sometime is not about spoon feed..
i mean some ppl here already tired and lazy to explain over and over again and will choose to ignore the post...and the poster would think we maybe not helpful enough(but actually we are)

some answers already in FAQ but if still don't bother to read it, can't help it then..  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
I don't doubt that people here are mostly helpful and you did an excellent job putting the first page FAQ together. smile.gif But instead of ignoring repeated questions or just spoon feeding the answers over and over again, we need to direct them to either search the thread or refer to the first page FAQ. icon_rolleyes.gif

anyway not to use the adb way? cos i do not know how to do it...

There's an excellent tutorial on XDA forums on how to use adb. Try it. It isn't hard.

any idea how to push back the sms backup-ed using KIES back to the phone ?
*
KIES is evil - you shouldn't use it. smile.gif Just sync everything to the cloud. And do local backups of your SMS/MSS using the backup tools available in the Market.

aiks. any apps that can read sms from kies and then transfer it back to the phone?
*
I have not used Kies, but my guess is probably not. Is there a way to export your SMS out into a CSV, XML or something? You may have better luck then importing it back to your phone. smile.gif Find out and let us know!

quote from a forummer in XDA :

Kies cannot restore sms back to the phone, because it's a piece of Kies, as we all know.

Also, the sms in Kies are saved in .sme or .sml format or something that cannot be converted to anything else easily.

Your only distant hope, is to install PC Studio, also by Samsung... some have said that it might be able to restore those files. Good luck!

Next time, I recommend "SMS Backup and Restore", fantastic little app, free on the market.
*
Nice one. Thanks for sharing. smile.gif

Wasn't the mimocan lagfix a custom kernel for the SGS, supporting mounting of an external ext3 or ext4 partition on the micro-SD card? If I remember correctly, I applied this last time via the update.zip method (in recovery mode). Now not using any lagfix, so my memory could be hazy.
*
Actually, the kernel flashing was done thru a PDA file supplied by mimocan that you flashed using ODIN. rclxms.gif

Hey guys, anyone remember trillian? One of the first multi-IM apps that was pretty good until it became bloatware? Well, they've started a beta for their Android app. Get the goods here: Trillian for Android

Are you for real? You signed a business contract with full understanding of the terms and conditions. No one held a gun to your head. What makes you think that you have the right to break this contract without legal consequences? shakehead.gif

Guys
i still couldnt understand why maxis doesnt allow us to track the usage online like what they have for broadband..

Perhaps to take advantage of over usage! !
*
It's a technical limitation on their end because they are only able to tally up data/phone usage at the end of every billing cycle. I hardly think they'd want to risk their reputation and the ire of consumers simply by overcharging. Nevertheless, they do need to find a way to solve this.

Maybe Maxis should consider throttling data speeds once a subscriber reaches his/her monthly quota. From 3.5G down to GPRS speed.
*
From my (limited) understanding, Maxis has no way of knowing if a subscriber has exceeded his quota before the close of the billing cycle. If they had real time usage metering for each subscriber in place, they could then do any number of things including limiting data speeds as you suggested. smile.gif

Could be.. Also, a friend of mine just enjoyed her first RM1800 plus Celcom bill, because she went to Vietnam for a vacation and happily used her phone as a modem while roaming, assuming that Celcom would notify her or cap her data access.

Celcom did notify her, though, right after she arrived back in Penang - her line immediately got barred after an SMS from Celcom. Very inconvenient..
*
Ouch. That's nasty. Roaming data charges are killer, I usually disable my APN whenever I'm overseas as in I totally delete the APN/3G/MMS profile just in case. I'm paranoid that way. unsure.gif

No way of knowing?? No offence to you, but sorry can't buy that. The biggest telco in Malaysia employing tons of qualified engineers can't know how much data their customers use at any one time? We are not talking about a new technology where we can excuse some teething problems but this kind of complains has been going on for at least a couple of years already. If Digi and Celcom both can do it, what kind of excuse Maxis has?

