So, I just put the new HDD into the casing then plug it in to my MBP to clone, then only install into the laptop right?
*
Yes that would be the best way smile.gif

Ok.. Thanks man.. Will get the HDD when I get back from Aus...
Also is it worth to get 8GB of RAM? Cause I multitask a lot but no hardcore software is used...
*
For RAM juz launch Activity Monitor and look at the RAM tab. If ur Page Out is high then u should upgrade. If no then no need

guys, just asking behalf my friend, izit possible to use macbook with power supply enabled without the battery attached?
*
which macbook? older ones yes

u cant take out the battery for the new ones. why? cuz you never need to take out the battery in the first place. even for the older models. tell ur friend to skip the "must take out battery when plugged in" thinking, we dont need to do that anymore.

also, say u're running on ac power w/o the battery, when u accidentally disconnect the charger or blackout, this will suddenly turn ur hard drive off. good way to spoil it

the macbook 13" late 07 or early 08.. but wont it reduce the life span?
*
short answer: no

long answer:
QUOTE
Note that for Apple portables with a removable battery, you should not run a MacBook or MacBook Pro on AC power with the battery removed - Apple strongly recommends against this for two reasons: first, the risk of lost data and damage to the hard disk directory structure if the MagSafe plug is accidentally disconnected, and second, the computer will reduce the CPU processor speed. The latter is due to the fact that the CPU will sometimes (for brief periods) require more power than the AC adapter can provide, and the additional power is drawn from the battery; the OS throttles back the CPU to avoid this situation.

all u need to know about batteries is right here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1764220

been keeping quite for the past few days. been busy with my mba which i received 2 days earlier...now currently typing this on the air...
First time on mac and im fitting rather nicely...however the number of quality software and windows equivalent out there is really disappointing...or maybe its just me where im still green on obtaining the appropriate software.
The only gripe i have is i may have  made a mistake in buying the 4g 64gb ssd...i should have go for the 128 gb model instead cause im using bootcamp...
*
U can always ask here for software recommendations. Juz tells us what do u want to do

Ya 64gb for a bootcamp machine is quite small tongue.gif

Guys... My magsafe charger is not working out of a sudden....
I bought my macbook pro in Aus... Where do I claim my warranty?

Also, If I partitioned my Hard disk and installed windows via bootcamp, can I still clone my hard disk and have everything the same?
*
u can claim ur warranty at any authorized apple reseller. ur MBP comes with an international warranty.

not sure about the partition thing

*
It means he has a 4gb stick n juz bought another one, totaling 8gb

Yes only got two slots. Take out the 2x2gb out n replace with 2x4gb lor

I've read somewhere that writing extensively on SSD will decrease its performance, and Mac OS X doesn't support TRIM function.
*
IINM that only affects older SSDs. Someone correct me if im wrong

Actually i dont get why it would slow down the performance. We write on RAM a lot and it doesnt slow down. Would it be the same thing?

Hi, I got my MBA for about a month and I think I am going wild about SSD. Do anybody think that I could replace my Window base system laptop with SSD? I could also do away with DVD drive so that my system would be much lighter. What is a better buy for SSD in the market?
*
Yes any laptop with a Sata hard drive can use SSD smile.gif abt ur dvd drive, uh, i dont think u can feel the weight difference anyway tongue.gif MBA is not light juz bcuz theres no dvd drive. Its light bcuz of that and the fact that they made it thinner to not accommodate the drive. Ur laptop is heavier bcuz of the extra size to fit in a dvd drive, not the dvd drive itself tongue.gif

Hey guys, just wondering if the i7 on the macbook pro is a quad core or still a dual core processor? I have to assume that the i5 is a dual core but not too sure about the i7 line-ups.
*
the i7 is dual core, and each core has 2 virtual cores

*
first of all, u dont need to double post. no one answered you because you didnt give enough information. maybe u can give us the exact error message? a photo even. it'll be a huge help. are you sure the screen turned 'blurry' not 'dark'?

u can claim warranty from any authorized apple reseller in the world. not sure about the classes. however, the videos here ( http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/ ) are pretty helpful. should cover everything you need to know smile.gif

wana ask wat's d different between normal macbook,vs macbook unibody, macbook pro...?
jz beside d specs which i can see to different...
does macbook pro hav ani special effect or button compare to d normal one...?
thx...
coz plan to buy a macbook recently...
thx...
*
here's a simple answer

macbook (the white colour one): plastic body easy to get dirty n scratches. no firewire (u probably dont need this anyway), no SD card reader, no battery charge indicator

macbook pro 13: about the same spec as macbook white but aluminium body looks nice, easier to keep clean. got SD card reader, firewire, keyboard backlight

macbook pro 15/17: apart from the obviously bigger screen, u get more powerful CPU and GPU

unibody is just a term referring to the construction of the laptop's body. all macbooks including macbook pros are 'unibody' now.

so which one should u buy? if on a budget i'd highly recommend the MBP 13. but the macbook isnt bad either smile.gif i just think the price difference is pretty much worth it

whoa.MBP13 inch isn't the same as MB.has additional 2GB and better graphics. With battery indicator.

p/s: my Macbook 2008 is the same performance as the new MBP 13 inch'
*
same proc, same hdd, same integrated GPU = same performance. yes one is 2gb and another is 4gb, but if one doesnt utilize a lot of ram then it does matter much smile.gif

what can i do to make my mac last longer?
or mac is a product that is supposed to be replaced in one or two years?

ohya..does mac becomes lag after using it for 2 or 3 years? (or all laptops tend to become lag?)
*
that's the good thing about macs. even if u dont do any defrag or maintenance stuff, it'll probably run fine for 2 or 3 years w/o lagging. worst case maybe ur hard drive spoil and u juz have to replace it. hard drives is pretty much the most prone to break component in a computer, no matter mac or windows, no matter desktop or laptop

And there is no 2.13GHz MacBook Air in the current lineup. So the top speed is 1.86GHz. 2.13Ghz MacBook Air, the previous gen, scores quite a lot lower in Geekbench due to Apple's CPU throttling.

erm yes there is a 2.13 Ghz in the current line up smile.gif CTO model. http://store.apple.com/my/configure/MC504Z...mco=MTk0MjI1NDQ

also im not sure if geekbench is a good indicator

i just bought my very first MacBook Pro 13" last night, spent close to 8 hours just fiddling with it.

coming from windows,it's a huge departure,IMO blush.gif

i'm unsure if it's been mentioned(searched, but no results appeared) but do check out
CODE
www.hiddenapp.com
it's a web based security app that helps you track a stolen Mac. it costs 20 USD,but until the 1st of January 2011,it's absolutely FOC.

so get it now before they start charging for the app again tongue.gif

i tried it last night, worked great.

im a little taken aback at the lack of software recommendations on the first post.
im not criticising or anything, but it would help mac noobs like myself if there was a list of recommended apps in the first post biggrin.gif

right now i've just installed the core basics sweat.gif vlc media player being one of them.
im still looking for a good downloader.
love IDM on windows, but unfortunately there's no mac alternative that i can find. sad.gif any recommendations? smile.gif
*
hiddenapp sounds great. maybe you can write us a short review? smile.gif

i have to agree about the lack of easy-to-find software recommendations. you can just ask here if u want smile.gif for a download manager, the best IMO is speed download. if u're a firefox user, downthemall works great. as for me, im satisfied with chrome's built in downloader tongue.gif
