Well, this morning I sent my car to Wearnes VW and I told him my issue...He call the Service advisor at VW Jalan ipoht. After that, I asked him that am I eligible to claim a new battery because the radio causing the battery leaking off the energy. He replied that I'm not be able to claim a new battery because the battery warranty is over and subject based on individual driving condition. I was like...WTH ? I told him...Is not about individual driving condition, is because of the radio issue...He never reply anything to me.From the VW 5-Year Warranty Terms and Condition» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Normally the Batteries being a consumable part is not cover by warranty. Please note the VW 5-year Warranty T&C above. However in Climacool case if the first SC at Jalan Ipoh is correct and that the radio drained his battery then its a car defect. if its proven car defect then the battery should be replaced.

One thing to note that the extended 5 year warranty is insured by Allianz (well mine is anyway) and this was what I was quoted when I checked with my SC in regards to changing the HU. Taken from the terms and conditions.

EXCLUSIONS
This Policy does not cover any loss, damage to liability or costs directly or indirectly caused by or contributed to or arising from or consequence of: -
1. To any parts and components not listed under the heading of Components and Parts Covered herein.
2. Whilst the Vehicle is used for racing, competitions, rallies, motor sporting events or of a purpose for which it is not licensed.
3. Any alterations or modifications not approved by the Manufacturer or the use of fitting of any parts or accessories that do not conform with the manufacturer’s specifications or modification of a component from the manufacturer’s specification.
This portion was specifically pointed out to me when I asked about the following items:
- Changing the in car entertainment system, speaker setups, amplifiers
- Changing air filter, exhaust systems, bodykits
- Adding in security functions such as GPS tracker/immobilizers
- changing to leather seats
Now note that my SA says its ok to change any of these stuff and they even offer to change it but SC says a whole different other thing when it comes to claims warranty. Best is to have a better relationship with the SC than the SA.
Some examples here.
