As for now, Windows 7 based tablet still need to run on x86 processor, which is power consuming, and not efficient, not to mentioned the default UI is not finger friendly. You can actually see the benefits having Windows running on ARM devices: more broader market = more control = more income for them.

Windows 8 is expected to arrive somewhere late 2011 or early 2012. These are some new features you can expect:

• 3D support for movies and games (format still unknown).
• Microsoft own web apps store (to attract web developer who develop smartphone apps to “rock windows”).
• Better multimedia playback and recording (balance- using hardware acceleration to save battery or using CPU for better result).
• Task manager (link to action centre) – clear notification on which app using the most bandwith / app causing performance problem.
• Management tool app- to adjust or remove the cause of the problem.
• Superboot - to remove malware & rootkits (combine ‘safe mode + last known good option’).

Hope more features are added and are better than competitors.. after they’ fine-tuned’ windows 8..

Sure, with Windows 8, they'll extend their Windows dominance onto tablet and mobile devices running the ARM processors.
