QUOTE(barteria @ Feb 7 2011, 01:52 PM) im using the 11" with 128gb flash, 1.4GHz C2D with 3MB L2 cache and 2GB 1067MHz DDR3. for most cases yes, but if u need to squeeze as much performance as u can, then bootcamp is the way to goi think using vmware or parallel desktop is much better than bootcamp? no need to create a bootable usb etc. what u need is only the installer file (just copy from cd to usb in other mac with super drive) and windows/linux iso. got many tutorials in youtube just search for it. im using parallel desktop 6 in my MBA. working with multiple OS is easier this way, plus with the coherence mode made it much more easier |

QUOTE(macduck @ Feb 9 2011, 04:48 PM) thanks alot for the advice. not really once a year, i think around once in 8-10 months or so. but yeah i think u should wait for a refresh if it's not too urgent.does apple usually launch the mbp once a yr? so the current mbp i7 unit is only less than a year old? and to buy a custom-made unit, you can only purchase from apple store online right? the current one launched i think april 2010. the refresh was estimated to be in around jan-march but probably the issue with cougar point pushed it back a little u can order custom models from any apple reseller, but they still will have to order it. so better just cut off the middleman and order urself online edit: well probably the cougar point issue wont affect MBPs but who knows? if it doesn't then things should be good http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/02...sign_issue.html This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Feb 9 2011, 08:58 PM |

^ yes they'll still be called i3, i5 n i7 like normal. sandy bridge is just the codename.
well as long as apple launch it, u should be able to order one right away lah. normally no delays like iphones etc. dun worry too much about 'bad reviews from epicentre/machines', any shop sure got ppl complain one haha. even online store also got ppl complain. just buy from wherever u feel convenient about the dvd drive being removed, my gut says no because what are they going to replace the dvd drive with? another hdd will hurt battery life. SSD will jack the price up. about AMD, well we still dont know which GPU they will be using, so let's not judge yet. using AMD/ATI GPU is nothing new for macs, the imac n mac pro is currently using it. the 1st gen MBP n previous powerbooks had AMD/ATI GPU modified graphic cards? link? |

QUOTE(borneosailor @ Feb 11 2011, 02:52 AM) oh ok, thanx bro! well if u want to check how much RAM do u need, launch activity monitor, go to the Memory tab n look at page outs. if it's in the KB range then u dont need more RAM. not sure how to check in windows Added on February 11, 2011, 3:00 amyeah, my MBP come with 4GB RAM from factory. i wanna upgrade to 8GB since i saw SSD price is super expensive. well.... to be honest im not so sure if i need 8GB... but i do play games like modern warfare 2 and bioshock(both buy from Mac App Store) and Call of duty:black ops(run on bootcamp window 7)... when i play Black Ops on my MBP, it lags a bit sumtimes, so i think adding RAM will help? how much is 8GB DDR3 1066 RAM nowadays? |

QUOTE(mememe12 @ Feb 11 2011, 06:44 PM) what do u mean by in the KB range eh? i planning to upgrade ram too.. bcoz recently do quite a lot of video rendering.. KB range as in it's just a few kilobytes, not reaching even 1MB. if like that i think u dun need more RAMbut i wonder if i upgrade to 2x 4GB.. the 2 x 2GB in my current MBP can sell or not? or keep until it rots d? 2x2gb can sell but i imagine it's quite hard to find a buyer. a lot of laptops come with stock 2x2gb today. just try lah |
