@hackwire

1. whey protein wont make you fat, unless u are talking bout mass gainers. whey protein are just supplements to supplement your protein quantitiy and as a quick replenish for post workout.

2. before setting a weight loss goal, you firstly need to look into alot of factors, personal lifestyle, daily consumption, types of exercise, etc etc etc, body fat level, height. When all these are clear, den you are only free to proceed with 100% success. This is a very personalized procedures as everyone has different metabolism and their body react differently.

*Feel free to pm me for advice and tips ( i wouldnt wan to spam this thread and get black listed.. >.> )

3. This is just to your preference, i experimented on the differences between using protein and without ( 4 months duration).

@wrigleyz , christapher7 and unchainedlullaby.

All very personalized schedules and diet types for each individuals. For example, your body might response well to carbs but not others. Through my experience, i have frens who are "allergic" to carbs, he get fat easily with carbs and not with fats while i have the opposite body reaction.

PM me and i will try my best to help you, advices and tips.
(was once a fatass too, so i understand your feelings.)

Hi everyone, just thought i can contribute something since i have already pmed someone, so i let it go here.

However, i will just list a few food that is very gud in weight loss program.

1. Green tea - drinking a glass of green after meal will really help as they are natural thermogenic whereby they increase ur metabolism by abit.
2. Eating a slice of apple 15min before meal will help curb ur appetite, more towards supression to due it fuel your blood glucose level directly thru the fructose metabolism pathway.
3. Coffee - helps to burn more fats by increasing release of fatty acid from your adipose tissue. and it also increase metabolism. * I heard they help to increase fat oxidation in men only from a recent article, i dunno whether is true or not, i will check out and let u guys know. ( exam period now )
4.Nuts - any nuts as it contain monounsaturated fats which help to burn fats . however portion must be taken care as calorie in vs calorie out..
5. Fish - they contain lots of omega 3 and also poly unsaturated fats which actually helps to burn fat. That is why research shows that people who consume fish oil have lower body fat level and people who in lots of fish are leaner ( eg ,japan)
you can read it more here - http://czhi90.blogspot.com/2011/09/fish-oil.html
6. Not all fruits help you to lose weight, some high glycemix fruits for example water are devastating with high glucose level and shud be avoided.
7. some vegetables are exceptionally good in helping you to lose the inch for example brocolli
8 oatmeal - because they are filling, so they allows you to eat way lesser calorie.
9. anything that has lots of fibre . This includes bread too, i just love to eat gardenia breakthru.=) taste awesome whole grain bread.be reminded, whole grain > whole meal > white bread.
10. Sesamin oil - Sesame seed contains what is called sesamin which acts t burn fats by directly acting on the PPAR oxidation receptor
11. Eat more protein as protein is more satieting and the body will need more energy to digest the protein down.If i not mistaken its 25% . Pardon me if i make mistake.
example of good source protein - chicken breast, tuna , whey protein ( protein powder ) .

Peanuts/beans good for losing weight?

If yes, recommend me a good and cheap ones  biggrin.gif

*
beans especially kidney beans and etc are low glycemic carbohydrate source. it wont spike ur insulin and therefore is very useful in weight loss.
Peanuts is also good, but just need to make sure u dont over do it.moderate is the key to success. overloading with peanut will give u the opposite effect.
almonds are good also ( pricy )

u can try shan dong pagoda groundnuts..LOL! but once i start, i cant stop.. =.=

i eat 2 half-boiled eggs for breakfast usually-those smaller sized ones called "chor sang dan" or first egg laid by the hen.that habit won't make me gain weight right?
and how do you calculate the calories burnt from doing weight machines and floor exercises?
*
nutriplus jumbo egg make not much different too..>.< , of course it wont.

and calories burnt during exercise , there 2 types, 1 is called the 1 u burn when u doing the xercise, another 1 is EPOC ( Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption ),
the more intense your exercise, the higher EPOC are burned.

For example, if u do a 20 min HIIT , u burn like 200-300 calories during exercise, u will burn anohter 200 calories in 24 hrs after your exercise.
if u do 1 hour of low intensity exercise, eg slow jog, u might burn 300-400, but ur epoc will be lower.

this is applicable in gym too, training in gym actually burns very little during workout, might be only 200-300 depends on sets, however the epoc will increase like maybe 200-300..