Even with digi prepaid, all you have to do is key in a USSD code and you can even get your daily usage up to that point.
*
Believe what you will, man. This is what I've been told after speaking with some friends in Maxis. Don't shoot the messenger. smile.gif

This is real fun in changing the PDA, MODEM and CSC of which applying each of them from different region. I know CSC doesnt really matter, cos it is just the country specific code.

Will frequent change of the FW cause any problem to the fon?  tongue.gif

Just remember to recalibrate the battery monitor after a few flashes. Else your power reading will be off. Details on XDA (as usual). smile.gif

I did. Widgets are simple, but good enough for me. I'm using the Messaging, People, Calendar and Bookmarks widgets on 4 screens - each widget maximised to full screen.
*
Cool. Any noticeable slowdowns or general instabilities? I tried the Pure Messaging (or was it Pure Messenger?) widget on both ADW and LauncherPro and boy, was it a mess. Not only was it laggy, it rendered my other widgets unresponsive. Suck city. sad.gif

I just need to make sure that the Launcher Pro widgets are ok before buying. smile.gif

Noob.
Just bought my precious, precious SGS less than a week back.
I upgrade my Firmware to Froyo 2.2 and already rooted my phone - Last night.

Problems
1. Android market lags, and for some reason, the screen go blank just before u can install programs from the Market, so to proceed i have to press the power key everytime .... and i mean everytime.

2. Android market (again) and won't show some of the program i had installed previous to the new Froyo. eg - netscource, masjidnow, etc
- from the reading i find out that with froyo i cannot install "protected programs.

3. After the Froyo upgrade, everytime i start the phone, the TTS will say "New Message arrived" but no message whatsoever.

4. My phone cannot get to connect to 3g/HSDPA

That's for my problems for now, will be back if i find anymore problems

Reccommendations
1. All-I-need programs for my SGS with Froyo - rooted.

Wondering
1. Is the sleep/phone lock  function in ur SGS is just too fast, and anywy to "slow: it down.
*
Yea, the Froyo firmware builds are really not meant for primetime. They're quite a mess really. I wouldn't recommned anyone using it in its current state. Still, thanks for the report. I'm sure someone whose toying with the idea of flashing the Froyo fw will find the info you provided useful. smile.gif

Yeh.. USD8 + USD3 for shipping. It's tempting. Thinking of getting the black and transparent ones. My SGS been nekkid since I got it. Almost dropped it a few times already. sweat.gif

Finally finished reading/browsing the whole thread. Takes a week rclxub.gif . Anyway i've got two questions.

1. I don't think i'll ever root my hp. Not that adventurous. But i want to get paid apps. Is there any where? Eg. direct from developer sites or from appbrain?

2. Why do we need such high end micro sds? My class 2 sandisk seems to be fast enough.
*
*Some* developers accept payment outside of the market. LauncherPro for instance, can be bought through PayPal.

We don't need high end cards. I'm not sure why some of the others here hanker for class 4 and above cards. Just make sure you invest in a good brand (Sandisk or Panasonic and not Kingston/Transcend/Apacer) and you should be good to go.

I am using stock firmware atm. Seems that I hardly get email push to my SGS (gmail is working fine) for my corporate email. Setting everything is ok, whenever i need to check email, i have to open up my email apps only it will load up the emails. Plus, the FB apps izzit only notify me on msg, invitation, f-request only? how about comments on wall post and etc?
*
You can try K-9 mail app available on the market - it's a branch from the standard email application. It's loaded with options and people have been saying good things about it. I don't use the standard email app or K-9 enough to have an educated opinion. smile.gif

FB notifications are pretty flaky right now. And nowhere near the FB client for BB. It hardly (if ever) works for me. So you're not alone here.

Yeh, I've been following the bounty thread and it'll be great if those guys at XDA fix the lag problem ahead of samsung (shame on them!). Just wondering if anyone here intends to throw a few bucks into the bounty?
