Tetris HD than this.
*This is by all means very identical to a visual novel , there will be no combat (as predicted) , Exploration is quite limited as well ( aside from the Multiple choice answers ), avoid buying the Japanese ver if you dont understand Japanese.

My conclusion : probably not going to buy the game at launch , it looked to be a potentially 5-10 hours game, with replayability ( as the director said there will be multiple game endings ) * The entire game most likely revolved going in the flow chart of Cutscene ->Chatting -> Multiple choice questions -> Puzzle solving -> Cutscene ...
* The story is engaging , the character design is very nice as well. Both of the Katherines Looked stunning. There is a sort of SMT atmosphere to the entire game ( but without the combat and exploration, or role playing part ) * now The Puzzle solving stage, which looked interesting at first, but involved moving around Square boxes with a given time limit , You clear a stage by climbing to the top of the box .
*the animation looks fantastic, the menu and game presentation is good. But some of the character model looks abit blocky when rendering in real time.. I guess Atlus is not so ready for the HD yet...
agree on those lol i hope Atlus localize this soon!
So apparently the demo's "easy" mode is basically "normal" mode in the final version, pretty much atleast.
Actually I find the puzzle climbing to be pretty intense, especially if it is on Hard mode. It's all about quick-second decissions, thinking ahead and being organized and calm at the same time.
Yea, agreed that this game will be about 5-8 hours long though.
Probably might not pick it up right now, but will see.. will see. I just love the presentation too much.
And luckily the game is mostly voice-overed, I can understand without trying to read (kanji major phail here). Most anime-maniacs who have watched animes for more than 5 years shouldn't have too much trouble either (unless you basically just read subs 99% of the time and don't listen).
honestly, very dissapointed bout the gameplay... hope this is just section 1..they r other more game play.... why the team don want come out persona 5 1st .... there r too little japanese style game in ps3 lah somemore yakuza 5 story spoiled, what next
Catherine's Rapunzel Minigame and Jukebox Jukebox to offers songs from Persona, Shin Megamitensei and Digital Devil Saga. Posted Feb 02, 2011 at 12:00, By Anoop Gantayat
Your Catherine official site (mine too!) was updated today with a closer look at two of the game's side offerings: Rapunzel and Jukebox. You'll be able to access these in the Stray Sheep bar, which serves as the setting for the game's adventure component.
Rapunzel is an arcade game which looks like a simple version of Catherine's action stages. You'll have to climb up a tower in aim of a princess, pushing and pulling blocks into place to form steps, and avoiding bats. The mini game offers 50 stages of play.
Jukebox is... a jukebox! By accessing this, you can change the music that plays in the bar. The jukebox will have music from Catherine and even other games. Screens show music for Persona 4, Persona 3, Persona Portable, Shin Megamitensei Nocturne, and Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner.
You'll find a videos of both of these components at the official site (under the Game System -> Stray Sheep area). I've also pasted YouTube versions here:
Famitsu cross review is out , Catherine is scoring 9/9/8/9 out of 40 making it a 35/40 game.
These are what the reviewer says :
PS3 Ver :
a)Intriguing and interesting story , complete with some erotic illustrations, The nightmare puzzle stage has simple rules to get hands on , traps designed within the stage adds to the atmosphere of finished product. The game was easy to play on the beginning, and becoming much harder later. Beginner would have problem solving the puzzle in the late game.
b)Fantastic presentation and Stunning game graphics ,the adventure aspect and the unique story makes the game very interesting . The puzzle solving part is somewhat nice , but is perhaps a little bit too difficult to deal with. (and would confuse you somehow )
c)Jaw dropping cinematic and Multiple story ending makes the game very satisfying to play. The 'ACTION' part of the game is actually a puzzle stage and is somewhat difficult to solve. It was ' easy to play , hard to master ' , but then it was designed so you can easily retry the stages again.
d) A well composed story , surrounded by Charming characters that makes you want to continue playing the game , the game presentation is amazing. The boxes climbing session could be challenging , but satisfying if you reach the top. Although there are options to adjust difficulties and items to use , but if the puzzle game could spare a little more helps would be nice.

The game isnt very well received among 2CH and the Chinese .
Most people are extremely frustrated by the puzzling levels, which according to them were repetitive and boring . Players are having troubles finishing the game even on EASY mode .
Complaints about Catherine being “too hardcore” have not fallen on deaf ears – Atlus promises a patch to make the game easier for the mewling weaklings they are saddled with as customers.
The game’s developers say they are preparing a patch to make the game easier, apologising as “the staff may have become too used to the game.”
Just why such matters never came up in the game’s QA testing stages is something of a mystery, particularly considering it has proven a near universal complaint about the game from everyone who bought it…

famitsu review cant be trusted one. as long as its made by big japanese company, sure high score. = =``` one i remembered clearly is FF13 39/40, IGN gamespot GT all award biggest disappointment...
Famitsu somehow tend to judge a game without playing through the whole game.
So their score is heavily based on 'Impression' . There are exception of course ( like MGS 4 which was release to them a month before release ) , but often they didnt get to finish the game by time the review is required to be published.