*i am not too sure bout the number of epoc,u can check it out here, for certain exercise,
http://www.scoobysworkshop.com/Afterburner...ts-Away-Fat.htm just a rough.

thanks,

best regards

Thanks!  smile.gif

Cardio almost everyday. I avoid fast food and consume more lean meat, fruits and veges. Also, oats in the morning and lotsa water (12 cups daily)!  laugh.gif

No more white rice for me too. Only brown rice. And, I never skip any meals!  biggrin.gif
It was tough for me. But over time, my stamina increased and doing workout is easier since then. 10 kg is quite an achievement for me!  doh.gif

Well, yeah I categorise it as stubborn fat. Well, I have been trying hard to maintain a caloric defecit because if I eat any less, I'll be eating sand. I've been following a strict diet (no McDs and such garbage, eat brown rice, no fried, steam chicken breasts etc and milk instead of milo) but have decreased my running due to my toe nails turning blue.

Hoping to pump back the kms when my toes are better.
*
err 70kgs?? wait, r u a male or female.. sry..sleep.gif i am kinda confused, how much calories are u going at?

Hi,  Started my weight loss journey on July 10th and so far lost 13kg. Here are my stats:  Height : 169cm Starting weight : 85kg Current weight : 72kg (Still just 1kg to reach healthy BMI of under 25, hopefully reach it next week :-) ) Weight goal : 63kg (BMI = 22 , recommended BMI for Asians and my fat level should be in single digit range by then, wanna see those ripped abs which is a bit visible now).  My exercise regime (I'm on 4 days work 4 days off shift):  » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «  I keep exercise and food diary using Myfitnesspal for android, I vary my diet with no specific pantang (e.g no carb etc) but tried to keep eating balanced and whole food. I do eat chocolate and maybe MCD sometimes(ala carte really cut the calories in MCD vs Value meal) but will usually still meet the following calorie goal per day.  » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «  Journey has been fun and I never felt more energetic and full of stamina before.

Nice progress there bro! congrats . however, i think ur calories are too low. and, i notice most of your workout are cardio ?

QUOTE(achilleus @ Oct 24 2011, 04:35 PM)
I used to do a lot of martial art a decade ago where i used to hv nice body so i know i have quite some muscle underneath all those fat.My body is medium-large now so my target is not much of muscle building but wanna lean smaller body. Pls correct me if my approach is wrong :-).I think the calorie is ok where it is above BMR and I try to mantain 500 cal under daily calorie need, I dont feel starving with those calorie lvl so i guess that is a good indication.
Im no body builder but what i know the rule is more protein less carb.

Yeah sometimes like once every two weeks. Its all about counting ur calories. In case of MCD i skip the fries and go for mineral water, diet coke or worst orange juice. KFC will get those chickens only skipping the wedges and mayo laden coleslaw while taking in the bun.
Kenny rogers is healthy choice for fast food if u get the correct side order. I would skip the muffin though.
*
i dunno y my post didn got through or something, however, your BMR always flactuate due to regulating hormones like thyroid and stuff, temperature and etc. so u cannot really get a exact BMR, and ya your 500 below daily is right, but it also depends on your body type. For example, those ectomorph, they mihgt even need 3k just to reduce weight at steady lvl.

QUOTE
i've been doing exercises almost daily..not very strenuous but it works my muscles alot..but i notice my waistline and arms sometimes, most times, seem to be bigger rather than shrinking.BTW i eat normally,no diet restrictions but just that i try to eat less rice

it actually more dependent on calorie in vs calorie out, 1 bowl of rice contain 200 calories, if u eat half a bowl, u taking in 100 cal, however, to satisfy ur hunger, u eat more "lauk-pauk" , it will even accumulate higher.

rice is not the main culprit in obesity, there's are time u need rice and etc.
nutrient timing i would call that. however, rice do reduce your insulin sensitivity which leads to obesity though.

doubt that she even have the amount of testrones for the growth smile.gif most of the time girls workout intensity is just sheeding off extra calories to burn some food they took in smile.gif

unless ur a conditioned atheletic else no where in dreams can get bulky too tongue.gif
*
i agree with you, from my experience, it very HARD to grow muscles tbh, even for guys, it long long time and dedication,
what about girls? i doubt they will get a huge muscles by just lifting.

for a girl, u will just tone up a little, and get a firmer hands, etc, and not sagging tricpes when old. whistling.gif