If you’re waiting for Atlus and Team Persona’s bizarre erotic horror-arcade puzzler Catherine to be localised, you may have to wait a little longer: Atlus’ US PR has told BeefJack, very apologetically, there are currently no plans for a North American release.
“Catherine is a Japan-only game and there are no plans for a NA release at this time. Sorry about that!” reads the statement.
Catherine has currently been doing very well for itself in Japan, comfortably beating Marvel vs Capcom 3 to the top of the all-formats chart, though it’s anyone’s guess how much of this was down to the scantily-clad ladies on the box.
I’m playing the import, and I can tell you it’s certainly a great game… though complaints from Japanese players about its difficulty are not exaggerating. Seriously, it makes Demon’s Souls look like a walk in the park. We’ll bring you a longer writeup on BeefJack just as soon as we can.
Hey, I must admit that the Japanese definitely have more creativity than others....you can even see that from their moves.... Can't wait to get hold of this one
ok time to put this game back on my 'list' then haha. i hope english version won't have excuses like "this and that doesn't go with western culture, and will be removed".

I hope they dont go all like ' oh western gamers like to hear voices in jap audio meh?' and then give crappy eng voices.

Atlus USA have just posted on Twitter that a demo for the upcoming nightmare-puzzler, Catherine, will be available on July 12. Look for the demo to hit PS3 on that date, which a week from today, before you start counting fingers.
The full release will come a few weeks later on July 26.

There will be no dual audio. It has been confirmed in Atlus US forum. They can't add in Japanese voices because they're retooling the animations to align with the English voices.
You will have to get the Jap version if you want Jap voices.

There is no Japanese audio, only English. We really, truly try to explore this option wherever possible. It just wasn’t something we could do for Catherine.
the review is 2 weeks early, and i was expecting this game to get about 7.0+- not that high.
game companies always send new games early to game reviewer (magazines or websites) so that they can review the game and help build up the hype to boost sales.
me here was expecting 8.0+, but well, it's ign and i don't really trust them, i think they're overrated good or bad, ady paid for pre-order so now only waiting for the game.
Theres a problem with Catherine audio, during animated scenes the audio plays in 2.0 stereo. In game, it is locked in 5.1 DD.
This means that, during animated scenes the audio becomes really loud if your speaker is 2.1, the scenes are loud. In gameplay, it becomes way too soft.
I don't know how Atlus actually overlooked this, or they just expect everyone to have a 5.1 setup at home.
Yeah the Japanese version has the same problem, ah well I hope there are something in the option menu to tackle this issue. May be getting mine tomorrow, can't wait
The puzzle game is fun to play and the story is very nice. it feels like you are also playing one of those dating sims because you get to make choices that affect the story.
Only problem i have with the game is the sound. Like Ben said earlier, if you don't have 5.1 sound, the movies are too loud and the game sound is soft. I hope Atlus will make a patch to fix this.

Sound problem, not only me have this issue huh.
The puzzle is challenging. And the techniques they teach was like wow, how am i going to apply that when i'm in the puzzle, panicking?
the audio issue bothers me a little bit. since i have plenty of other games to play, i think i'll put this on hold till atlus releases a patch.
great game tho! its so beautiful, and the 'feel' is definitely from the persona team.
theres a possibility theres not gonna be any patch.. the jap version has been out so long (having the same audio problem) but there is no patch for it.

I'm a little disappointed because I thought it would be like the Persona series (open-ended world, RPG gameplay). But this game, I must admit, is unique in it's own way. The puzzles are challenging!
I still wish they'd make it like Persona. Oh well. PERSONA 5 IS IN THE MAKING!

Finished the game! I got the Sleepless Nights trophy (normal Cheater ending). The ending is seriously very very funny LOL.
I only managed to help one other NPC (Justin the Reporter). I was unable to help Morgan, Daniel, Todd and Archie.. they all died before I got the trophy.
Didn't seem to manage to unlock all the liquor factoid trophies, too. xD

Exactly like mine except for the ending. Got the True Cheater instead. lol. It's just an extra epilogue after the Credits if it's a True Ending.
i just bought this game but it's in freakin JAPANESE!!
is this your first time buying ps3 games? like alhpa said, there is a description on the back of the box that tells you what language the game is supposed to be in.
